Prince is going to be a very nice player for us, but he is a freshman and makes bad decisions sometimes.
Your analysis of Prince is agreeable from my point of view. I recall one other player currently on the team who in his freshman year, did on occasion have that "deer in the headlights" look. I believe it was the Central Michigan game just before Christmas. His name of course would be none other than Nate Wolters. I think both Nate and Prince will do just fine and on senior night we can applaud both for their productive careers at SDSU. Prince will in time be a very good player.

I agree that Prince will be a great player.

Comparing him to Wolters is probably a bit premature though. Almost all freshman have good games and bad games. What sets them apart is what they do the rest of their careers.

So far I am impressed with Carlson, as well as Prince.

EDIT: It should also be noted that an increase in Prince's minutes don't automatically mean a reduction in Carlson's minutes, or vice versa. They have spent a lot of time on the court together while others have been resting or in foul trouble.

The best part of Prince's game is that he can muscle up and effectively guard bigger players. That means he can spell Griff and the Jacks don't lose anything defensively and rebounding-wise.

Griff will be replaced by two Griffs. Carlson & Prince both do a good job defending larger players, and that's beginning to look like an SDSU specialty (and an important one, given the program's profile & recruiting area).

I guess what I am trying to say is that Nate did not do everything right his Freshman year either. Who knows who will be the greatest player to come out of SDSU, Wolters seems to be a heavy favorite right now.

Not burnt out yet, he is the leader that you can not deny. I agree the recruits are starting to gather at SDSU and the good bb will continue into the future. We have come a long ways since 2005. Things did not look very bright back then. We lost to Morningside at Forst.

Horstman is going to be good. Of course that's just my opinion. But there's alot to like there.

I do agree that the future looks pretty bright... hopefully we can get some more top notch type recruits because of our current success.

I hope everyone is right about after Nate leaves. It is so hard to tell right now since he is playing 38 minutes a game. What scares me at this point is that no one seems to be able to create their own shot, although Prince seems to be the closest he does get a little out of control.

I had to go to work after the Buffalo game. I was leaving work and got to my car around midnight and turned on the radio to ESPN to catch up on all of the scores from Bracketbuster Saturday. Bob Valvano was hosting his show as we know from Brookings. The very first words I heard him say was South Dakota State. He went on to tell about how as a sports talk radio host all they talk about was players and schools in trouble and not doing things the right way. He mentioned that rarely do we ever speak of people or places that get it right. Thats when he brought up SDSU. Our cumulative GPA for all athletes is 3.23. He made a crack about everyone suspecting that they all majored in underwater basketweaving.......but our two most prevalent majors for our athletes are Biology and Engineering. He then went on to congratulate us on a great game, a great team and being a great host. I think we made a great impression on him.

I had the crappiest day ever at work on Saturday, I can't even tell you how stressed I was walking out that night. I had a huge smile on my face the rest of the way home. Morale of the story.....crappy day to be at work, but a great day to be a Jackrabbit!

Remember last year when we weren't going to be able to replace Sargent and Moss, and everything was going to fall apart this year?

Yeah. If this is how things fall apart, more of this, please.

Last time I looked, Nate was a junior. And, while I suppose he might get drafted this year, this would seem to be unlikely, so we'll get to worry about a post-Nate SDSU for twenty more dreadful, worry-filled months!

We've got at least five more games to win this year before even starting to worry about "how are we going to replace Griff's toughness???" let alone "how are we going to survive a <sob!> post-Nate world!?!"

Me, I'm just enjoying the ride this year. It's not exactly the same as the women's 32-3 year, but it's got some of the same vibe going, at times. And I suspect that--regardless of how far this team goes this year--next year's team slogan will be "Unfinished Business." I'm hoping that the unfinished business consists of something like a Sweet Sixteen run, not "just" making it to the NCAA tournament. But then, I dream big (and yeah, I guess I'm starting to get a bit greedy, given where this team is right now--I still think next year will be THE YEAR for SDSU. This year is just the appetizer. 2012-13 is the main course.)

                            You shut your filthy mouth!

I think the only way Nate gets drafted this year is if we make the sweet sixteen and he finishes the year averaging 20-5-5.

Pure speculation, but at this point I would be a little surprised if he doesn't declare for the draft this year to see what happens.

No problem, I opened myself up for responses about Prince=Wolters criticism, and who knows maybe NFL agents will flock to Frost 3 years from now to look at the Canadian. The kid does have a "no fear" element to him and that is is special.

+1I was just talking about this with another Jacks fan. We both agreed that this year is a pleasant surprise and that although a tournament championship would be great, but this year is more importantly about getting the groundwork in place for a dominating season next year.
