Good start to the tournament. Hopefully the nerves are calmed and the ladies are used to this. Bring on the competition. K-state, Hofstra, and Virginia Tech also advance today.
Go Big! Go Blue! Go Jacks!

Wow what excellent fans at the game I can't believe how loud the Student section was.

              Re: Illinois State - WNIT

Just returned to SF from the game. Had a great time! That place was rockin', especially at the end when we knew it was in the bag.

I hate to "poo-poo" as Mike Greenberg would say, but I thought when they played the "Everybody Hurts" song as the ISU player laid on the court grasping her knee in pain was a little classless. Let the band play or something. I would have been more than ticked off if it was my daughter down there and the person running the music was trying to make light of it. To each his own I guess!

On to round 3 and another game at Frost!

It will be just like the "ol days" tonight. Glad that I have reserved seats. See you there!!!!

                Go Jacks!!!
This young lady is only a sophomore and she appeared to me to be some what of a project. Grimsrud took the ball away from about 6 times and she picked up 2 foul early in the game. To her credit, Lewis, I believer her name is, could get her hands up and they pressured our inside people if we got a defensive rebound by two timing our rebounder. Also No 10 and No 15 got some easy shots in the first half when we left lanes open for a drive. At half time AJ apparently made some very good adjustments and ISU could not get those easy layups on a drive that they got in the first half.

I think ISU is a very good team. They may have been a bit exhausted from the travel and 3 OT. I admire the bus load of fans and with their red, they were not hard to pick out in the crowd of blue and yellow.

                  My game thoughts.

I'm with TK on the Everybody Hurts thing.  I have heard it twice now and thought it was absolutely tasteless.  I'm real dissapointed that someone hasn't stepped up and fixed that.

Best sign of the night came from the student section it read something like "You can come from Anywhere and get beat here"

Great crowd and everyone was into it.  It go sooo loud near the end my kids were covering their ears.  The atmosphere was amazing.

Now I have to find a way to afford tickets for Wed/Thurs night.  Lets be sure we don't have a fan letdown and only come 4000 strong.

One note: there was a young lady on the court after the game that was playing around with some of the kids. Don't know who she was but she appeared to be a future recruit. Two things I noticed about her. First she was playing around and interacting with the little kids that were on the court afterward. Second, at one point she made a running attempt at the rim and got a good hand on the iron. VERY IMPRESSIVE young lady... On both accounts.

The young lady you are talking about is from Stanley County (Ft. Pierre, SD.), and yes, the Rabbit staff have their sights on her. This young lady, she is a soph. in HS, is very athletic, and I think will develop into a very good college ballplayer. When she went up and flicked the ball out of the rim, I think many people were in shock that a "girl" could do that. This girl could be fun to watch in the future.

Thanks Birdgrad. Your ISU team is a good team. I do feel that Thursday 3ot game took their legs away for tonight. I hope we win it all and you can say that you got beat by the Champs.

                        Re: Illinois State - WNIT

What a great game!  ISU: classy and very talented.  I can't help but think a three-OT game had to wear down the Redbirds somewhat and then coming to a packed Frost Arena didn't help ISU's cause.  By the second half, the Redbirds appeared fatigued and I give some credit to relentless, pounding, physical defense by the Jacks but I also think ISU was tired from their battle with Rice U.

And while thinking about how ISU had to have used a lot of emotional capital in their victory over Rice, I also thought about how SDSU hadn't played a game for two weeks.  It showed how in the second half, we seemed a lot smoother on everything we did.  At times, we looked like we could beat ANY TEAM.

For those of you who couldn't make it to Frost, just imagine the best of the "old days" in a packed, rockin' house.

                        Bring on the next opponent.

P.S.: I hope we dump the "Everybody's hurt" like other posters have said. Classless. It's hard to fully understand a young person getting injured until its your own kid. I wouldn't wish that on anybody, whether one of ours or an opponent.

Congratulations to the Jacks on a great game and kudos to ISU. they were certainly a team with class. Noticed the ISU coach coming out to center court after shaking AJ's hand and finding Megan and congratulating her. As mentioned above, ISU did look a litle gassed the second half, just having their confereence tourney and the 3 OT game along with the travel. Spent the seekend watching AA in SF and got used to that speed and athleticism of that level. Then watching the Jacks, was really inpressed with the athletes and the awareness they had on the court. Great passing game last night. Got to run to the office this afternoon and check my schedule for this week to see if can make it Wed or Thurs night. Two hour drive home is tough, but a lot easier when you get a great win like last night. Congratulations again.

"Everybody Hurts" isn't a song about mocking someone's pain. It's about empathizing with somebody in pain. There's nothing "light" about that song.

                              Lyric:

"Everybody hurts. take comfort in your friends.
Everybody hurts. dont throw your hand. oh, no. dont throw your hand.
If you feel like you're alone, no, no, no, you are not alone"

And on it goes. It's actually a song about not giving up when things seem bad. So if that's mocking somebody, I don't really get it.
                              Holy nutmeg!
