  • SDSU & USD WBB since the D-1 transition reflect my starting point: South Dakota GBB to D-1 WBB success is rare. SD produces on average one D! starter per year. Maybe less. in the prior 4 years, Burckhard, Timmer, and Selland. Lifting the programs above and beyond Summit League blowouts requires more than a single SD player/year. Which brings me to the point about SD's lower numbers who transition to D-1 success.

Unless & until, SD GBB summer ball participation closes on MN, NE, IA, WI, & (maybe) ND, SD HS GBB in-season participation will drop further AND the original propositon above stands. Fewer summer touches by fewer GBB/MS players means more non-SD recruits. (( BTW, Koupal is on the All Iowa Attack, as was Ciera Duffy. Gylten, Timmer, & Ross went to North Tartan.))

Sioux Falls Sanford trained five great prospects* for SDSU in the class of 2024, all East River kids. Rapid City Sports Commission announced an aggressive buidling plan, not yet funded, for youth sports. Need to build skill levels thru more competitions or accept the Summit League do-waa-diddy. Time, focus, and money are all in the equation.

*Denotes questions over roster mgnt in 2024-25 - was it same-old scheme?

I would think Maggie didn’t transfer here to come off the bench. Just going off of her numbers from her first 2 seasons in a comparable/better conference I think she has to start and Ellie comes off the bench.

Not trying to be arse in any way. Just throwing out my opinion. It’s not like the forum is overrun with posts!

My bad - I was properly corrected months ago and still messed it up.

I would expect that she will slot right into Byom's spot. Not as tall, but she should compliment Brooklyn really well.

                • We all hope that MH (Maggie Hartwig) has talents/skills close to our previous inbound transfers, Haley Greer & Dru Gylten.
SDSU WBB is an order-of-magnitude difference in competitiveness and expectations.
                  Massey Rating: #311 Evansville earned 7-25 & 4-28 records.
Massey Rating: #37 SDSU earned records of 27-6 & 30-4.
Our roster depth largely remains intact - 3 seniors, MH is a Jr, and 9 players are younger - and hungry for PT after watching success after success.
Fire breathing, intensely focused, and full-tilt competitive - pre-season practices would be so fun to witness.

MH joins the fun now - game on

Valid points, I hope she is a difference maker though. I think she is.

Looking at things from a different angle, Hartwig likely was constantly double-teamed being the best player on a bad team. Now she gets to play off of Brooklyn who constantly attracts the double teams. Plus playing alongside three other players who all have the ability to score. With some ball movement, there should be plenty of good looks to be had.

                      • Abby Hoselton not Abby Holscher on the chart?

                        • I would expect Hartwig to be a big contributor this season. She had to be a center of attention at Evansville. It is also expected that we might see a true freshman as a contributor. Abdouch may be the favorite to pick up where Paige left off. How will Vasecka be placed in the lineup? The coaching staff will have the luxury of a deep and competitive bench. Happy 4th of July!
