  • Re: ORU

I was a little worried when ORU simultaneously started pressing and playing zone defense. That earned them a few turnovers and really slowed the Jacks down but they adapted nicely. The amazing thing is that ORU did not manage to hold a lead for even 1-second of that game. I think the closest they got was when it was 2-0!

Frost is quickly becoming very hostile territory for visiting teams. A quick look at the scores shows that the average margin of victory at home has been 23 points. No too bad...

I think that maybe one player that played more than normal and hopefully will be in the rotation more is Marcus Heemstra. He only played 8 minuntes but had 6 points 2 assists and a steal. I hope he can find some more playing time before summit league to get him pollished up in case we have either of our starting forwards get into foul trouble.

Anyone who can objectively watch a replay of Grif's foul and say it was flagrant/intentional should probably give up watching basketball and become a fan of soccer.

I enjoyed reading the comments from a particular individual on the ORU board.

The grousing about the loss wasn't as amusing as the hectoring, lecturing, condescending tone adopted toward the Dakota schools.

Great win, no time to waste celebrating it, Nagy said as much post game. SUU is in town tomorrow, need to win out, get a top seed and sweep the Summit League tourney.
Agreed. I thought Pearson went up kind of awkwardly and even jumped too soon, might of ended up on the floor anyway. Either way,it wasn't a flagrant foul.

Is there a replay out there somewhere?

I enjoyed them saying that the XDSU's "goon it up" and look at basketball through a "hockey mindset."

I've never watched a full hockey match (game? skirmish?) in my entire life.

Reading their board makes me like ORU even less. Going into the game I had a lot of respect for their team, but watching 'Domo' and Pearson whine and bitch the entire time I lost a lot of that respect. Man the **** up and play better. And then a bunch of them whine about a flagrant foul that most didn't see. God I hope we play them again and destroy them again.

I will add that I do have respect for Sutton and the few ORU fans that were on here before and after the game. There were also a couple on their board that took the "well Sutton said it wasn't intentional so that's good enough for me" approach.

Still...I hope we play them again and play like that.

I haven't found one posted online yet, but I saw the play live (webstream) plus the following replays it wasn't even a boarderline call.

Agree. I was at Frost last night and saw it live. Woudn't mind seeing replays though.

I'm sure you must be talking about the fellow with the Dos Equis (sp) picture on his posts. If you look closely,I think you can see a tear-drop falling from his eye into the open bottle - sorry about the smack, but I couldn't resist.

How about giving me some love for my prediction? (Just kidding)

As to the comments about ORU fans. Everybody is going to stick up for their own players. If Coach Sutton says he is OK with the foul, then that is good enough for me. And several of us did come over and congratulate the Jacks last night. There is no sour grapes at all. It is too bad this series is ending just as a rivalry was developing.

Best of luck the rest of the way and hopefully SDSU and ORU clash in the tournament finals and we get a much better game.

I like how condescending their fans are as they are leaving the summit for a league that is less competitive, and after the thier coach said that adding the dakotas into the summit league has made it tougher t o win the summit league. Both Sutton and Kampe said that they can't compete with our fan base in thier much larger markets because of the other larger schools in thier areas. I think If they consistenly got thier student excited for the thier brand of basketball it will translate into allumni support. I also think if every programs atheletes volenteered in the community like ours did they would have more local support. I believe community service is part of lettering in south dakota state.

Shoot. Oakland's women's team did volunteer work in Sioux Falls during their last road trip out here, and several of their players started pen-pal friendships with SF 4th graders. It's done on these campuses.

The problem you've got--and probably always will have--is that commuter campuses have a lot of non-trad students. The exec taking MBA night courses, etc.

It's possible, in fact, I'd say it's almost a certainty that Oakland, UMKC, IPFW and IUPUI all have fewer students living on campus than SDSU, NDSU and even USD. That really crimps your support because your alums don't feel as attached to the campus and campus activities.

Well the Southland understands the nuances and all the subtle shades of basketball...duh! Evidently our team is just a bunch of goons who couldn't make the Hockey team. Their board is clearly on meltdown mode. I've read enough that I might change my mind about missing them when they are gone.......but then I think WWJD? (sorry I just couldn't f#$cking resist, I know I have a problem).
