“We knew that it was going to be a tough one,” Fife said. “We certainly do not match up with South Dakota State. It's tough for us to beat that team. It's always going to be tough for us to beat that team as far as this year is concerned.”

Fife sounds sick of playing the Jackrabbits.

      I like how you think.

In the past it would have been a very long shot for the Summit to get two teams in. 99% chance no, especially in men's bb. With the expanded field...maybe. Still a long shot, IMO.

Am I nuts to think I would still rather see UMKC in the first round?

Tough to beat a team 3 times in one year, that's for sure. Although I like our chances!!

Alright, time to resurrect this. I purposely didn't post 3 for 3 after the IPFW win, hoping I'd be wrong about the Oakland loss.

Well, 4 for 4, now we've got to, please Father in heaven, we've got to make it 5 for 5. Please! Please! I can't take another loss to NDSU!

If we beat NDSU, and SUU picks up a win next weekend, who finishes in 8th place?

I think it would depend on who finishes in second place? As SUU has beat IUPUI, and NDSU beat ORU.

There's no doubt we have the talent to beat NDSU...on the road, even. I think it's been all mental for at least the last season. And that's just something that needs to be pushed through, plain and simple.

On another note, regardless of what happens in Fargo, what's your take on the season if we lose in the first round of the conference tournament? We shouldn't, but we have inconsistencies...and it could happen. Should it, I don't think I could call this season a success.

                  Re: Stretch Run

Well by my brief research, if/when UMKC loses to Oakland Thursday the Jacks will play in the 4/5 game regardless of the Bison game outcome.

At this point, the 2/3 seeds are out of reach because of the sweep by ORU and IUPUI's win against Oakland. A loss to NDSU and 2 wins by the 'Roos puts the Jacks in the 6 seed.

Still look at the fact NDSU is 2-11 on the road. One win against Centenary and one against someone else. And the loss to UMKC where the Jacks couldn't hit water if they jumped out of a boat. Win those 2 games and a 2 seed is easily in reach.

Whatever. Go beat the Bison this weekend and get ready to make a 3 game run regardless of what seed we are.

I still maintain that the loss to begin the conference season was more to do with the Jacks being young. Dykstra is a completely different player then he was then, and this a different Jackrabbit team.

I would think that they should be able to beat the Bison by high-single or low-double digits.

I don't think there is anyway we aren't in the 4/5 game at this point. Very likely that we will play IPFW and I agree with propar, it is not easy to beat a team 3 times in a season.

That said, you play the game on the court that night and the better team has to win to advance.

Absolutely correct. You have to love the fire and passion this team is playing with and the fact that we have a point guard that keeps things under control will really be the difference. I will be there Friday night and will be really disappointed if we don't not only win but clearly demonstrate that we are a much better team than the Bison.

How much do you think their point guard is looking forward to getting torched for big points again by Wolters? He's just getting over the third degree burns from the first matchup. He may phone in sick.

Outside of Oakland, SDSU is the one team that nobody wants to play in Sioux Falls. Offensively the Jacks are probably the best in the conference and can literally shoot people of the court. Defensively they have improved a bunch. That crowd better be a factor as well. Just sayin. Better hope your seats aren't behind me, I will be up a bunch!

Is this tournament going to be a blast or what?

The team's points per possession mark has barely fluctuated since the second or third week of conference play. Compliments to this Griz fan for these in-depth assessments.

Bears out that Jacks, on paper are the #2 team in the Summit, and that Jacks are trending upward as they jell.

Tourney should be exciting, and a NDSU win VERY satisfying.

Thanks for posting the link!! The possession-based statistics tell a very interesting story about the Jacks this year. Now it's time for the team to show that the stats don't lie by beating NDSU!

                                Re: Stretch Run

So it appears everything is set except for the slight possibility NDSU drops to the #8 seed. Slight possibility due to So. Utah's chances of beating Oakland, not SDSU's chances of beating NDSU.

Jacks to play IPFW in the 4/5 game. IPFW can't be jumped by UMKC even if the 'Roos beat them Saturday because IPFW has beat Oral Roberts twice.

IMO the Jacks couldn't lose on drawing either IPFW or UMKC. The 'Dons really seems to be slumping at the end of the year.

Sunday night at the Summit. Time to avenge the first round loss last year and give them a 3rd beatdown of the year.
