And if you do know the whole story, why not enlighten us?
if they were rumors why did he quit the team??

I know of certain SDSU, USD, Nebraska, Iowa, Minnesota players that do drugs, the thing is making sure you have programs/rules in place for when they get caught.

Off topic, but I can't resist. I know you sometimes type in a stream of consciousness type style, but stating that it's hard to throw stones at a school when one of their star players was running a drug house? How is it hard to throw stones? HE WAS RUNNING A DRUG HOUSE. He had cocaine and Oxy at his house. Those are real drugs at the top of the federal sentencing guidelines and he had a lot of it in his house. That is a little different than a kid getting caught with a joint.

On top of that, you use your broad paint brush to say that you know "certain" SDSU, USD, Neb, Iowa and MN players who do drugs? What, do they send you a tweet when they're toking up? People on this thread are beating around the bush about the rumors of Wegher getting two girls pregnant during his freshman year of college causing him to take a year off of school, yet you are going to openly claim to know of athletes doing drugs in all of those schools? Interesting. Maybe I'm just cranky...

I don't think that you are cranky at all. I think that you are spot on.

Rumors are rampant on message boards, and 99% of the time the posters have just as much knowledge of the situation as the people that they are trying to "inform." Usually, one the "I know a guy who knows a guy" is thrown out by a poster, the rest of his/her posts are suspect.

I believe the rumor has also been stretched to include the detail that the two young ladies were roomates. Now thats a leap off the cliff. I don't think young college ladies like to share their man. Or was this some sort of a situation comedy? I also concurr, MJA is not cranky but bold enough to bring this up.

I don't know much about the story but people quit teams for many reasons. Maybe he wanted more playing time. He could want to move closer to home. How about the University of Iowa is too big for him? What about it being too tough to play football and get good grades at the same time? How about having a girlfriend that went somewhere else and he wanted to be with her? How about a member of his family having health problems and he wanted to get closer to home?
There could be many reasons for quitting a team. It doesn't happen very often but I let things play out until I hear the "real" story from them or the school they went/go to. Sometimes we don't get the story and that is frustrating but it is a 19 years old life and they have to do what they think is beast for them and live with the consequences.

Believe it or not I do know people in and/or around all of those programs. All what I'm saying is it happens a lot more then anyone knows. As far as Iowa, it sounds like once they found out they took care of the situation, it also sounded like he wasn't running the drug house just living it knowingly ( i know both aren't good). What upsets me though and every school body/alumni does it. Is that they say well that doesn't happen here, we don't allow that to happen, etc. Well it does happen, and it seems like SDSU has good programs in place and makes sure it doesn't escalate and takes care of it which is good. But to go out and say Iowa is a drug ring because a handful of players got caught I think is wrong. If they were covering it up and knowingly letting these guys off then Iowa deserves all the criticisms but until then I think its unfair to judge the program.

As far as Wegher, I'm all for letting him play....

91jack did a great job responding to this so I will not.

I would like to point out two points:

                    1) He had enough 'character' to realize that he couldn't handle school, football, and his personal problem. (Marc Morehouse mentioned Wegher becoming a father in Novemeber. That is the first I have read of any rumor since August).

                    2) Ferentz never spoke bad about Wegher. He said he was welcome back to the team at any time.

If you don't want him to play for the Jackrabbits that is fine. However, if he isn't in black and gold, yellow and blue is the next best thing in my opinion.

I would argue this with you.. based on fandom all the best players (student-ath. as evaluated by our coaching staff)should be in yellow and blue (and not at mich. either)

My fandom started with the Hawkeyes so it is hard for me to put the Jackrabbits before them. You do have a good point. And really no one should go to Michigan. Have you heard about this Ann Arbor that is always in town?

Kids make bad choices sometimes. I know I did when I was 20 years old. I sure as heck know I'm not qualified to be the first to throw a stone.

I'm not sure what has you so fired up??? Did he do something criminal?? From what I've heard and read the situation isn't all that different than Ryan Berry's, whom I assume you are fine with.

Kid made some poor choices. He seems to be owning up to them and moving forward with his life in the best way possible.

I'm willing to hold of judgment of a 20 year old kid until reliable information becomes available that his actions are truly that reprehensible.

When did Ryan Berry get two girls pregnant around the same time? Guess I missed that. I still think most on here on confusing charachter and morals. they are different.
