    Re: Middle Tenn State

South Dakota State is in the 3rd year of a 5 year transition to DI from DII. We won't be eligibile for postseason competition (other than wrestling and volleyball) until the 2008-2009 season. Basketball teams are eiligible for the NIT tourney however, which the women should have an excellent chance of making this year.

Again, I was at the game and your ladies really didn't apply much defensively.  We shot like 31%.  That's not because of defense.  That's because of poor shot selection.[/quote]

      FG% by opponents this season.
      Middle Tenn - 30.8%
      USC - 32.8%
      SWMU - 33.3%
      Virginia - 36.8%
      Baylor - 43.1%
      Ark St. - 35.3%
      Long Beach St. - 27.1%
      Kansas - 36.0%
      Southern Ill. - 40.4%
      Colorado - 38.0%

Notice any trends here? Only 2 teams all season have been able to make over 40% for a game, Middle Tennesee may have had poor shot selection, but give some credit where credit is due, this is a good defensive team.

Ignorance is bliss. Don't give credit where credit is due and losses amount to even more than that. SDSU came into your place and beat your team. Facts are facts. I'd be a little worried about a coach making players understand the need to learn from losses as well as wins when she can't admit they were beaten. Pretty darn weak in my estimation.

I will call you out on our ladies not applying much defensively. I have not missed a home game since A.J. has been the head coach and I have been to a number of road games as well and the one constant that is always there is our ladies applying constant pressure and being up in ther grille as they say.

That reminds me of something. I've had a burning question ever since I saw your team sitting on our sideline. Is there a diversity problem at South Dakota State?

Nope. We have lots of diversity at SDSU. Perhaps it's not as evident as some schools, but one has to realize that Brookings is less diverse than your type American city.

Hey, it's very diverse. There's probably four or five different Scandanavian nationalities represented on the SDSU squad, not to mention a couple of Germans and maybe some English and Irish as well!

Could read a lot of things into a statement like that. A little advice, think before you post. Until you can figure that out keep your fingers off the keyboard. Most here are proud supporters of SDSU. Humble, honest, and dare I say caring for others. Don't discredit the efforts of our athletes, coaches and institution is some hope of bolstering your wavering ego. I don't welcome suggestions like yours. Keep thoughts like that to yourself.

I suppose you could say the same thing about the University of Nebraska women's Volleyball team as well.

                          Re: Middle Tenn State

We do have a diversity problem at SDSU. As Al Branum, head of the Office of Diversity has said, when he started his job he knew that SDSU is a majority white campus. As head of the Office of Diversity, it has become clear to him that SDSU is an overwhelmingly white campus. It's a common problem in the upper midwest and is not unique to SDSU. And it's a problem that is recognized from the highest levels of administration right down into every classroom. Everyone on campus is working very hard to improve the situation, with good results.

But this discussion has nothing to do with athletics or the racial makeup of our women's team and it's pretty obnoxious that BlueRaiderPride would bring it up in this context. Your team lost to ours. You've got a good team. We've got a good team. What's the problem?

The demographics have alot to play in diversity.  I'm not suggesting SDSU is a racist school.  As one of our fans pointed out to me at the game, you won't find many other races in South Dakota.  It's South Dakota.  It's close to Canada.  Unless you're winning and have a tradition of winning that potential recruits will like, it's going to be very hard to recruit to South Dakota, because it's South Dakota.  Honestly, what is South Dakota (as a state) known for other than the Black Hills or Mount Rushmore (which may be in North Dakota)? I think alot of recruits are not only attracted to the school, but also what the area has to offer with which that school is located.

Besides, I believe that was the last time we'll play SDSU anyways hopefully.  Even though ya'll are pretty good, I'd rather us play a team that people respect like a Duke or UConn--nothing against you guys.  I'm sure you feel the same way about us.  Beating up on each other isn't going to help us get an edge on the upper echolon.  It's just going to pull both down.
