Been thinking the same thing. The title of this thread is absolutely priceless! That is some of the highest-quality smack I've seen in a while. At least I'm sure his heart was in the right place.

We had a lot of close losses our first season and a big blowout by UC Davis. However, we turned those into wins and built from our close losses. We are now an established FCS team to beat. USD is a long ways from there. A close loss at UNI is the first step. They have to back that up with an actual victory against a D1 opponent. When we were blown out by Davis, we were able to make a positive out of winning at Southern - a huge win at that time. I'm reserving judgment on how good they actually are until I see how they do at Montana St (who is down this year).
Well, MJA what did you think? I'm surprised Shepard's numbers were so bad. I figured Mont St. would take it to them out there.

I've run into several individuals who consider themselves yote fans. None of them knew the result of the game last night so I am assuming none of them listened. We had the hunting lodge full of people listening to the Jacks, I was taking phone calls from various friends discussing the game as it was being played, and my wife and her friends were texting me from the scrapbook retreat for updates. Now, I'm definitely not a totally objective observer but I think the level of interest is quite a bit different between the two programs right now.

Amazing how little chatter there is from any yote fans anywhere today. I am curious, I must admit. Perhaps their performance was somewhat like ours yesterday and they are much better than a 37-18 loss where they trailed 35-0 despite 5 turnovers by the Bobcats. They better make some adjustments before the Cal-Poly game or the result should be similar or worse for the yotes.

I didn't realize the Bobcats had 5 T.O.'s, that game could've/should've gotten real ugly. Cal Poly won't be so nice.

        Go Jacks!!

          Prediction:

          Cal Poly 45
          USD 12

USD fans need to be patient. Bumping scholarships to 59 doesn't do a thing for you in year one. They've got Shepard for another year, right? Then they've got a very talented freshman behind him. It just takes time.

Of course the top D2 teams are as good as most FCS teams. And USD fans are sure they'd beat SDSU. Never mind that we had more wins against FCS opponents this WEEKEND than they have... well... ever. And that will continue next week, in ugly fashion.

I've been using Cal Poly as an example for CF for a couple of years as a team that is clearly more talented and deeper than any D2 team USD ever faced. CF will see this weekend what we've all been talking about.
          Holy nutmeg!

35-7 Poly as we pulled in to the garage. We'll get some revenge for the yotes in 2 weeks.

Wow...42-7 at the end of the third quarter, before the subs came in to finish things up. Sheds some light on my favorite quote from Ed Meierkort which said there isn't a lot of difference between the "top" Division II teams (which I assume he felt his team was one of the "top") and the FCS teams.

If Cal Poly is able to do that to USD in the Dakotadome in a couple of years I will buy into the fact that FCS is quite a bit better. I predicted this game was going to be the worse loss of the year as soon as the schedule came out. Many things were pointing for a tough game for the Yotes tonight. I am not at all surprised. D2 = can't win any tough road games. D1 = same thing. No surprises here.

USD coach quoted in the Argus Leader this morning:

We’re just not quite ready to play at this level yet,” USD coach Ed Meierkort said. “I thought we had opportunities, but they’re better than we are. It’s not a cop-out; it’s the truth. You can’t get better until you face the truth. The kids played hard, but we have to get better.”

Could it possibly be that D-II is not equal to FCS after all?

Oh, cripes. Here we go again. Road games don't count. USD got their rear ends handed to them on the road, but it's not because FCS is better. It's because USD doesn't play great on the road.

                      Give me a break.

USD lost because, as your coach said, FCS programs ARE better than D2 teams. USD is still essentially a D2 team, with 36 grown ups and 23 redshirt freshmen. You have not won an FCS game yet, and it's probably that you won't win one this year (UND doesn't count and SUU just beat Youngstown). How much more evidence do you need?

If you expect to lose CF you will lose? Big difference about the Jacks attitude. Don't care where or who we play - we expect to win. If previous quotes about how insignificant the difference is between good Dll and FCS programs is true, your doing your best to disprove it! Just like last week at Montana St. Before the subs form MT came in it was 35 - 0. But the USD article read, mistakes and poor calls cost the Yotes their first FCS win. How many bad calls and mistakes does it take to trail 35 - 0? Jacks have a week to heal before we thump Poly.

Coach Ed said it in the Argus today, the yotes are an inferior team at this level. He knows, the players know it, CF knows it. Does that mean they won't eventually succeed? Absolutely not. The yotes could become a solid FCS program. When do they play another FCS team?

Can we really say that the Jacks have faired much better than they Yotes this year. Blown out at Iowa St (can't make any comparisons though), played very ragged for the most part at Stephen F Austin and lost just as badly or worse than the Yotes at UNI. You cannot fairly argue the competition level of FCS as far as the Yotes are concerned until they get a fair amount of home games to make a valid argument. Just look at your own Missouri Valley Conference. How have the road teams been fairing so far, thats right not very well. No one has pulled off a significant road win yet. SDSU has won vs NDSU, vs Western Illinios and vs Youngstown. How have those games gone when you have gone on the road? Not very well.

USD is a jeckly and hype football team when it comes to road vs home. They need some home games before you can truley measure the overall competition level of FCS. I think that is a more than fair statement.

We can say whatever the h*ll we want. We all believe the Jacks are great and you had better believe the Yoties are great or you are not much of a fan. You keep forgetting this is the Jacks Board. We don't have to like what you say, but don't come on here after a game like yesterday's and try and tell us we are at the same level as a transition team. Please.
