I pointed out before that the savagery of the entirety of the coaching staff leaving was that a tremendous recruiting class had no personal connection left to the school. How often is it that coach is able to take his whole staff with him? I don't recall it happening to NDSU. I think in each case, some of the staff stayed behind, and in those days, transfer rules weren't so liberal. When Entz left, he alone hit the road and most of his staff was still in Fargo, working for NDSU, even though they perhaps weren't retained by Poliseck (Roehl, for a big example). Everyone is gone. Hard to blame a kid in that circumstance. I'm thankful for the kids that are honoring their commitment. I had hoped that the new coach could retain a few more of the higher profile recruits but that likelihood seems to be shrinking by the day and hour.

The silver lining of so many following the staff to Pullman: They aren't going to North Fargo. A lot of these were recruiting battle wins against the Bison and no doubt the Bison would find room for a lot of these guys. So far, we haven't seen any commitments flip to our MVFC competitors, although its probable one or two will end up at NDSU. But each of these recruits that ends up in Pullman is a recruit that doesn't end up in Fargo.

'25 QB Owen Eshelman flipped to WSU. Nice message from him for what it's worth

That was a hell of a recruiting class. I think Jimmy taking the top end talent from that class shows two things: 1: SDSU can be on par with G6 schools as a destination for talented kids with the big difference being that SDSU has and will have the regular opportunity to play in meaningful games; and 2. Jimmy has a real connection with players. I think he'll be successful in Pullman if the admin and fanbase there gives him the resources that are on par with their new conference peers.
    Russell just decommitted

Its pretty clear by looking at their Twitter profiles that there are a number of them on their way out. At this point I am just hoping to keep the local kids and anything else is gravy.
And not only is the former coaching staff poaching most of this recruiting class, they also pissed a year of our recruiting budget down a rathole to do it. SDSU paid to have coaches travel to high schools across the country to establish relationships with them. And SDSU paid to bring all of these recruits and their families to Brookings for official visits. Not sure what our recruiting budget is, but the vast majority of 2024's was wasted.

Whoever Brayden Gage (Defensive Quality Control/Video Coordinator from last year) is working for he's been doing a lot of work. (Thomas follow, JI follow)

Tonight's second interesting one for me is this Kent State DT/NG named Kaden Beatty 3 yrs eligibility (kent state page) (twitter) with an offer from WSU. I see him following Jimmy but no other WSU thing. His older brother Mike (temple page) (twitter) was is a former Temple football player and was a HS fb coach for 2 years. He has followed the following in order: Jonathan Shaeffer (meaning the older brother is being recruited too), SDSU Football, SDSU Jackrabbits, Mark, Zimmer, Kraft, Sitg, JI, Lujan, a diff sdsu fan twitter, and Rogers. Looks like the older brother is very interested in South Dakota State.

Jalyn Thomas TE Iowa (twitter) maybe 3 years eligibility. espn and Iowa dont show much. (J, Eids, Thomas)

Devin Miles Juco RB (twitter) with 1280yd rushing season (Jackson, Cooper)

    Curtis Allen RB D2 (twitter)(school stats) - 1 year eligibility (J, C, T)

HS seniors and juniors including a '25 who says he's #1 CO WR 3* (Benedetto, E)

Iowa Western CC WR who probably has follows from seemingly 40 diff schools at diff levels .(E)

MIcah Davey LB McNeese St (team page) (twitter) - 1 year eligibility '23 All American. has offers from UNLV, Montana (J, T)

Kahmari Brown Elon Freshman AA DE (twitter) (T)

UConn DL who just hit portal Pryce Yates (twitter) (T, Mojica)
I was surprised to see Semchenko (a 2025) commit on JI's TBD list. Have you seen any activity re. his status. He's Heins' cousin and seemed excited about joining the team, although his dad is a Bison alum.

JI reporting Large to WSU. Frankly, if you don't leave here with a degree or for the pros, you should never be invited back. Never acknowledged. No hall of fame or anything like that. This is, still, an academic institution and if you're not an SDSU grad, to hell with you.

WSU has a pretty deep group of young running backs returning, include a big kid who will be red shirt sophomore who had almost 400 yards, 5.4 per carry, who looks to be the top returner. I get the defensive players, and even Angel since he likely is getting some money, but both Vorhees and Woods is really strange. One, or both need to be prepared to possibly spend a lot of time on the bench.
And to add insult to injury, they now have poached Pankey, the top RB recruit in the 2025 class.

I definitely recommend listening to the Sell interview on The Nate Brown Show where he discusses how the hiring process has evolved, how Jackson has hit the ground running, and reasons for optimism.

Sam Herder is also a guest who will apparently be discussing Jacks' coaching and transfer situation, but I haven't gotten to that point of the show yet.

The same can be said for coaches like Isaiah Davis if there's anything to his SDSU player follows listed in the other thread. He's been going after punters and kickers including a sac state kicker who hits 70% of his fgs, 10% more than Dustman. Not sure he has had to experience Brookings conditions though,

If there are more people on staff that haven't revealed themselves on twitter, just know that they're actively recruiting, too.
JI also updated Thomas' status on their page

Once he gets a few more recruits to commit, the total from SDSU is going to be over 20. Crazy you are bringing 20% of your roster to a "P4" school from an FCS roster. I realize there is really good players and team in D2, but if we would have hired a D2 coach and he brought 20% of his players with I would be extremely skeptical.
