the best thing about that tweet is that if you scroll down you see tweets by incoming freshman Cade Rice and Amar Johnson. freaking AWESOME!!! makes me think those 2 are coming in ready to push for more!!!
The 2021 season will be interesting as the Jacks do have a very good team coming back. The big questions will be who plays qb in the Fall. Will the team have players leave the team effecting the depth, injuries that need mending and time, 14 games to get to the finals not 10. Huge difference between 10 and 14 games. Injuries really didn’t effect the team this season until the final game.
Did stig mention anything on his radio show about grono?
I starting listening late, but I didn't hear anything more specific than what's already been reported.
Stig did mention that some players have asked for increased "time off" before summer practice, which he said he was inclined to honor given the extended Spring season
Now that I read it again maybe that fella is hoping it’s a sprain.
Looks like that's exactly what he's doing (assuming your initial post was re. the "We cross our fingers initial thoughts were wrong with Granowski and it was only a bad sprain." subtweet)
I have no idea if the late season is a positive and gives us momentum to ride into the fall. Or if it is a negative and too short turn around, especially without (unconfirmed) Gronowski. Either way, the top teams in the fall in no order will be the usual - half of the MVFC, JMU, SHSU, a big sky team or 2, another CAA team or 2. There's very little doubt in my mind that SDSU will be a playoff team, top 10 team, but making it back to the Championship will be tough. There's so many perfect things that need to align for that to happen, injuries, team chemistry, a little luck.
HOW is it not a positive?? we made it to the championship game. the coaches and players knew what the risks were going in and they chose to play. unless you are saying the ONLY way it could be positive is if we win it all. then ok by that standard it was not. EVERYTHING in life has risks and requires some price. that is how you make decisions. you consider what you hope to get and what it will or might cost and you decide if you are willing to pay the cost
if you are always focused on the cost and worried about every risk then you can sit on the sideline and watch life and opportunities pass you by. i have to imagine that many of us would be losing our minds at this time if the jacks had said, ummmmm NO THANKS we will sit this one out, and then we watched SIU or UND go to the national semis
YES there is definitely risk of short turn around that could lead to injuries, but that is not a guarantee. as i said before, i hope the price for wanting to play this spring will not be too high but i think it was the correct decision. i think the team and coaches would make the exact same decision again if given the choice
team chemistry has NEVER been and never will be an issue. coach stig and the staff that he hires place far too high of a priority on recruiting kids with great character who want to be PART of a team.
Watching the Cade Rice senior highlights shows that he can place the ball very well. He can split double and triple coverage perfectly. But that also implies he is throwing into double and triple coverage. His progression seemed slower and he had a tendency to hit the first option regardless of coverage.
I will wait to see what type of injury Gronowski has. If it is a serious injury would he have been back, and fully healthy, even if this was a normal season? The champions hip game is in early January. If he was out 9 months, he wouldn't come back until early October which means we would be one month into the season before he would come back. Would he be able to jump in a go right away at full speed after that?
Hopefully the coaching staff learned from the 2017 New Hampshire game that you can take the starters out before you get them injured so they turn it over 8 times the next game.
This might be good for the coaches in that area. They might get more players more experience earlier in their careers.
The other players will have more wear and tear but you can swap more players out in several games. They are talking about doing that in the NFL since they added a 17th game. Rotate players in more games in the right situations.
Who knows maybe we’ll get lucky and get a Chris Streveler type FBS transfer. I don’t have much faith in Heide. He is who he is and he did a great job as a holder but I don’t think he can lead the team to a championship. Cade Rice is intriguing but he will barely have any practice reps or anything.
