(That's unrelated to just about anything. I just like that they play that clip right before the game.)
Great clip. Just had to go to Youtube and play it. Love that when it played before the game.

I got a question for all the referees out there.

On 3rd down of the last time we had the ball O'Brien dropped back and dropped to the ground. One referee threw a flag and signaled false start against the Jacks. UNI was allowed to decline the penalty and take the result of the play. I thought that a false start was a dead play, mark off 5 yards and play the down over. When did it become a declinable call?

What does bother me about SIU is the fact that Dale Lennon and Coach Stig are very good friends since they both coached together at Northern State University aka Aberdeen Normal, and Lennon does not let the friendship or any knowledge he has of coaching style of Stig go by the wayside. Seems like Lennon has in the past been able to come out smelling like a rose. There was last years win in Carbondale, and also a last play win when he was at UND and SDSU lost. I want to say it was a Beef Bowl game we had won until the last series. I think in both games Lennon team had lucky breaks, but this time around I hope Lennon gets beat bad. He seems to be a class guy, but very competitive and very determined to win. So even with the QB out, we will have a full plate with SIU. I think Youngstown is going to give us a game and that one must be 1-0 and then we can move on and think about beating SIU. Gophers too far down the road.

Good point. Lennon is a good coach and SIU is a good team. So was Iowa Normal. It is tough when two coaches know each other well. That to me means State will have to come out and execute well, no mistakes.

I also think SIU will have more respect for State coming into the game. Could make it harder for the Jacks. Another reason State will need to execute well.

But first Youngstown to go 1-0.

Radio guys, I believe, said it was a procedural penalty--not enough men on the line of scrimmage.

Just to let those who aren't aware, Southern Illinois lost their starting for the year in this week's game against Youngstown, so I guess we'll have to see if they have a "TOB" on the bench or not.

Jacks will have trouble with SIU because SIU is a good football team. First we need to go 1-0 this week at Youngstown.

Can you imagine the absolute joy that AD Justin Sell felt after the Jacks took it to UNI? He had to have had one of those 4 hour medical erections after that game. He may still be walking on air and not sleeping. Good for him and the entire Jackrabbit football program.

In the second half, there was a series or two when Jimmy Rodgers was not in. I was going to look who replaced him for that short time, but he was back in before I had a chance. Did anyone note who came in that series and why?

Pretty sure there has been some sort of rotation among the linebackers with Isaiah Jackson coming in and spelling one of the starters- Rodgers, Domino or Johnson.

Good question. I was going to ask why he might have been out as well. I think it was Chris Tracy that replaced him for those series? I'm guessing, but it seems I remember seeing a #38 out there. I didn't have a game day booklet to check.

                      Anyone know otherwise?

I don't recall seeing a post on how #73, big Nate Koskovich, lit up the west-side crowd with his thumbs-up "I'm okay" signal as he left the field following what we feared was a knee or ankle injury. Koskovich was down on the field and the trainers were attending to him. The crowd was quiet. After a minute or so, it seemed, based on what was being done, he had a real tough cramp in a calf muscle. He slowly got up and limped a few steps at first and then started to trot to the sideline. Clearly the crowd was relieved and started to clap. Koskovich looked up and held out both arms, thumbs up and the applause got real loud. Nate's part of that great crew that made sure nobody touched Tommy O'Brien.

As for the QB situation for SIU, it sounds like the battle for starting QB was really close this year. So I'm gonna guess the back-up was the one making the challenge.

Was along the fence on the East side and had no clue what was going on. Thanks for the clarification.
