SDSU & USD WBB since the D-1 transition reflect my starting point: South Dakota GBB to D-1 WBB success is rare. SD produces on average one D! starter per year. Maybe less. in the prior 4 years, Burckhard, Timmer, and Selland. Lifting the programs above and beyond Summit League blowouts requires more than a single SD player/year. Which brings me to the point about SD's lower numbers who transition to D-1 success.
Unless & until, SD GBB summer ball participation closes on MN, NE, IA, WI, & (maybe) ND, SD HS GBB in-season participation will drop further AND the original propositon above stands. Fewer summer touches by fewer GBB/MS players means more non-SD recruits. (( BTW, Koupal is on the All Iowa Attack, as was Ciera Duffy. Gylten, Timmer, & Ross went to North Tartan.))
Sioux Falls Sanford trained five great prospects* for SDSU in the class of 2024, all East River kids. Rapid City Sports Commission announced an aggressive buidling plan, not yet funded, for youth sports. Need to build skill levels thru more competitions or accept the Summit League do-waa-diddy. Time, focus, and money are all in the equation.
*Denotes questions over roster mgnt in 2024-25 - was it same-old scheme?
