Yep. I know space is a premium and the more space you make the more expensive it is. But I agree with you that if you want to truly make a family friendly envoriment for your school and team, a few accomdations like that are nessiscary. If you want to bring a 9 month old or my 90 year old grandma, chair seating and handicap areas will allow everyone who wants to be their the space needed to be comfortable.

A lot of games students are not there, showing up for a rival game or home coming is not enough reason to add more student seating if they do not show up full force every game. With the new stadium I am guessing it would be for an increase in student section along with reserved and general admin assuming their will still be general admin not just all reserved.

I get what you are saying but some students dont come due to lack of seating in the student section. 5-10 years from now if the Jacks are consistently contenders in the MVFC and the students come out in force there will need to be more student seating.

Better handicap access is required. I've a friend that stopped attending when the N endzone was made off limits because he had nowhere to sit with friends in his wheelchair. As for students, yes we need more room for them. With the increased student attendance (nice to see) and the growth of the school there is not enough space for them now. I do hope this is built larger than needed. SDSU and South Dakota is growing fast. In 20+ years a crowd of 20k and more could be common place.

No doubt, For many years, going on for decades, students would be great for 2 games a year and forget to show up other games or cold weather games.

I know the students get a bad wrap for not showing up for all the games and showing up in good numbers for big games. Its not only the students who are guilty. Many of our so called (adult) Jackrabbits fans are guilty of this as well. If the weather is good and its a big game its amazing how many Jackrabbit fans we have. Of course winning curse most of the attendance woes. Win and everyone jumps on the band wagon.

Not sure it's fair to criticize students for not showing. The people I know in the Athletic Department tell me they've been happy with student turnout for the most part. Getting 2,000 to 3,000 students into CAS is pretty good considering all of the things students have on their plates (work, for example). Could do better, no doubt. But the student section has been full to overflowing several times in the past couple of years.

Most of our alumni don't live with in a few miles of campus or get in for free but yes alumni support a lot of games stinks too.

Westside was there with me. Student support has been much improved the last few years, and while they may not be the loudest at times, they are there and I get tired of people dogging on the students at football games, its just another excuse IMHO.
00-07. I was in the marching band snd could see it was not always full. Maybe it is different now

I sat in Sec D last season. Near the student's section. From what I saw the student's are showing up now and more space for them is called for.

I think the % of students that show up to a game in terms of those that are in town on gameday is pretty high. For whatever reason South Dakota Universities look like ghost towns on most weekends. I think the key to getting more students at the event is keeping them in town on the weekends.

Lower the drinking age to 18 or 19 and youd probably keep them in Brookings.

Joeboo is right the number of students attending is proportional to those that are in town on the weekend. With the growth at State & in Brookings (neither are small any longer) there is a significant population of students on campus. Also, and this is what my son tells me, there is quite a bit going on, other than partying, at State & in Brookings that is holding more students in Brookings. RO could confirm this or dispute it. I think these factors, along with expectations of a competative team in a strong conference, has led to significantly increased attendance by the students.

I think that it is very important to ensure that we ALWAYS have adequate seating/standing space for students. They may only attend a big game in one season, but attending the big game may very possibly be the stimulus for them to attend most or all of the home games in their upper class years. It is the student fans that will become the alumni fans that buy tickets and write donation checks. For the future of the program, we have to have a place for the all of the students who want to attend the games, even if not all of the student seating is filled every game.

I believe AD Sell said on the pregame show before the Southern Illinois game in 2010 (our first time playing in front of SIU's aluminum bleachers) something along the lines of, "We're aiming higher." No guarantee we'll hit our target, of course, but at least we're aiming high, which is obvious from the initial drawings. I guess the results of the survey will determine whether we need to adjust our aim.
