Coyotes trail Cal-Poly 28-7 late in the second quarter. Blow-out city. Looks like the Yotes will pick up their fourth moral victory of the year and remain undefeated at 2-4.

Congrats to the Cowboys. Now that I've moved past the disbelief, I want to say you guys played a hell of a game, and participated in one of the most intense Hobo Day games ever at SDSU and came away with the win. That means you guys are the real deal. Good luck the rest of the season.

Everybody needs to remember what kind of player Jimmy is. Nobody could be more disappointed than he is. I'll say this though: My money's on Jimmy to have a monster game in two weeks against Cal Poly.
I would hate to be Cal Poly Oct. 18. Not just Jimmy, the whole team is going to be insanely energized in two weeks after this heartbreaker and the bye week to heal.

Just got back home. We won that game, the score doesn't show it but thats what our guys have to be thinking. No disrespect to McNeese, one heck of a good team with a great running QB. Heads up, fluke that we lost.

          Damn, just damn.

I walked out of CAS feeling like I did walking out of Frost in 1997 and 2001. This will really show us what this team is made of. Now, we know what we have to do. So many chances to win that game today, so many chances. Just wasn't meant to be.

I agree, MD. Jacks could-of, should-have won. I thought the game was over, in the Jacks favor, about three times in the last two overtimes. It was a heck of an exciting game to watch. The Jacks played short-handed because of injuries, but we can't use that as an excuse. The McNeese QB was elusive and would have been hard for anyone to stop. The Jacks play hard and are always in contention. This is a very solid and deep Jacks team.

Great game today guys by two teams that did not know how to quit. We had a great time in Brookings today starting with eggs and kegs at Skinners, the parade, then to the tailgate and finally the game. We followed that up with pizza at George's and it just doesn't get any better. The game atmosphere was first class and all the Jack Fans were accomodating and great hosts. Best of luck to the Jacks in the remainder of the season!!!

I don't even know what to say about the game...I'm still stunned, I guess. I've never really been mentally or physically affected by a football game before, but this game sure took a toll on me. From absolute jubilee, to awe, to horror, to pure delight, to annoyance, to shock, to amazement, to stunned silence, to denial....this game had it all.

My throat is sore, my eyes are tired. I've cheered and screamed and yelled my heart out. Thank God its a bye week, I need it...let alone the players.

Question....I can't remember...was the drive that ended with the FG to make it 24-24, the drive that started with the horsecollar tackle the McNeese guy made to save the TD?

Yes. Starting at the 14, and didn't punch in a TD definitely hurt.

                            • One big catch snares victory from defeat

BROOKINGS, S.D. — There are a couple of feelings you can experience in college football that really make you stick out your chest.
One is winning on the road.
Coming in as the fourth-ranked team in the FCS, I think some McNeese State faithful — and perhaps one sports writer — expected to see the Cowboys make a statement with a convincing win.
After witnessing some of the grandest of last-second heroics ever imaginable, Cowboys fans are lucky to head home with a victory.
Lucky because this game was set up for the Cowboys to lose as best as South Dakota State could manage.
The Jackrabbits were celebrating homecoming with Hobo Day and had the fourth-largest crowd in school history on hand to witness a game in a stadium where nine of the top 10 crowds before them sat and watched SDSU victories.
McNeese dominated early with 158 yards of offense in the first quarter to 45 yards for South Dakota State, but the Cowboys could never shake the Jackrabbits as the teams battled back and forth and neither led by more than seven points.
But, as the saying goes, a win is a win. And the handful of McNeese supporters who made the trip were able to walk out of Coughlin-Alumni Stadium with that goofy grin on their faces that let others know they don’t need to talk to brag — just smile.
And when the Cowboys were faced with a fourth-and-21 death sentence from the SDSU 24-yard line in the second overtime period, and a kid who was allowed in the press box started chanting, “Two-and-two, you’re going two-and-two,” referring to McNeese’s apparent loss about to be suffered, I bowed my head and prayed to the college football gods that if there was any justice in this world that kid would either lose his voice for a month or McNeese would find a miracle finish and win.
My prayers may have been answered twofold.
Steven Whitehead managed to get a bobbled would-be interception away from Jimmy Rogers for a first down at the 1-yard line to start the miracle finish, and the McNeese defense later stuffed a potential tying 2-point conversion attempt by the Jackrabbits to give the Cowboys the dramatic come-from-behind win.
Walking out the press box, the kid sat there stunned, and I tapped him on the arm and let him in on a lesson I learned a long time ago. Another of those great moments in college football — the “Ha, ha, you were wrong” moment.
“One thing you will learn,” I told him as he sat there silent. “Is to never celebrate before the game is over.”
But the real lesson learned here is to never give up.
“That guy is a heck of a football player,” South Dakota State coach John Stiegelmeier said of Whitehead. “For a little guy he has great speed and a big heart and he made some big plays today.
“I complain sometimes about our schedule, but I am proud of how we step up against teams who have a player like a Whitehead,” Stiegelmeier added. “Top 10 teams have players like that.”
Whitehead did a little of everything for McNeese, picking up 50 yards rushing — several times taking the ball on a direct snap — catching six passes for 111 yards and returning two kicks for 31 yards.
It was McNeese’s first game against an FCS team this year, and while it may not have been a convincing win, it was still great.
“South Dakota State does it right,” McNeese coach Matt Viator said. “What a great place to play football.
“We knew it would be tough playing them and playing at their place. It’s a huge win for us.”
Huge wins — another of those great feeling moments in college football.

It was as bad as you think. It was a horrible, horrible play call and the defense was in the perfect set to stop it...which was clear before the snap...overloaded to the left side. Why that play was called against a faster (and more athletic ?) team is a stunner. I'll never figure it out. Why time out wasn't called when we got to the line and saw the defense is also hard to understand. We're just not built for that type of play in general, so it just makes no sense at all...and it led me to swear. A lot.
