Depends on her turn over ratio. I dont care as much as what we need as long as we are getting the very best player possible. If she can defend a quick slasher guard or can keep TOs low, i think she would be a wecome addition. I say you take whats best available not just for what you need. a 6-3 avg post or a great 5-9 guard which we are deep at? tough call but she seems to be showing she would be a great asset.

Why would you strip a schollie from someone who is red-shirted and has not had an opportunity on hte court yet. If you were to strip someone of a scholarship, and I don't think they should, I would take it away from someone who can't play defense against quicker, faster guards. Maybe we have nine on the roster, but to date none have been successful stoping Luper or Bigham. Other teams have had success, just not us.

Firstly, I think it's preposterous to assert that SDSU needs better players to beat ORU, when SDSU stomped NDSU & IPFW--who have accounted for all three of ORU's losses. My post was sarcastic. I can't think of anything more ridiculous than adding another guard to SDSU's rotation.

Secondly, even if SDSU were at some disadvantage vs. ORU that could be remedied by Ashley, I think the weakness in the post would bite SDSU in the butt far more often than having NINE guards would help them.

Oh by the way, nobody else has stopped those two either!

Stripping schollies to recruit a high school player? There's a surefire way to kill what they have worked so hard for on the recruiting trail. It would be a program killer. Absolute non-sense for it to be suggested.

The only time I could see taking a scholarship is if there would be a player that has no interest in being a part of the team and is a cancer to the program. Even then it is a risky proposition.

If stripping schollies was accepted just think how many opponents would have considered that to try and stop Warkenthien and Boever over the last couple years.

Ms. Ashley appears to be a very good player.

AJ and staff have proven they are able to evaluate players and team needs more than adequately. I think they have earned the benefit of the doubt as to whether or not Ms. Ashley would be a good fit.

Oh yeah, maybe SHE has indicated that she has no desire to play at SDSU. That would make offering a scholarship a little pointless. I have no idea on this at all and am merely pointing out that as of this date, I do not think there is much of a basis on which to criticize the women's program based on the recruiting.

I think at the end of the day AJ will take the best available player with Cala's scholarship and that might be for a player in the 2010 class or 2011. Bottom line is we have shown nobody on our team capable of stopping the two freshman from ORU be it guards or post help. I don't promote cutting players scholarship, but I do think there will be some natural attrition at the guard position based on playing time. We have two forwards coming with Strop at 6'0 and Waytashek at 6'2. In 2011 we have Rachael Walters who is 6'1 so we do have some size on the way. AJ indicated he is looking for a difference maker and if that is Ashley then welcome aboard. She has skills that we do not have on this team and that is a guard with quicks at the defensive and offensive end.

Perhaps if ORU was the only team that we had a high number of turnovers I could see the fact that they were doing something special against us. TOs are just something that this year's team has a difficult time with, and even this year I don't believe the numbers are astronomically higher than the past.

The difference is this year we don't have the two outstanding inside players like we have in the past. Let the ladies continue to improve and watch, the Jacks will be able to beat ORU with what we have.

AJ and his staff have a much better idea what this team needs and what it can do. I trust him.

After watching ORU play against Oakland, North Dakota State and IPFW there is sometning that they do to State that they don't do to the other teams unless they are behind and need quick points. That is full court press. Against the others they did it far less than against State. Why, because they get the turnovers against the Jacks far more than the others. One other observation, they get called for less fouls for all their reaching in and grabbing and also seem to get the better calls overall. Against the Dons there were some very obvious fouls not called on Luper and Bigham. Maybe next year this will change.

Your preaching to the choir here. It was Zooropa that suggested Aj maybe should strip a scholarship. I suggested recruiting guards that were qucik enough and fast enough and could play under control to stop the likes of Luper and Bigham

I was NOT being serious. I think adding a guard to this lineup in the belief that it will cure problems vs. ORU is preposterous.

Not if the guards we have can't cure our problems.

Don't lay it (stopping Luper/Bigham) all on the guards for goodness sakes. Defensive rotation, help in the lane, etc. can contribute to the problem. And as for turnovers, don't put all the turnovers on the guards either, as we have had plenty to go around. We are adding another guard next year in Gabby Boever, along with Waytashek and Stroup.

Seriously now, about scholarships,I think it's an agreement between the player and the athletic staff .A contract actually, as long as the player plays to the best of thier ability, the athletic staff should honor thier committment. Someone said though, that a scholarship is on a yr to yr basis?I alway's thought it was for 4 yrs.
