Dont worry, sdsu and fans have experience more field conditions then you guys have. We understand thats a part of the game. We have played well in bad conditions and won, and struggled and lost also....to a team that wont be mentioned. Its a little ripe for NDSU fans to to get SDSU fans to get over it. Have you not seen how many NDSU fans reaction to any loss you guys have? Granted its not many, but wow. Plus you havent been in our shoes losing a championship. I could only imagine if you guys lost a title game with your star QB and had to rely on your third string QB....your fan board would explode.
I appreciate the explanation...we will just have to agree to disagree. As for the rest, you are fairly close. The site that shall not be named burns after almost every loss...as a fan base we do not handle losing with grace. And we deserve to be called out on it. Personally, I try to handle winning and losing with grace. There will be some ribbing...but at the appropriate time...more around the week before a game...and generally with fans I have become friends with...as in Slosho, Thumper, and others on here.

All in all, you guys have handled it well...better than we as a whole would have. So I'll leave it with congrats on whooping us, and making it to the title game and making it a real game.

Hmm, where's a field in grand ol' Texas where we wouldn't have to worry about deteriorating turf and lightning and where college football is already played? Hint: it's in San Antonio (and you can't tell me visiting teams and fanbases wouldn't find San Antone just as exciting, if not more so, than Frisco)

Folks say they want to increase interest in FCS football. Maybe you can take a break from sophomoric posts and explain what's gained by keeping it in Frisco instead (other than tradition and supposedly great restaurants).
      LOL...but...but...but...if...if...if...

      • Haven't followed this whole thread, but no excuses on my end. SHS beat NDSU, JMU, SDSU all in a row and went undefeated. That's good enough to call themselves National Champs. That said, if we were to play a best of 7 series, I do think SDSU wins (especially with Gronowski). But that's not the case, and SHS had a great run to the title that they deserve 100% credit for.

I'm with you 100%. I don't get the incessant whining. The Gronowski injury was a killer and the timing was also really bad, but that's football. Injuries are part of the game.

          • I agree...they won, we lost. Injuries are part of the game.

I think the whining you see is probably the result of SDSU fans feeling a little snake-bitten with injuries the past two seasons now, to the most important position on the field, in likely the two biggest games in SDSU football history. Losing your QB1 in the first series/first quarter in a winnable National Championship game and winnable Dakota Marker (College Game Day) game has everyone a little raw. Seeing how close we came to winning said games with a less talented, albeit serviceable, replacement hurts a little more.

I can also understand those feeling, and like most, play the "what if" game a little bit.

Very fair. We have been very fortunate to keep our qbs healthy in the post season (yeah, I know...not talking this year for us). In the 2011 chipper, Jensen went down in the first half...and we were nervous...didn't know how we would manage without him...and luckily he was able to return after one or two series. If he had stayed down, I don't think we win that game. In '19 if Lance goes down, it would have been over right there...he was our offense that year. It is a dangerous game using a mobile qb that has big payoffs...but if/when they get hurt it ruins everything.

On the next episode of "Real Manly Men of Texas".... the tale of a Bearkat who doesn't address simple questions and fixates on topics that aren't even discussed. Will our audience chalk it up to "it is what it is?" Find out this week.

Couple quick questions -- do you think Toyota Stadium is the best field available for the FCS Championship? Similarly, do you feel hosting the game in Frisco in perpetuity at a field which has indubitably had its share of issues (including last weekend) contributes to expanding the FCS fan base?

Yes, I get you think someone saying they'd rather not have the game there is "whining," but you're basing that on how someone else framed the issue. Look at my original post, and that was all I said in response to another poster mentioning potential field drainage issues. Then, another poster tried to make it an online masculinity competition.

Also, pointing out what others have agreed was a likely fumble on their first TD and blatant holds isn't whining. You've said you think they won "fair and square;" well, those are but two examples of unfair and decidely obtuse contributions to their win

This was not clever, or fun. You were on such a roll.

My posts about Toyota Stadium are rooted in the belief that much better alternatives exist [which in some cases (e.g., domed stadiums) would render weather and grass conditions moot] and that utilization of alternate sites could contribute to increased interest in and viewership for FCS football.

Do I believe that Gronowski's injury, weather and field conditions, and missed FGs contributed to the Jacks' loss? Definitely. However, you're mistaken if you blindly follow others' misrepresentations of my posts and believe that I'm blaming Sam Houston fans for the game being in Frisco, the weather being bad, etc.

So answer the boring question as a Bison fan.

Do you think Frisco is the best location for maximizing game quality and viewership irrespective of the teams playing (and assuming it must be held at a neutral site)?

Could there be better? Absolutely. But, it is the best available that wants the game. That's the kicker. Frisco and Plano have done quite a bit to pump up the atmosphere. I was in Florida during a bowl game...and I have to say Frisco/Plano stacked up pretty well. I would love to have the game further south in Texas so as to have a warm weather game...but as is, for us it is about a 17 hour drive...doable in a day, but most break it into two days. Gets tougher to get mass quantities of fans if it gets much further away. For Bison fans, it has gotten a bit stale as we've done every tourist type thing there is to do...would be nice to see a new place. But then, they have opened the place up to Bison fans...the extra special treatment goes along way. And I really like Texas barbecue and tex-mex.

So as for me, I like it where it is. Perfect size stadium.

Last thought...is there a touch of irony in Jack fans wishing the game to be played in a dome? I've got a detector for this and it is going haywire...

                            • i have ABSOLUTELY ZERO information here, BUT perhaps one factor that you might not be considering here Jake. COST??? i can imagine that perhaps frisco might be willing to do the game for very very little cost to the NCAA, because of the economic gain for the community. some of the facilities that you have referenced- Alamodome- for instance would definitely NOT be inexpensive. and san antonio might not particularly care as they have so much tourist business to their downtown area year round

AGAIN i am not saying that i know ANYTHING!! but i guess cost is a factor. i also imagine there could be higher quality fields or even domed fields available in other communities that would appreciate the economic opportunity of hosting such an event

all that said, it is a little ironic for us to be arguing against playing in the natural elements, when for such a long time that was part of the fabric or our program, and definitely played to our advantage at times in the CAS era

and that said i really wish we could bring this entire discussion to a close. who would have imagined that we could keep this topic going for over 6 pages, but we are entering into a bit of a dead period for sports topics so maybe there is nothing else to talk about)??

Honestly, my rationale for the dome is the genuine belief that extreme weather events will become more common. Again, I understand that weather is part of the game, and I've attended rain, cold weather, and near blizzard games in Brookings and had some of the most fun there; however, if the goal is a neutral field and the game will be played in January, a dome may be a better bet due to reduced chance for logistical disruptions
