I'm sure most of these departures are due to anticipated lack of immediate playing time.

The preseason poll is out and it has a interesting (but not surprising) look to it.
SDSU plays the teams picked 8, 9, 10 and 11 on the road. (USD, Youngstown State, Indiana State and Western Illinois)
They play the teams picked 2, 3, 4 and 5 at home. (NDSU, UND, Southern Illinois and UNI)
The do not play the teams picked 6 and 7. (Missouri State and Illinois State)
Preseason polls don't mean much and we will see if these teams finish where they were picked but having all the bad teams on the road and all the good teams at home make for a good schedule (for this year).

Assuming forfeit of any game(s) missed due to COVID shutdown, this seems like a pretty concerning potential threat to national title hopes:
SDSU coach John Stiegelmeier says Jackrabbits have "lowest percentage of guys vaccinated in the Missouri Valley Football Conference." Says team's success in navigating COVID in the spring might have hurt team vax rate because team didn't feel need to get vaxxed.
