What I want to know is:  Why can't women be called "Trojans?"  I mean really, weren't there any females living in the ancient Greek city of Troy?  There were female Athenians, weren't there?  Athena herself was female--as in goddess, right?  Seems pretty sexist to me to call the USC men's teams the "Trojans" and then demean the women's teams with the appelation "Women of Troy" doesn't it?  Why not "Trojans" for all of USC's teams?  It's good enough for "Jackrabbits" isn't it?

OK, I'll just go to bed now . . .
Good point. Why can't Pierre Riggs High School girls' teams be called the "Governors" instead of the "Lady Governors"? [/quote]

have never liked the term "Lady" in front of a sports teams name. I was always gald that we are the Jackrabbits!

    Go State!

Born, raised and now attending college in Brookings, South Dakota State University student Nick Hartley called tonight's women's basketball game against the University of Southern California - yes, that USC - at Frost Arena "the first big-time event," in his 16 years as a Jackrabbits fan.

The campus must be buzzing, right?

      "It's about average," he said.

I don't know if I'd go quite that far but it is for sure the first major D-1 basketball and a huge opportunity to put SDSU, yeah this SDSU, on the map in women's basketball!

        Good luck ladies!

Less than 8 hours til the game.  Being on campus there is a little more buzz in the Union about the game.  Business is picking up.  A full house could be likely.  I'm Ready.  Are you?

I'm with SUPERBUNNY, not sure I'd call this the first big time event, then again to each his own. Definately an exciting day for the program and SDSU athletics as a whole.  Honestly wish I could be at the game to watch a PAC 10 team fall to the Jacks, but I'll have to wait until January to watch them drop a Big 10 team on the road (Minnesota).

Good luck to the "Lady" Jacks.

              Re: USC Game

I simply meant this was the first big time event at Frost in my life time. Even bigger than USD games, tournament games and even bigger than NDSU games in the recent past. This game means more than all those. Ever since I was a little Junior Jack I dreamt of major schools visiting and playing at SDSU. This is our first shot.

Like I said, to each his own. If this is what you envisioned growing up, well then the time has come for your dream to come true. I think that's great. Should be a fun night for everyone involved (players, coaches, fans, and staff). Like I said before, wish I could be there to witness the beatdown.

Where are all the USC fans by the way? Are they too good to grace us with their presence? Don't we need a little smack directed at the Trojanette's and their fan base. Any Matt Leinart related smack to be tossed out?

                  Re: USC Game

I did hear downtown that Abby Kratchovil(sp) has her army coming to the game. Bennett County lost yesterday in the 1st round of the state Vball tourney up in Watertown, so all of the B.C. folks are coming to Frost.

                    Re: USC Game

This may not be the most memorable event for SDSU (as others have said, to each his/her own), but let's face it, this will be by far the most prestigious athletic team to come to Brookings and play in Frost Arena. I've been attending or keeping up with SDSU athletics for the past 54 years and at no time would I have thought that a team ranked in the top 20 in Division 1 in any sport, would come and play at SDSU.

And the "real" story is that we got them to come! It is possible this will happen again, unless we ascend into the clouds to our own top 20 ranking, and/or one of our close neighbors gets ranked that high (and maybe not even then.)

And I can guarantee you that if we beat the Women of Troy tonight, there will be very few takers among D-1 Top 20 teams who will agree to a home and home. So enjoy!!!

Whoops. Make that "not probable" instead of possible in my previous post above (read your copy again, you dumb journalist!)

I am pumped and ready to go. It is time to make the crosstown journey up to Frost Arena and watch the Jacks defeat the USC Trojanettes. I hope I see all my friends and neighbors at the game.

Wish I could be there, but I've gotta work tomorrow morning.   Got the broadcast on the computer and some brats going on the grill.  Not a bad evening.  ;D

I recall that back when I was in school the Gopher wrestling team came to the old barn and went home with a loss.  That was an important Jackrabbit win.
                          Probably the '70-'71 season.

Can someone post the link to the broadcast.....I can't get it on the radio and I can't find anything on the big country site.
                            Thanks.

Announcer said they are pushing 4,000 fans in Frost tonight. Wish I could be there.
