This was my thinking all along as well. Imagine if you are the #1 seed and suddenly have to play the #12 seed in front of 10,000 of their fans. Hearing tcoach VanDerveer question the decision surprised me. She is obviously very knowledgeable and respected. Maybe there was a chance the committee would have let it happen.

Hopefully VanDerveer gets a vote in the coaches poll next year. I'm pretty confident she will include SDSU after last night. Others would follow if the team takes care of business. We need to start high in order to finish (really) high.

I agree with MontanaRabbit about this being quite different than the turnover after the first Round of 32 appearance. After that year we had to replace the best player in program history (USD will see what that is like next year). After this year we need to replace two very solid defensive specialist bench players and our (possibly) new "best player in history" will only be a junior. The talent will be there, we'll need the dedication to match, as well as a little luck.

Also did that prior to the Jacks vs U of Miami, except it was the Notre Dame game that was going on prior to our tip off.

Getting way,way ahead, after next year we have some big losses again in Kerri Young and Clarissa Ober, got to start the development of the "new generation" of players to replace these two very talented seniors ...to be, for their positions upon their graduating. So, the development process will be going on strong next year too.The p-5 teams get a lot of plug and play players that don't need as much development time. That explains why they get such huge margin of victory wins early against teams that have to give more time to developing players through out the year.Add to that a very hard OOC schedule ,and even less time can be given out for developing players if you want to possibly win or at least give a good accounting of one's self.Always a little harder road to hoe for the lil' ole mid-major

I think most fans thought the next two years would be where we would make this type of run. The experience our young starters gained in the tournament will be huge over the next two seasons.

I was thinking this too after the initial denial and feelings of being "robbed" wore off a little,we did give them too many opportunities to make that come back.Surprising how a day later can clear one's mind a little.Basketball is subject to the ref's opinion,no getting around that.Always has been, always will be.Learn and adapt, that's the logical thing to do.The four year clock is ticking for the learning process to evolve. That's not a whole lot of time really, having a RS fr in Graettinger and a veteran transfer in Wade should help a lot, besides the underclassmen who have gained some valuable experience this last yr.

I get that people are upset that we were "only" a 12 seed, but the truth is, a 12 or 13 seed is probably our best chance of getting to the sweet 16 unless we can make the big jump and get a #4 or 5.

With a #12 you get a #5 and a #4 for your first two games, however if you get a #7, like did back in 2009, you are stuck playing against the #2 seed in your second game on their home floor.

Prestige aside, #12-#13 is probably our best bet for getting to the next round.

Thanks, that's a little better than average write up of your typical WBB program icon vs lil ole mid-major game.Lots of nice complimentary comments made regarding our beloved "Jackrabbits".

I'm a little undecided who to root for in the ND vs Stanford game coming up.We lost to both teams, but Stanford loss was much closer. McGraw was very complimentary toward us, but so was VanDerveer.I'm going with Stanford,as I think them going on to the final four, should they advance that far, would look a little better for the team next year.Plus they're the underdog and I'm a softy for always rooting for the underdog.

This is exactly what I thought when the seedings come out this year. I would rather be underseeded because we are just a mid-major rather than play against a top 8 team in your second game. Unless of course we do make the big jump up to a #4 and get to host.

But in order to get that good of seed we are going to have make it to the sweet sixteen regularly and consistently be ranked in the top 20 for the next couple of years to realistically get that seed whether we are deserving or not. You don't see midmajors get to host the first two rounds, so if we want to get to that point we have to win a lot of big time games for the next couple years. Then maybe we will get one.

It just seems that the offensive ineptitude of our bench finally caught up to us. I'm really surprised we were able to win 5 post season games with a bench that shot 19% over the course of the 5 games (14-72). Next year hopefully Wade can bring us some much needed offensive output from the bench. If a couple of other players can improve and give us some scoring punch of the bench we have the talent to have a special year next year.
The Stanford bench only scored 5 points, which was the same as the Jacks. To me, the biggest problem with the bench was not having a big that AJ was willing to go to in big games. In the USD championship game, plus the two NCAA games Flaata played a total of 6 minutes and Mieras did not play. That forced the Jacks to play a 5'9" guard at the 4 spot for 20 plus minutes a game. That worked during the regular season, but hurts against the better teams that have some size. Having Wade next year should go a long way to help with this, but one of the back-up posts is going to have to step up their game as well. Or the 6'3" post recruit coming in might contribute right away.

At least at 6'3' the new recruit might be able to help protect the rim right away.I can only hope that we can start getting our posts heading in the direction to being as athletic and mobile as Ober is before she departs due to graduating after next year is over,as much as they can anyway. We need good post play to compliment our outstanding guard play.

I agree with this. Honestly, when it came to defense and rebounding, if Ober was out, we were in big trouble. I like Thompson's potential, but she needs to improve on the boards, and especially on offense with her back to the basket. When she can face the basket, she is great at getting good looks because she's pretty athletic for her size and can go around some of the other team's bigs, but there were a lot of times last night where she backed into it and threw up some junk and looked very uncomfortable.

that makes losing Stevens a little harder too. She could have filled that role at the 4 spot some. she was what 6 foot? plus her offense would have been much better then Boevers. well, such is life.
