    Re: Women's NIT 2008

Does anyone know if the video feed for the WNIT game with the Jacks will be on GoJacks.com or SummitTV? Obviously we don't know who we play yet, but I hope the money I paid for both services will not charge more to see the game.

    Go State!!!

South Dakota Public Broadcasting is also an option. They webcasted the games last year and I'm guessing will likely do it this year if no one else does.

Purdue getting the automatic bid to the big dance for the Big 10 is nice to see. I believe they average about 9000 for home games. It may have been hard to 'out-bid' them for a home WNIT game.

Still would've been great to get a chance to beat the Boilers! They have a top 25 team in the nation almost every year in West Layfayette.

Can't wait to see the brackets! Exciting times around here...weather TRYING to warm up...snow is melting...golf is near...and gearing up for the fight for WNIT tickets...wouldn't have it any other way!

          Go Jacks!!

My preference on playing the Big 10 or 12 teams, is at Frost.

Just trying to figure out potential first round/second round match-ups since a bye is likely. Last year we played Illinois State first, but could have easily play Rice since they lost in 3OT.

Potential regional teams could be Michigan State, Iowa State and Minnesota, who are the last three teams in to the NCAA's accoring to ESPN's bracketology. A first round conference loss could knock all three teams out.

UW-Green Bay is only a 12th seed at 25-4 and will probably be out of the NCAA's if they don't win the the Horizon. That would be an interesting matchup to say the least.

74th in the RPI is Indiana at 18-14, 76th is Marquette at 16-14, 77th is Michigan at 17-13, 78th is Wisconsin at 16-13 and 83rd is Colorado at 16-13.

Iowa st looked pretty good a few weeks ago when they played balylor and they would be a dangerious wnit team. we should be playing iowa st every year during the season

I have an uneasy feeling that this year may be more difficult than last year. We will not sneak up on anyone this year and I believe the long layoff when we were playing so well at the end of the season could be a negative.

An article from Terry about the WNIT wait.

SDSU women face long stretch between games
                    Terry Vandrovec • tvandrovec@argusleader.com • March 11, 2008

BROOKINGS - Already one week has elapsed since the end of the regular season, yet South Dakota State will have to wait until March 17 to find out where it fits into the WNIT bracket.

At a minimum, the Jackrabbits will have gone 15 days between games the next time they take the floor, which is even longer than last year.

It's almost like preparing to play in a football bowl game.

"Overall the break is really good," coach Aaron Johnston said. "I think playing in a conference and having such meaningful games in January and February is really exciting, but it's also a lot more of a grind - in a good way. You have to be on edge for an extended period of time and that wears on all of us."

Nonetheless, the Jackrabbits (23-6) are better for wear than most. None of them play even 29 minutes per game and only one - senior guard Andrea Verdegan - ranks in the top 30 in the conference in minutes played.

Could we take yellow towels/shirts in to the WNIT and swing them like the Pittsburg Terrible towels for the game? Kind of like the balloon idea I guess.

                              Re: Women's NIT 2008

Here is the latest from Terry in his latest blog post:

                              ....

With three days left before the postseason, the SDSU women's basketball team has the best composite ranking of the nine teams that have secured automatic bids to the WNIT. However, that will soon change because the region is stacked.

Here is some of what you, Joe Jackrabbit, want to have happen prior to Selection Monday:

Minnesota lives up to the ESPN.com projection and makes the NCAA tournament as the final at-large bid. Not that the Jacks couldn't beat the Gophers (remember last year?), but they would likely play in a fairly early round due to proximity and probably not at Frost Arena.

Wisconsin-Green Bay wins the Horizon League tournament. The Phoenix are in the top 50 and draw fairly well. Nobody else in the conference is close to SDSU in terms of rank.

Chalk in the Missouri Valley. Illinois State is the favorite and has the highest ranking by more than 20 places, but Drake, Creighton and Evansville are all in the top 85. Another Mo Valley matchup is very possible for the Jacks, who beat the Redbirds in last year's second round.

Montana tops the Big Sky. The Griz are 10 spots behind SDSU, but draw exceptionally well at home. Nobody else in the conference could pull a game away from Frost Arena.

UW-Green Bay got smoked by Cleveland State in the Horizon Conference semifinals, 90-66, likely sending the Phoenix (along with their top 50 RPI and solid attendance) to the WNIT.
