Nothing happening down in Yankton yet. Anything in Fargo? It seems the more the weather man talks about it the less it happens. I guess we will see. Great win for the Jacks, WNIT should be calling.

Good crowd tonight 4100 roughly, and listen to Amy Ruley post game show. She feels she does not have suffient depth to run with the Rabbits.
She also commented that it was a great crowd.

Just got home from the game. I hung around outside the arena and I wasn't alone. I would guess there were 300 or 400 people waiting and standing in lines to thank the players who were all out there talking to people. Watching our team sign autographs and pose for pictures with literally hundreds of little kids is really something special. Talk about great ambassadors for SDSU. We're really lucky to have such a great group of young women representing our institution the way they do.
            Holy nutmeg!

                Re: NDSU Game Thread

I was at the game and stood with a couple friends right above the Bison family section, trading some good-natured ribbing back and forth. A 39-5 run after the Bison were within seven was the difference. Vogel hit a couple threes back-to-back and a close game became a rout. Courtney had her first double-double and our overall attack was quite balanced with five players scoring in double figures.

The crowd was loud and appreciative with the weather likely keeping hundreds of fans away. (The attendance was just one person higher than the men's game against NDSU.)

I think that SDSU and NDSU will consistently be the elite teams in the Mid-Con starting next season. I know that Ruley has been through a rough stretch, but I'm convinced that they will get back on track and will be our constant obstacle for a NCAA berth.

Back home after the game. Just wind so far in Brookings for weather. I wish the very best for Megan as her career winds down, hopefully with a WNIT bid. I thanked her Dad for sharing his daughter with us for the last 4 years. He spoke highly of SDSU and thanked all of us for treating Megan like a daughter. Megan had 17 points tonight including the 3's when we broke the game open. Her playing time was limited in the first half when she picked up her second foul and she also lost some time early in the second half with her 3rd foul, which came on absolutely the worst call I have ever seen at Frost. If that wasn't a blocking foul, then there is no such thing and all contact is a charge. I think what it caused the team to do was open up a can of Whooppass and finish the Bison off. Good luck next week-end and in the WNIT. Courtney had one of her best games ever as a Jack. She had a double double and must have been close on blocks also.

And I think the first round of the WNIT begins just two days after that.

                      Re: NDSU Game Thread

That was a fun night at Frost Arena! A very nice, vocal crowd for a wintery night!

That was the perfect way to see the regular season career of Megan Vogel end!

Also, a very nice tribute to Nancy Neiber at halftime!

The comment above fro Ruley about lack of depth is what struck me as the difference in the game. NDSU gave us their best shots to start both halves but once they started to wear down the Jacks flat-out dominated the game!

Always good to put one on the Bison women and Ruley! It took so many years to get over the hump and beat them back in the NCC.

Loved the cheer "Thank you Megan!" at the end of the game!

Great job ladies! Thanks, Megan for everything that you have done for SDSU! It has been a pleasure to get to watch you on the court and even more to get to know you off of it! All the best for your bright future AFTER A FEW MORE GAMES!

                      Let the WNIT hype begin!

BROOKINGS - Like the journey to get there, Megan Vogel's final regular season game at Frost Arena was not easy.

South Dakota State's lone senior didn't hit from the field during the first 17 minutes against North Dakota State and, by then, her team's 18-point edge cut to seven, the Jacks desperately needed something, anything.

It started with a 3-pointer - and a fist pump - from the left wing. Then another 3 from the right wing and a backpeddling fist pump. By the time Vogel hit her third triple of the half, everything had been decided but the final score - which wound up 86-51 - and she could only smile.

There were enough tears on this night: in the locker room, during a pre-game ceremony, when she left the floor - a season-high crowd of 4,132 chanting "Thank you, Megan" - and during the postgame news conference.

It was an emotional night for an emotional player.

Vogel, second on the school's career scoring list and the only player left from the program's NCAA Division II days, bid adieu to Frost Arena with 17 points and a promise: "This isn't the last time I'm going to play on the Frost Arena floor - maybe during the regular season," she said. "There's no question we're going to get it done."

Ranked as high as 28th in the national polls, it is widely believed that the Jackrabbits (21-5), winners of 10 in a row, will earn a bid to the WNIT and, potentially, host a game - if they win their final two games, that is. And in spite of a raucous crowd, Friday's outcome was in doubt for much of the night. . . . (read more)

Not much different from what is posted, but I believe the NCAA is on Sunday, March 11, and the WNIT is on Monday, March 12, and the first round games start March 14 through March 16, with the second round games March 16-18. I think we might get a first-round bye. Not sure I wouldn't just as soon play to keep things going.

I'm pretty sure we will be getting a first round bye. I've heard that the WNIT gets split into three teirs of 12 teams. The top 12 teams get a first round bye. I'd have to say we are a lock for a bye if we win our two game next week.

Senior night was Megan Vogel's night. Vogel, SDSU's lone senior and arguably the best player ever to put on the yellow and blue, led the team to an 86-51 victory over border rival North Dakota State University.

The Jacks did get through the emotion and concluded the last regular season home game on an extremely high note, claiming their 21st victory for the season, with only five loses, and their 10th win in a row. The Bison dropped to a 12-11 mark on the season.

In the first half, SDSU used a wide variety of players to force the Bison into poor shots, holding NDSU to only 27 percent from the floor. The Lady Jacks took advantage of sloppy ball handling, and late first half foul trouble by the Bison, to hold a 17-point lead at the end of the half.

The Bison stormed out of the locker room on fire. NDSU went on an 11-0 run, with Lisa Bue making back-to back buckets, cutting the Jacks lead to seven with 13:15 left in the game. The Jackrabbits then stepped on the gas, leaving the Bison deep in the rear view mirror.
I get a kick outta the end of this line
The students showed their love for Vogel by chanting one of their many "thank you Megan" cheers, and one male student even asked Vogel for a date while she was waiting to enter the game.

What a wonderful environment that was Friday night at Frost Arena. I look forward to the men's team getting back to that level of fan enthusiasm. Congrats to the Jack women. What a great young team. And, of course, "thank you, Megan!"
