Sometimes I get a kick out of how some here seem to completely forget that this is entertainment. We talk about next season because our next game is days away and because doing so is actually fun (God forbid). Us message board nerds don't actually play the games. We're here for fun. It's actually ok if we overlook an opponent in anticpation for an upcoming game with a rival and it's ok if we look ahead with excitement to the coming year even though we are in the middle of a great year. It's entertainment folks - relax a little and enjoy it.

lol Nope, no looking ahead, we fans need to take these games one at a time.

yes. damn this the name ive been trying to think of.. after that texas game is when i fully realized that benson had no business in the nba. he lacked size and his energy towards the game was, to be honest, pathetic. thompson brought him into reality. on a basketball basis, the skyforce is a good home for him
it seems for the nba you have to have a perfect profile.. you gotta have a certain size, certain degree of skill, and certain energy towards the game.. some freak athletes can make up for a category by being "freakish" in another, but benson lacked size and the energy(or chi)
wolters, i predict, will pull it off.. 6'4 195 pg, skill is undeniable, and energy-wise the kid seems to be robotic (never gets tired)

First of all I wouldn't throw this season away, saying next year will be better. This years team is that good. The one thing about a team next year is the conference becomes easier (at least in theory). It obviously helps not having Oral Roberts in the conference. However NDSU will be better, SUU will be better and WIU will be better. I think the thing that was being mentioned in which I agree with is the Jacks are getting to the point where its not just Nate Wolters its a team, they are developing a program and with that you can't say when Nate is gone everything will fall down the toilet. I'm not looking forward to losing Nate, but looking at the team, looking at the young players, looking at the red shirts, looking at the recruits targeted I'm not dreading the day.

I believe SUU will be gone next year as well

The USPNU announcers really liked Wolters in nearly every way, but they did question his speed. Every superman has his kryptonite, I guess.

Ya but what offsets that is his feel for the game. He just knows when to attack and where to attack when driving to the basket and going for the rebounds. His basketball IQ and feel for the game more than makes up for that I believe

I would guess his 3 pt percentage could hold him back. Say if he were knocking down say 40 percent I dint think it would a problem. Its a little low imo for how good he really is. Maybe next year he shoots lights out though.

The best thing he could do would be to stick for one more year and really work on his 3 pt shooting. His speed and quickness will be a liability on the defensive end at the NBA level. While he may have a great feel for the game, if he can't consistently hit a three and they start sagging off so that he can't blow by people, his offensive game will be seriously limited at the pro-level. If you can't guard people you better be able to score and vice versa.

No one will argue that this is entertainment and fun and all that, but that's a red herring to what some took issue with: the assertion in this thread that this year is a prelude for THE big year next year. That's denying the joy and possiblity of this team in this moment and the reality that next year often does not proceed as advertised (ask the Super Bowl champ Packers, the defending NBA champ Miami Heat, and 2011 World Series winners, the Phillies). The point some of us were trying to make is there is a real possiblity that THIS is the special team we have been waiting so long for. Speculating on the future is fun and no one is saying not to. But to quote the late George Allen, "the future is now."

Personally I don't get how he is struggling this year. I have heard practice time but at the bracketbusters game the announcers said he was shooting at 1030pm the day before the game so I don't think its that anymore. He shot 41% last year. Also during shootaround he almost never misses from 3 and usually makes most of the shots during shootaround but the shots haven't been falling during the game. I think he should declare for the draft without an agent get some input, play against some of the top competion and come back if hes not going to be a first round pick. Can't hurt and it will help him know what you need to improve on right?

With out looking at the stats hid 3 pt shooting this year has to be the lowest of his career. Not sure when he has a good shot but they aren't falling. Last year first few game wasn't he shooting crazy like 70 percent.

Wolters will not even think about testing the draft waters this year.

Why not? It won't hurt him. Get his name out there more and play against some of the elite competition and find out what he needs to work on and where he stands against the rest of the competition. Unless you have first-hand info I don't get why he wouldnt.
