That Seekamp is very good. I thought she would be trying out for the WNBA, but she technically had a year left and asked for it. Can we contain her in Vermillion and SF?

does she put together a complete game? don't really follow the yotes that closely, but, i did watch a couple of the games this year and in each of those games she didn't really show up in the first half---don't believe she even put up many shots. then, cut it loose in the second half and took over.

anyway, i don't think the jacks have that "lock down" defensive player. not sure many teams do. just have to limit her "open" looks---which they didn't do a very good job of sunday. got to be a team effort and communicate.

btw, no surprise here, but, charlie creme has yotes in, and jacks out. quite a ways to go yet, and, will be plenty of changes for teams around and near that "bubble" area.

IMO, one of the bigger factors in the game, which we were well aware of, but seldom mention is that we have a young team that doesn't have that one or two go-to seniors who are better prepared to handle close games. Gabby and Chloe are our seniors, and they do a great job in their roles coming off the bench.

But Seekamp (and her three fellow senior starters) was the guiding light for their team when it came down to the end. We had her contained in the first half and she missed some shots, but the second half showed how much she means to that team. I'm not convinced she is any better than Macy Miller, but game experience and maturing skills can make a difference. Having said that, I will just say that a 20-1 record against the Yotes here since 1990 is pretty remarkable, and believing that streak would never end would be short-sighted. If they were going to do it...this would have been the year given their senior-laden lineup.

I'd like to discuss the concept of leadership. What is it exactly? Is it that necessary to give someone the title of "being the leader",and burden them with the added responsibility?Weighing them down with the added pressure of having to carry a team on your back ,game after game, when the going gets tough?

To me,leadership is obtained through hard work and earning the respect and admiration of your fellow teammates. It's someone who voluntarily goes out and shows ,through example, how to get the most out of your God-given talents, and therefore inspiring, your teammates to do the same.

The leader shows humility by taking little of the credit, but takes most of the blame. The leader is the one who willingly works the hardest to claim the victory. The leader of the team is not anointed to the title, but rather assumes that role when he/she exhibits these quality's and teammates therefore willingly follow. The leader is usually the one who is most noticed when they are missing from being on the court.

Other than that, they are still only one of five players on the court. They can't do it all,not without help, although they would surely try,and without complaint.

Seekamp is special in that she's an incredible distributor but knows she has the ability to take over a game. Take Sunday for example. She tried getting her teammates involved but the shots just weren't falling. She then went on a 6-0 run by herself and hit shot after shot down the stretch. I'm in no way calling her LeBron James on a talent level, but her play-style reminds me of LeBron.

If you are a great player, sometimes your teammates get in the way. Classic example I saw was the Miller twins, Kelly and Coco, of Mayo HS, were down by 15 or so going into the 4th. The twins basically played 2 on 5 for the rest of the game and won handily against crosstown rival John Marshall HS. Late 90's. Both of them played in the WNBA for over a decade. One of their teammates(name?) went to SDSU for softball. Another teammate had transferred from Watertown, SD and had the rare honor of winning a state title in 2 states. SD & MN

That might be true in HS,but at the collegiate level, you need more help than playing 2 on 5.You'll lose against all but the worst teams, and that's only when you play well, don't have an off night or anything that hampers you from performing at peak level. That's just my opinion, now if you have three, four, or all five really good talented players playing at a different position, that gives you lots better odds that some will play well enough to cover for the ones having a rough go at it.Besides,if you are that great of a player, you'll probably be on a team you don't have to worry about your teammates getting in the way, you'll be glad you have them.
