Sorry if this has been posted, already but does anyone else think that ROTC needs some training in traffic control after the games??
The last two weeks have been ugly. The first two home games, not so much and the attendance hasn't been that much of a disparity. A lot of people left throughout the first two games because they were truly lopsided games, but even for the Bison game when a lot of people left early it was not good.
I can't remember where I saw this yesterday (it may have been on TV's game blog) and this could get ugly on a non-smack thread, but I can't let it go.
Somebody asked who the better unit was, SDSU's defense or USD's offense. Are you freekin' kidding me?
I did have a nice talk with an alum from Udot today. He was full of comliments for us and said if we played them this year, it would be like the UNI game. He said they are not ready for this level of FB yet. He even has a son playing for them. I thanked him for his honesty and related the stories of what we went through.
As soon as I get home tonight, I am drafting my e-mail to the Yankton P & D for their lousy coverage of the SDSU/UNI game. A 2" fine print AP teaser on the last page of the sports is all it got. Got some info from Alumni office and hope to cool down before sending that off tonight.
USD has a very good offense, mainly because Shepard is a talented QB.
But you're right, that kind of question is just pointless.
After watching Shep this year, he's really all alone. And because of that, he tries to do too much. A couple times the play would break down and he would have pressure and he would make the first guy miss, and then tuck and run. And this is ok, but he did this a couple times on 3rd and long when there was no chance of making the first. He would make the first guy miss and instead of scrambling to buy more time and see if someone can break open, he would put his head down and run. He is super talented, but I really thought his decision making was suspect.

Well, I don't get to sit in Mom's basement and watch sports all day
UNI's radio play-by-play guy does a daily afternoon sports talk show in the Cedar Falls-Waterloo area. Today he played back Mark Farley's post-game interview that aired on the Panther network Saturday and, wow, no credit given to the Jacks there either. Nothing they did caused the Panthers to play the way they did. After about 10 minutes he did admit the Jackrabbits surprised him with the amount of passing they did and even conceded that if they passed that much they must have thought they could be successful doing so against the UNI defense. The field was bad and took away from UNI's quickness. SDSU "recruits for the kind of field they have and that's why they won." He couldn't understand why Grace played as poorly as he did. (Could it have been the SDSU defense?)
They also had James Ruffin on and, to his credit, he said thaat while they held Minett down for most of the game "he came up with a big play at a big time in the game." He said that long run in the 4th quarter "killed" them. He also said the field was muddy and slippery but that both teams had to play on the same field.
I waled across the field after the game. It probably looks better than it really is. But it wasn't horrible. It was just soft with a lot of wear. It wasn't completely tore up, though.
Watching the UNI coach after the game, you could tell he was NOT a happy man.
Grumbling along and embracing my role. If I didn't care, I wouldn't care. Go Jacks!
I got a better appreciation of Coach Farley from this video. When you lose a game you feel you should have won, I can appreciate being as honest as he was and did not complain about other things. The game difference being Obrien is interesting as I wonder would Crawford had made those plays or would he have made other plays, or would Crawford had better luck at punching in some of thsoe goal stands. Several questions which do not have answers..a win is a win...
I personally felt our field conditions slowed the guys down who are maybe a step or two quicker on turf. Maybe replacing grass with turf is one project that could wait if its a choice between turf and another project( you name it.)
