I was thinking the same thing a while back. Fans feed off and take on characteristics of the coach and how he/she is acting. It would help if he got excited and gave a fist pump or whatever. Maybe jumped up with some excitement. It would help the team out as well.
Haha it's hilarious. The last couple games we've been sitting behind the bench and it's so funny how upset he gets and how he never appears happy. Especially the IUPUI game. We went on that huge run and he kept shaking his head. But then after the game you listen to the interview with the radio guys and he couldn't be happier. Me and my roommate joke that we could win the SL tournament and be up 30 on a 1 seed with 4 min left again and Nagy would still get mad if someone forced a bad shot early in the shot clock

It's just how he manages the team during the game. After the game (at least the last couple) he is pretty congratulatory and proud.

I'm a Nagy supporter and always have been. I must have missed the memo on the "too emotional" discussion earlier in the season so I'm not sure about that. I was just saying that I agreed that sometimes fans will follow with how a coach acts. If he's showing excitement in that SDSU needs a big stop on defense, the crowd may stand up and cheer or feel the urgency in the team.

However, I get your point in that if the crowd is lazy then it's a lazy crowd, but I think the coach can help.
I wasn't singling you out per se, just quoting your post. Sorry if you took offense..

I just don't see how the crowd is affected by the coach. AJ is one of the most laid back coaches, and yet when the women were winning the crowd had no problem getting into games. We have all discussed the less than stellar ability of Jackrabbit crowds to cheer be it football or basketball.

The culture of fans here needs to change, but I have no clue how that happens.

        I'm done.
Looking back at my post from last night, I realize it was probably a bit harsh, and it appears I've pushed a button, for that I apologize, Slosho.

Honestly, any other time I wouldn't have given a pre-recorded cheer a thought, but it was bad timing in that Jacks #1 Fan had pointed out that the cheer needed to be sped up and was looking to last nights game to see if it would happen.

Let me re-word my previous post:

The cheer leaders had to have been there, at least the one senior was to be recognized, so I'm curious as to why they didn't cheer at the last home game.

How about more goofy student stunts during timeouts?

Look at how excited the crowd got when students (finally) hit their free throws on Saturday and Monday. There are a lot more, and more elaborate, goofy student stunts that could be put together. Those are the kinds of promotions that appeal to just about everybody and can be a lot of fun to watch.
          Holy nutmeg!

Back when I was in college one of my good friends was a SDSU cheerleader. I remember asking him why they weren't at every home game and he never really gave me an answer.

IMO, the pep band and the cheerleaders should be at every game. If you want to be in either organization, you should realize that you may have to miss part of your Christmas and Spring breaks. Not having them there makes the even seem even more "dead."

              Re: Crowd

There are ways to get the crowd fired up by using recorded music. I was watching a TV game (Marquette if I remember correctly) and they played the old "Shout" song from the Animal House movie during a timeout and everyone was standing and the arena was rocking. Some of the newer recorded music that was played between games on Saturday only made me want to cover my ears.

And now the women are mediocre and so is the crowd...

IMO, you can have all the artificial stimulants for noise in the world (cheerleaders, videos, t-shirt giveaways, etc), but there really is no substitute for winning.

The Cameron Crazies weren't quite so crazy when duke was mediocre in 94-96. And they're the best in the business.

                We're getting there.

I agree 100%. During men's games, I get the feeling that the crowd is waiting for the "big" play to cheer (i.e Moss Dunk) and kind of take the rest of the game for granted.

Just so my friends (and enemies as well, I guess) will know, my choice of the word "grabbed" was ill advised (it was a her, BTW), and I am still on the sideline and looking forward to the Summit tournament. I counseled again with the cheerleaders on Monday night, but they were few in numbers and never did do the cadence. Since that was probably their last chance, I'll have to file away my sage advice (?) for next year.

P.S. Nidaros is right on this one. Roy was an SDSU cheerleader and a great one. Still has the spirit!

Has anyone on here ever been to a Minnesota Wild game recently? If you have you know what I'm talking about. They have GREAT videos during breaks. If anyone at SDSU reads this, check them out. They're a lot like the ones SDSU plays not but with a ton more flavor. I tried to look it up on youtube but couldn't find anything. It was my first Wild game but they were really cool.

As per a previous post on this thread that I wrote I wish to apologize if I offended anyone by it. It was meant to be tongue in cheek and not offend but I believe it may have done just that. I believe it could have been written diffferent now that I have reread it and deleted it. Again to those who took offense I am truely sorry for that.

I've been following this thread and didn't notice. You're good.

I beat up on Sturgis Jeff this morning in a note that accompanied my negative points. One of those days when I should have stayed away from the board. I failed to catch his humor that he intended in his board post. I will give him some good points back down the road. If Senator Bob Dole can be part of Viagra/Pepsi commericals, there is now reason to be offended as I was this morning. Sorry Jeff.

I think I am actually starting to respect this board more and more. You can be critical of your fans and crowd involvement and so forth the the discussion stays on track. I do the same thing on the Yotes board and practically get run off the board. I am going to have to be a little nicer to the Jacks fans because at least in your game theads you have more than zero posts unlike many of the Coyote game threads. It's a lost cause trying to get any normal discussion going on. If you are having trouble with crowd enthusiasm your not having a one-tenth of the problem that USD fans have right now, that is if there are actually any of them that care about basketball.
