Belmont & ORU's football teams are not nearly as good as ours - see what I did there

UMKC is among the least desirable schools in the Summit. They couldn't leave the Summit until some other conference was desperate enough to have them.

          This.

Their women's basketball team got decent last year, only to have the head coach scuttle off to Oklahoma State to become an assistant. New coach isn't bad, but . . . and this is filbert saying this . . . it's women's basketball.

UMKC men's basketball has been atrocious, except for a couple of years where Rich Zvocic pulled them above the waterline in the (then) Mid-Con. And UMKC fired Zvocic because . . . well . . . damned if I know . . . I guess because the new AD, Tim Hall, didn't like him. Simply proving that Tim Hall is a blithering idiot.

Which would, in turn, explain the whole UMKC-to-WAC move.

I still wonder if they left before they got kicked out for some reason we don't know yet. Like Chicago State just before we got to the League. Of maybe they just aren't too bright.

I'm going with the "blithering idiot" explanation, until something more tangible comes to light.

I call it the Shanahan Axiom (based on the way he handled RGIII): Stupid people are stupid people because they do stupid things.

Georgetown, Butler, St Johns, Villanova...need I continue? If they are called upon by the Catholic League they will join them.

You've answered your own question. Belmont to the MVC represents a similar step up in the quality of competition.

And, to revisit the whole "Catholic schools stick together" notion, why wouldn't Gonzaga, Loyola-Chicago, Loyola-Maryland, Loyla-Marymount, St. Marys, San Francisco, St. Louis, Notre Dame and the blue USD also join? If travel isn't an issue, then the 'Zags should be in, and if it is an issue, then Creighton is on the extreme periphery of this conference.

Not sure why this involves Belmont.

I wouldn't compare the travel of Gonzaga to Creighton. The Catholic Conference already has Midwestern members, it has no members in the Pacific time zone. The only question is do the Catholic schools and Fox want Creighton? Creighton is gone if yes, the decision is a slam dunk for them.

Sorry, I had your response confused with someone who figured that Belmont wouldn't want to join the MVC.

I still find the Creighton to "Catholic Conference" a bit of a stretch, in no small part because I find the idea that the Catholic conference wants 12 members to be a bit of a stretch. And even if they wanted 12, they can get their more efficiently by inviting SLU instead of Creighton (SLU, Xavier, Dayton, Butler, VCU).

                                Why Creighton would leave

                                1. Money, MVC makes good money, but from the reports I've seen, the Catholic league will make more
                                2. Catholic Church, they have a funny thing of convincing their schools to do what is best.
