  • Re: 2010 Football Recruiting List

Not surprised that they will try to make every recruit or even the recruiting battle a victory. It will be a few years to see how well each class pans out. If we look at the last few years I am not to worried about the recruiting numbers right now. Let them have there party thinking they have finally turned the corner back but in a few years we will know who still is getting the better recruits.

But in the end, I don't know that Bohl's demonstrated any real recruiting ability; and if NDSU landed a star in Dudzik at the expense of a dozen flameouts in their 18 early commits, well, that's just more of the same.

There are some Bison fans that are celebrating a victory over SDSU in this recruiting battle. Perhaps we can mock up a play-doh or papier mache marker trophy and send it to them.

A few are also hallucinating about Florida bowl appearances once they go BCS, too, so I wouldn't worry too much about responding.

every coach has a different strategy when it comes to recruiting, some like to get verbals from a main core early and let those names recruit others in the area, others like to wait out and try to get guys who either because of injury or whatever reason were passed up by the BCS schools who they thought they had a real chance of getting an offer from.... both can work, both can fail, in the end it is what you do with the players in the end that counts....

The Bison have beat the JAcks for the majority of the recruits they both have targeted for the past how many years? yet the Jacks have won the past 3 matchups....

I highly doubt that he picked NDSU because they had more recruits signed than SDSU. I wish the kid the best of luck and I'm sure he made the best decision for himself, but that would be a lame deciding factor. Perennial FCS contender App St rarely has more than 5 recruits until the final weeks of the signing period.

I'm still excited, and confident, to see what recruits the coaching staff will bring in. We've been working some competitive areas in Arizona, Calli, & MO/KA/OK. I have a feeling the staff is really looking for those extra level players and will be reeling in some impressive players. We already have two recruits who both look to be excellent additions. Statistically the best QB in South Dakota history and a DE who led his team, #2 JUCO team in the nation, in sacks.

One thing in my watchings in the last month of FCS football that I would like to see the Jacks get in this recruiting class is a guy like Mariani (we know where he's from), Czszar (or however the heck you spell it from Villanova) and Pendman (McNeese).

These guys most of the time are too small for the FBS schools to look at, but are blazing fast small guys that make teams pull their hair out. *ahem, cough...SDSU.

They said during the title game Mariani was a walk-on. Good lord, that guy turned into an all-american. Talk about a find.

SDSU had this guy. Maybe not as small as those others, but Jaron Harris was raw coming out of high school. He had only played football for a couple of years which may have turned off bigger schools, but he was blazing fast and that raw talent that SDSU saw and turned into the best receiver we've seen in a Jacks uniform in some time.

Maybe Trevor Tiefenthaler is that guy. Keep looking for others. These guys can obviously be diamonds in the rough for FCS schools.

SDSU has always been good at finding "those guys". Not sure if it's harder to bring them in now than it was in the DII days or not. I would assume though that in the coming years you'll see a player or two that was a walk on turn into an All-American at SDSU. Has happened before, and it will keep happening. Just hope they are true difference makers the like of Mariani.

Not that it is yet to the level of Mariani but Conrad Kjerstad was a walk on as was all conference center Ryan McNight.

I agree and would just say that this was probably more a case of a young kid talking a little bit too much. We've seen it recently with Summner talking about the possible transfer of Mondol and Whittier that sometimes these young kids just are not experienced enough with the media to say that right thing.

I would add the newspaper quotes from Troy Wolters from a year ago as well. Dealing with the media is a learned skill, and it is difficult sometimes to leave well enough alone. A good reporter will always ask why, and be quiet long enough to allow the interviewee to keep talking.

Or it could just be one of those things where you take a shot at the rival school after committing..... and since he probably couldn't take a shot at their record figured he could take a shot at the recruiting....

I'll guess that NDSU has some good recruits and more than its proportionate share of mediocrity among its 18 verbals (or whatever the total is now), given the Bison's apparent emphasis on getting early commits. It kind of reminds me of the years when some D-II and NAIA schools in the region would proudly announce signing classes of about 35 players – many of whom turned out to be students who didn't get any athletic scholarship money and would be fortunate to make the team and actually play in a game. Obviously, quality is what matters here. Hopefully, SDSU's patience pays off and is not just tardiness.

I'd doubt that. I don't think Stig runs a program that puts off things like this.

Here's something to chew on: Coaches can't talk about verbal commits before they sign. So how'd this Dudzik guy know how great NDSU's class is? He must've had to do some research on his own, otherwise, the NDSU coaches may have gotten themselves into some trouble.

I still think it was just a recruit trying to make a name by taking a shot at the rival school....but you do make a good point the article says coach whatever said we have 18 commitments and the Jacks only have 1-2 commitments.... now I think the coaches are allowed to say they have verbal's they just can't comment on who they are.... wouldn't be surprised if the coach at least gets a call from the AD....

The one recruit on this list that really stood out to me after watching the videos is Ethan Kipili'i, as he is exactly the type of athlete that thrives in FCS football. He is undersized, which probably made him fall off some FBS schools radar, but he looks like Jimmy Rogers playing the receiver position (watch the video). Top it all off he runs a 4.5 forty, so he has the athletic ability to go along with the effort. Barring injury, I just don't see how this kid wouldn't pan out, and maybe even be something special. Hope he enjoys his visit on the 2nd of January so much that he'd like to stick around for another 4 to 5 years.
