    Re: Frost gets upgrade

I think that it needs to be noted that a lot of the changes made when SDSU jumped to D1 were made due to NCAA rules. For example, the basket supports are the same at every arena and there is a requirement that there is so much space on the end line (thus the seats got moved back). I know there are others that made for some less than ideal changes. This round of changes should help improve the atmosphere. I'm a little concerned about moving the students to the end but it will also put the cheerleaders in front of them again. That is positive. The great news is that interest in the programs are booming.

Most be different rules for different people. Maryland when then redid their arena I beleive it was Maryland, moved students closer to the court likes Duke students are. Duke is rather close to the court and If not mistake they still use hanging baskets, like frost use to have.

Alumni that become booster like to have a place to sit that is worth the money they paid for that seat. If you don't have those seats you don't sell those tickets. This is not an attempt to shortchange the students although some will see it that way (like goon). Students have to understand the reason the changes are being made. Fact is, there is a demand for season tickets and not enough quality seats for those requesting tickets. This is part of the solution.

I will only be here for one more year, but I'm not going to pretend to like this. I'll get over it eventually, obviously. But to explain this as anything other than the students getting the worst end of the deal is inaccurate.

I prefer to think of it as their end of the deal. I'm looking forward to better seats this coming year.

Its not the only solution. Putting chair back seats in the upper level allows for more comfortable seating. Even if it limits total number of seats available it puts a premium on those as quailty seats which alumni could also pay to sit in with out having to move the students. I am an alumni who likes to get good seats, but not inspite of the student experience. so at CAS, if we need more season ticket seats, do we move students from the last section they are in, say over to under the scoreboard and away side? I just dont think this option at Frost is the best SDSU can do. Same with my disapointment over the SF event center. SF could have done much better IMHO.

Finally, I would hope the admin did their homework to make sure most every game that lower seating will be full. If we give the students grieff for not attending games in the past, alumni better put up or shut up and most every game have that section sold out. nothing kills a home court adavantage better then moving students away to only have a half filled section with old guys who refuse to stand or cheer even if capable of doing so.

By having better seats are you going to be donating more to sdsu or buying more season tickets? having those as empty seats on the side of the court by guys who want better seats for 3 games a year who have season tickets is shortchanging students, even though some like Jackmd wont see it that way.

                  I'm extremely happy for you.

Don't get me wrong, I understand completely why this is happening. If I was in your position, I be thrilled. But I'm a student and my opinion is shaped by my role as a student who enjoys watching basketball. The students get worse seats and as a student that pisses me off. End of story.

The reality of life is sometimes difficult to accept and I don't expect any student fans to be happy about it. I know I would have been furious and I might have even organized a movement to protest the change. Heck, I would have been furious that student access was limited for the USD game this year and will be for FB as well.

Perspectives change, many factors come into play and feelings get hurt. Most every scenario in life works that way. I wish I didn't have to buy season tickets to assure that I'll have a seat when I want to attend games but at this point I do. I try to have butts in my seats when I can't be there but I can't always make that happen. Solution, get a ticket exchange started. Almost certainly more seats will be full on a game to game basis. Problem, that may result is fewer season tickets being sold upfront. Major issue? The almighty $$$$$$. It sucks and it may not seem fair but its reality.

If the almighty wingwang is most important to continue to grow the program, school etc, new funding is needed or old funding would need to be increased. Wouldn’t it behooves us to maybe sacrifice a little now in terms of season tickets available, in order to allow for more potential quality donors and ticket buyers in the future by allowing students to have decent seats for sporting events, and have a quality experience at SDSU? If Jackmd or I did not enjoy our time at SDSU as much as we both most likely did, would he be willing to purchase as many season tickets as he currently does? Would I have started getting season tickets a few years ago? Would sdsu have lost out on that potential of what we pay for in tickets and donations because they decided when we were in college or before we started, to limit the total over all experience of sporting events and such? I feel now a day’s it’s more important than ever because students are being asked to pay for more and more but in turn are usually getting less and less.
Maybe once it is completed and see how the new set up works, I might change my mind, but I feel that the students are getting a lesser deal while currently paying more to participate in school and sport activities.

Lets not forget that without the State of South Dakota, Donors who give to make SDSU better, Alumni who already paid their fees and are now paying for season tickets, and fans of SDSU who pay for season tickets that Frost wouldn't be what it is today. So while the current students aren't second class they are also not the be all and end all

By the way I agree with all of this. Like I said in my post above, I'd share your opinion if I was in your position. Glad to know that you are honest enough to admit that it would piss you off as a student.

It took students to be able to have a college and for it to grow. So for the most part they are. Not just current students but students over 125 years worth. The state couldnt support a college on its own with out student support, and the students would pay a fortune with out state support. So what comes first, students, or the alumni and donors? Apparently the donors are a priority over students which I think is wrong. And thats coming from a guy who is an alumni and a donor for as much as I can. Alumni paid their fees and had a good enough experience with SDSU to become a future donor. Is it not anymore important to focus on providing that quaility expereince and education for current and future students who will become future donors?

I think it is a good move overall. Student attendence is going to be driven by wins and losses along with promotion (which needs to be increased significantly). As others have said, having students on the ends of the court is nothing new. The extra revenue will help out in the long run and I feel the students will end up being just as happy with their seats by mid-season. There are always trade-offs, but I think this on will work out nicely.

On an unrelated note, I love the idea of having some type of ticket exchange website or program so that un-used season ticket seats can be put to use. More people may actually be willing to buy season tickets if they knew they had a reasonable shot at selling those for games which they can not attend. Single-game ticket buyers (like myself) could also have a chance to experience better seats once in a while and may end up progressing into season ticket holders because of it. Something to think about....

An exchange would only work if SDSU can resell those tix IMO, losing single game tickets and walk up sales would offset most of the new season tickets IMO if they were allowed to have a secondary market. If it incorporated allowing students to seats not accessed by season ticket holders, then I would be all for it.
