Re: So, evidently Stu is still bitter...

Kampe is a good coach and a decent guy. He demands a ton out of his players and gets it too. There's no reason to hate him.

There are some coaches who might be different but I like Saul Phillips (please don't hate me), Dane Fife, (he's brutally honest and actually came to the presser after getting pounded by SDSU, unlike Hunter), Matt Brown (UMKC, a big picture guy).

Saul Phillips is a classy guy, I am with you there, in fact all the coaches including AJ and Nagy have a tough job and they are all out to win the conference. They are doing their job, and how they do it sometimes leaves fans questioning their character and their mannerisms. We are all kind of wierd in the final analysis. Maybe thats why we have the Demotivational Thread.

I missed Stu's breathtakingly offensive reference to Hugh Hefner. Some columnists get fired for writing something that stupidly vulgar.

We are 3 years into the qualification and despite a very tough road through transition are in the upper echelon of the conference. OU Coach Kampe pointed out in his press conference that Oakland didn't win a game in the tourney the first three years of their eligiblity. Are we ready to compete with OU this year...frankly no. And neither were ORU (who got beat just as soundly in the championship game as our semi-final loss), IUPUI (I know they go their one win, but couldn't get past ORU in their semi-final), IPFW, UMKC and all the rest of the league. There are a lot of other positives that offset the guys reasoning, but he won't look at any of it. Being "brutally critical" is his style and he couldn't write his anit-SDSU men's team, anti-Nagy coaching, during the season as we put through our best of the transition. Is it easier to recruit for a team with 5 appearances in the Big Dance over the last seven years, that it is for one is working up to its first?Did he mention that two freshmen and a sophomore for SDSU put up 63 points against the conference champions as a possible bright spot for the future.
Do you think he was a help during out move to Division 1 -- while we wouldn't even be playing a national qualification tournament in Sioux Falls if we hadn't made the move? OK, end of rant. Nothing changes the fact that he is just a jerk...period.
My friend, I am not denying the jerkness in the column, but we did not seem to have a lot of beef on the inside this year or prior years , and if he was attacking that part of the program, I would give him rep pts if he had posted that rag of a column on this site. That in my opinion is why we have been a mismatch with Oakland and others. Dykstra is one guy, and a good one at that and will only get better, but for him to battle inside for 40minutes all by himself is asking too much of anyone. Plus Dykstra has an unique skill of outside shooting. I think we need to make some trades with NDSU, some of our guards for some of their inside big guys. In my rudimentry thoughts, I do agree that we are not their yet. We need to step up the recruiting and we can always get better.

I did get one answer to why Coach Nagy was not present for the TV-Stu show, and that was he was on the road recruiting, which is a very encouraging. I think Austin Hansen did a good job filling in for Coach.

But once again, i'm a masochist, and i just can't let that article go. I know the mantra "don't let stu rent space" but i need to do this for myself. I'm going to break this thing down piece by piece and point out why it is ****ing trash. If you want to stop reading now, i understand. I apologize for the amount of hate.

            And we're off:

Hell of a start. Hell.of.a.start. As a journalist, it's important to capture the attention of the readers right away. What's going bad for sdsu mbb? Everything! We are ****ed people! Disband the whole ****ing program!

Never mind the fact that other than nate, the two best players were both freshman. Maybe stu missed that. Or maybe he only knows the nate's name because tv wrote an article about it. I bet stu felt smart mentioning the name of a player that plays for sdsu. Only one he knew (don't worry that he just read about him this week) though, but that doesn't matter.

Something tells me that since it had to be said was the only reason stu wrote it. If he could have, he would have explained to his reader-ship (this message board and any of his family that still claim him. So this message board, basically) that sdsu lost to lincoln high school's girl c team. This just in: Oakland is good.

You see? It's not that simple. It's not that oakland is good. It's that sdsu is bad!

I'm not denying that we have a ways to go. I'm not happy with simply making the second round of the sl tournament every year. I want to go to a ncaa tournament. But i will be shocked if stu watched the sdsu men play before this tournament. Anyone (that knows what they are talking about - sorry stu) that has watched this team during the past three years can see the obvious improvements made by this years team. We beat iowa. Played with uofm. Kicked the **** out of iupui.

Other side of the coin: Oakland is really ****ing good! Did stu even watch the game? Those guys are stacked. Stu probably left thinking it was just like another gpac game. Good god that team is awesome.

            Stu wihitney mad libs

[something slightly positive] but [something slightly negative]. [something that overplays the significance of the negative thing]. [cherry picked stat that doesn't actually have anything to do with anything]

clint and dale who played horrendously against oakland. I'm going to miss watching those guys play and they were both awesome and we probably don't beat ipfw without dlae, but they both played like **** against oakland while the young kids played like seniors. But don't forget, we have nothing to look forward to!

Once again: Oakland is ****ing awesome. They are the epitome of what a summit league team should be. This year's version was the best version of all of those teams.

What a beautiful sentence. How big of an assbag does one need to be to turn "starting to get there" into a negative? What does this dumb**** want? Nagy has made progress with the team every year and we are starting to see results. Not good enough for stu though! Not spirited enough! Go wander blindfolded onto 41st street.

Ah. If only the jacks understood the potential of what this game meant! Didn't anyone tell them that this game was important?! Obviously the only reason oakland won is because they understood better than the jacks.

This is the **** that passes for journalism these days?

"evidence to the contrary" - what evidence, stu? I have english professors that would take tons of points off for just putting a statement like that in a paper without mentioning what that evidence is. And i enjoy how stu knew better than the rest of us. Of course he did.

Hilarious. A hugh hefner joke. Timely. Also implies that it's a bad thing to be hugh hefner. Yeah, that would be terrible.

            What ****ing terrible sentence.

Beautiful. Points out how terrible those first years were, points out progress, but yet all of that progress is not very much and it is not worth anything.

Only ray of hope that sdsu ever had was in 2009. And it was so brief. That was it. No other hope. Not the fact that the record and talent has increased steadily. Nope - that is not a ray of hope.

Also: A williams and ree joke? You know it's a good reference when anyone under 40 has to google it. What an awful writer.

Won't argue the soft defensively argument. I've made it myself. But the prime-time players part? What does that even mean?

I bet he patted himself on the back for 10 solid minutes after coming up with that zinger. Good one, stu.

Holy ****! You're telling me that oakland didn't make the sweet 16 every year after they transitioned. Shocked.

Huh? What does the nate wolters part of that sentence have to do with the second part? That is a brutal piece of writing.

"the jacks found a good player, but shouldn't they try to play more defense?" what the **** are you trying to say!? Why the but? How are those things related????? Jesus. Anyone that works for the argus leader: I will write better **** than this for 1/3 of what he makes. And my face looks better on the by-line!

Sticking to the theme of this post, it's fair to ask if stu whitney will ever become a competent journalist.

The answer? Not a ****ing chance in hell.

To anyone that read this to the end: You must be extremely bored.

            that.

            Was.

            Awesome!!!

If he would have posted that on this site, we all should have berated him for pointing out the obvious. To say that we HAVE to have a 5 to vie for a league championship may be a little short-sighted. This team wasn't destroyed by a true big man. The problems that we had were that Griff is playing the #4 and that we usually got abused by that player.

I think that next year this team can move griff to that #2 SG that Clint was, and then insert a guy like White in the #3 spot that gives us a little more size.

Granted, in a perfect world we get that true center and move Jordan to the 3 or 4, but all is not lost if we don't get that player.

Wouldn't it be great to see SDSU "lose" Stu's application for press credentials to Jackrabbit games next year?

Re: So, evidently Stu is still bitter...

                I have a few questions

                1. What do you want him to write. The jacks haven't done anything at the d1 level thus far in mens hoops. The facts are the jacks finished 5th in the conference this year and got blown out in 2 out of their 3 last games. This has been sdsu's best year so far in d1 and they finished 5th in the conference. I think he is right on, but he just isn't a cheerleader like tv. Sometimes the truth hurts.

                2. I don't understand how some on this board are content with the latest loss to oakland. Some stating how many points wolters, white, and dyksrra scored. The problem is they forgot that they have to play defense.

                3. You get this kind of article when you have a coach who was successful at the d2 level, and thus far, hasn't been a good d1 coach.

                4. The advantage ndsu has is we were an average d2 team and we overachieved in the 1st year of d1 ball. We have some slack because we did make the dance and the media will lay off us for a couple of years. If we keep finishing in the middle to bottom of the conference I'm sure the forum will have an article like stu's (wait, no we won't because mcfeely doesn't write for the forum anymore)

Re: So, evidently Stu is still bitter...

I think Stu must idolize Pat Reusse of the Star-Trib. Most columns they right are so negative that they leave you shaking your heads, but about once a month they write something really good like Stu's piece today about AJ. Makes you wonder why they don't write like that more often.

I think what we would like is a little more balance - basically saying that the only good part of the program is that Nate is a sophomore is bad writing. No one is saying the program doesn't need to get better, but there was definitely a less "jerky" way to do it.

Yes Stu as usual was hoping for reaction form SDSU fans and as you can see he got it. He must be the biggest renter of space in SDSU fans minds in the whole five state area. McFeely in my opinion is no where the Jerk that Stu is. Maybe its because I agree with his politics, but yeah he did get into the Bison fans minds and rented a whole bunch of space while at the Fargo Forum.

You gotta love the passion brought out in each Rabbit fan after the tabloid piece that Stu wrote. Our ObsessedRabbit did an outstanding impersonation of Chevy Chase in response to Stu's "years subscription to the jelly of the month club" article.

I would just love to quote Clark Griswald's response when reading Stu-pid's commentary:

"If this isn't the biggest bag over the head, punch in the face I ever.....,I want to borrow him from his happy holiday slumber on melody lane with all the other rich people and I want him right here. With a big ribbon on his head. And I want to look him straight in the eye and I want to tell him what a cheap, lying, no-good, rotten, four-flushing, low-life, snake licking, dirt-eating, inbred, overstuffed, ignorant, blood sucking, dog kissing, brainless, d#%*less, hopeless, heartless, fat*ss, bug eyed, stiff legged, spotty-lipped, worm headed, sack of monkey sh$t he is!
Hallelujah, Holy Sh$t! Where's the Tylenol?"

It's this passion for our program that has elevated it, and is pushing it to the next level that we all want it to be. After all, if we all followed Stu's advice, we would be following Centenary out of D1 - instead of emulating what Oakland is doing!
