For what it's worth, in the "old days" the announced crowd sizes in Frost Arena were guesstimates. There was no way to track the actual number of people attending the games. The turn styles did not have counters and the Ticket Office did not count ticket sales in real time. The technology didn't exist to scan tickets or student IDs. For the Cal-State Hayward game, the announced crowd was an accurate figure since it was an NCAA game and gate receipts had to reflect the actual number of tickets sold. Also, in the "old days", there were "bragging rights" involved (recruiting, attendance figures) and it was important to thump both Augustana and USD on the court and the box office.
