Players have to tell the school today, sometimes it takes the school a couple of days to get them in the system.

And he is from California…his parents can make their 1st trip to Brookings(most likely first)when the Jacks play Sac St this fall

Also had a bunch of MAC offers. Seems like a great get in an area of need.

That makes sense. You are just declaring that you are exiting your current school and available to others. I imagine most of the desirable recruits are picked off quickly though.

Last I read, there were more than 10,000 college football players in the portal, and there will be more of them available after FBS teams cut their rosters to comply with new limits. SDSU's staff has a whole lot of evaluation and recruiting work to do. A lot of the available players probably aren't good enough to help the Jacks, but this is a good year to have to significantly restock the team.

There has also been a couple players I had heard rumors we had a good chance of getting that have still not announced. Maybe we are their fall back plan, and there are waiting as long as possible to see if a better option comes up. I see Jackson's most recent follows on twitter are quarterbacks, so it appears getting a solid backup is on his list of priorities.
It sounds like the new roster limits are not yet set in stone. Saw a rumor that current rosters may be grandfathered in, even if they are over 105. That might have an effect on whether some of those borderline players enter the portal.

Are we still in need of a kicker and punter too?

The Jacks seem to be in the market for a safety. Offered two yesterday - Jaden Whaley from Hampton and Jason Thome from Colorado Mesa. Both have a number of FCS offers.

I didn't research it but I'm assuming SDSU does NOT have a limit of roster players?
I don't think this is the panacea some think it will be. We didn't win national championships with the likes of 130th best player from Nebraska or Minnesota. Can we develop some of those guys into quality players? Sure, maybe. But we don't lose AA caliber players to the portal and expect we'll back fill with former middling P4 walk-ons. The walk-on programs aren't what they use to be. Some folks in Vermillion have the delusion that somehow they'll get better players than all their recent departures. We shouldn't kids ourselves likewise.

I believe that is not true. Each school has the option to opt into the settlement/revenue sharing or not. If you opt into revenue sharing, then you are capped at 105 players on the roster. If you don't opt in then you can have as many football players on the roster you want. This applies to all sports, no roster cap on any sport if you don't opt in.

For Montana St., they opted into revenue sharing and they will be capped at 105. SDSU, NDSU,USD did not opt in and therefore no limit on roster size.

At least that is the way it was explained to me by one of the head coaches at SDSU.
