    Re: Illinois State - WNIT

Any reason we can't bring cowbells?

Good to see our new friends from Illinois State visiting the message board.  Frost is gonna rock tomorrow night.  Once the game is over, not sure if the Redbirds will ever be able to return to Normal.

I'm bringing two Drake fans with me...they'll be wearing Yellow for SDSU ... they know what the Redbirds did to Drake this year in the Mo Valley regular season.

We can't because it is a NCAA post-season rule.

        Re: Illinois State - WNIT

Saw this on the redbird site:

I agree that the refs were horrible. However, there were a number of no calls during the 2nd and 3rd OT that went our way. During the second half of the season it seems as if the Birds have played "not to lose". That certainly was true in the Creighton game and even in the game against Rice on Thursday night. It seems that, in the closing minutes of the game, everyone except for Cerone is afraid to shoot the ball. They routinely pass up good, open looks to pass the ball. And our post players refuse to take the ball to the hole strong. When they do shoot, they hesitate long enough to allow the opponents toset up a double team. Tamara Butler is another player, besides Cerone, who seems to have some confidence late in the game and will shoot the ball if open. I hope when we play SDSU we play to win and avoid playing not to lose.

          Here's another one

6,000 tickets already sold?? WOW!! But, there probably isn't much else to do in Brookings, SD on a Saturday night. I agree that this will be a tough game for us. But if we play aggressive and if Megan is able to zone in from 3 point land. We can win. I hope Robin plays Kenyatta Shelton more than she did Thursday night against Rice. She makes our team much faster and she has better inside moves than does Nicole or Lashawn.

This team went from a 9-0 conference start to finising 2nd. They are young and seemed to think they were unbeatable. I think they learned a lesson at the tournement. I'm sure your Drake friends will tell you Kristi was POY for a reason. She was also Freshman of the year last year. She is not afraid shoot. The rotation in for the Rice game is not what we are used to seeing. I assume Robin was saving legs for this game. She never rests Kristi or Megan...they don't need it! 8-)

I didn't think this is because it isn't owned by the NCAA. Maybe Triple Crown Sports has the same rule for tournament play?

You still are playing the game using NCAA rules and they prohibit the use of artificial noisemakers in post-season play. We won't need them anyway. The Redbirds will get the message when 6500 fans all yell Ding! Ding! Ding! at the same time as loud as they can.

The NCAA bought the NIT, so that is why NCAA rules will apply. Mentally the birds are tough, noise will not bother them...might help keep them awake though

Is there a video feed to watch the game?

                    Re: Illinois State - WNIT

It will be interesting to see how we do against a 6'5" center. Have we played a game this year against 6"5" or 6"6". Then that begs the question...Will we have to recruit that sort of height in the near future?
It will be just like the "ol days" tonight. Glad that I have reserved seats. See you there!!!!

                    Go Jacks!!!

This was interesting in our paper today. Your coach compared ISU to 2 teams you lost to this year. This should be a very good game.

"Johnston likens ISU to Western Kentucky and Arkansas State, teams with strength inside and on the perimeter."

Nicole's height has caused a lot of problems for teams this year. If she wants to block the shot, no many can shoot over her. Shelton isn't as tall, but she can dunk the ball. LaShawn is just plan agressive under the basket and will be someone to watch.

SDSU thrives on huge runs so expect to see a lot of deer tonight!!!

The NCAA bought the men's NIT, but the WNIT is owned by an independent company, Triple Crown Sports. Nevertheless, it's important to be following NCAA postseason rules, hence no cowbell. Sorry, BirdGrad, but there isn't a video feed available for the game . Hopefully, next season.

I still think SDSU will pull this game out, but it could be a barnburner if we're rusty (we haven't played in two weeks) and if the RedBirds have recovered well from the marathon against Rice.

                              Thanks for the link, BirdGrad.

I think AJ's quote is motivational because those are two teams that we should have beat this season. We were definitely off against Arkansas State and played at Western Kentucky less than two days after playing at UC-Davis. You'll find that playing at Frost is a big advantage for SDSU..........
