Granted he could have played better, what i saw he looked ok and made some very nice throws at times.

The defense didnt get off the plane, in my opinion.
He did. I watched a lot of the Cal Poly condensed version and he made some really great throws at times. If he would just get rid of the bonehead plays he'd probably be alright. I still think Sumner should get a look, though.

And yes, the defense looked terrible. Having no beef up the middle is killing the defense right now. I saw a FB dive go 11 yds basically untouched for a TD after the LB over pursued. That's terrible, even in HS.

The D was bad, but TOB, is worse then bad, Not to rag on the guy but he needs a lot of improvement. Throwing off back foot, ability to look off WRs etc, giving the other team 14 points makes the score for the D look worse. The Offense under TOB scored 14 points, the Offense under TOB gave the other team 14 points. The Offense left points on the field, and the D was bad, no doubt about it, but the idea of the game is to score more points then the other team. That is almost impossible to do if your offense gives the other team as many points as it scores it self. Last week our offense scored more points for the other team then we were able to score. The D has issues for sure, but most can be corrected IMO. Most Ds are not able to score many TDs agame, Its unfair to blame the D at this point when our offense can only score 17 points in 2 games.

Then at the same time, Our D has given up more yards in consecutive games and points since TV said like 1912....Thats a big change from just a few years ago. How many points did we give up all year when we had Batten and Domino etc, was it like 12 a game? I cant recall and not enough time to look it up.

Here is my stance. TOB is playing terrible. Our entire offense is playing terrible. Our defense is playing terrible. It is hard for a defense that is on the field 75% of the time to stop everything, hell anything at that point. Thanks to our offense.
Here is my question. As Coach Stig has said, "TOB gives us the greatest chance to win the game." Sounds to me like Sumner has not outperformed TOB in practice. If this is our best QB??? Like head coach has said. Then we are completely screwed and it falls on the shoulders of the coaching staff. Time to find coaches that can get our players ready to play. I think coach Stig wants to see TOB turn it around and become the type of player he is capable of. I think we all want that! So if this is our best option. Then I say we get rid of the QB position all together. Have Zenner or even Moss stand behind the center and hand it off(Not a QB). Sumner can play DE, hell he's 6'5" 230 lbs. TOB can warm up with the other team because thats who he throws to. Do this because the turn overs are not helping and they are going to happen if we have a "QB". Run the ball every down and lets see how many we can bust open.

        That is our only option.

First let me say that the only time I saw TOB was two years ago at Western Illinois. Am planning on driving to Springfield this year which could be to watch a battle for last place. I know less than anyone on this board due to knowledge and experience.

          But....

Assuming TOB was irreparably injured from getting beat up as a Freshman, and you don't want to repeat the same mistake by putting Sumner in the same grinder, how about throwing Jordan Thomas to the wolves? I'm sure Thomas isn't a D1 QB, but nothing could be worse than what's happening now and at least you're not damaging your future star (if he doesn't transfer).

As I made it clear, I don't see "what it takes" from him to be the on or off field leader of the team but I'm not there to judge except on Saturdays. Therefore, I must defer to those who are there at all times.

I see on this thread and some others comments about the appropriateness of criticism in the forum. That is an entirely different debate that won't be easily reconciled. So, my advice, respect the opinions of others. If those opinions seem too harsh make note of it. Remember, different people use this forum in different ways. Just as judgement in a post may seem inappropriate, judgement of the poster based on content in a thread is also likely flawed and not appropriate. I think JackMD has this spot on. While I initially think I have answers, I don't. I'm not a coach and shouldn't pretend to know much about anything. Hopefully our team will just plug away and turn the ship around and we will go on to a great season.

Some things I noticed while watching the game:

O'Briens lack of arm strength to get the ball to the receiver, and making up his mind of who he's going to throw to before the ball is snapped, he was really bad at staring down his target. Both things that I think Sumner will do a much better job of.

                      According to TV's tweet....

Bombshell: SDSU coaches say that third-year starting QB Thomas O'Brien has quit the team. More info at Argusleader.com.

Is it a foregone conclusion that Sumner takes over...or is Jordan Thomas in the mix?

I know fans thoughts don't count, but I thought they should have split time with TOB and sumner, now if anything I hope to see one atleast feel comfortable out there. My guess is we could see some of both. didnt we hear a lot about Kline as a freshman impress coaches a lot?

I believe Stig said that Sumner will start. I wonder if he wished he would have put Sumner earlier in each of the last two games.

Almost toast SJ, but feel the need to set the record straight for witness: Stig never said Sumner would start. He said they had Sumner and Thomas and would reserve judgment (overnight, I suspect). I suspect Sumner will start, but I hate statements that say "I believe" etc.
