I'll have to find it, but if you notice the seating chart for Cameron, visiting team seating is behind the visiting team bench.

Turns out it's a conference rule, not an NCAA rule.

I just have to say that I think the students have, at several of the more "interesting" games, created a great atmosphere at Frost this year. I suspect we'll see nice student crowds for NDSU and USD, too. I think the improvement of the men's team will continue to pay dividends on student attendance. We had 3,000+ students at a couple of football games this year. No reason why we can't expect 1,500 students for basketball eventually, particularly as the team improves.

I was gonna point this out... I was the ring leader of the cowbell section in that area the year prior to joining the then mid-con. they have also prohibited noisemakers.. specifically cowbells.

For a fact (i've done the resurch)this ruling is imposed by the athletic dept.

I would like to add we never got a T for ringing our bells during gameplay, as it was not allowed.. but I'll be dammed if the other teams wanted to go to another time-out and have those loud bells in their ears the whole time..
eventally they mooved their time-outs to half court.

many a coach complained but the ref's explained ther was no rule against use of noisemaker during non game play...(this is how the NCAA words it)
man were we loud! (and right behind the bench)
if you were there you remember..

they (the athletic dept.) took our fun away for the WNIT and never gave it back!!!!
you now rarely see me at frost because of this.

You should come back more often. It's fun even without the bells.

I looked in the NCAA regs about this and couldn't find anything. If its there the way around it is like they do at Oakland Univ. They have their socalled Bears Den right behind the visitors bench. This is the student section and band and they get loud. Immediately behind the visitors bench are two rows marked off for visiting team family members. The band is in the corner end zone around 20 feet from the bench and play at every timeout

I think this was my fundamental point in starting the thread.

The only thing that Frost really needs to be a snakepit is the active participation of the student body, showing up, making noise, being active and having fun.

Yeah, there's griping from the "sit down" bunch about the students standing during the game . . . I just want the students to know that not all of us fuddy-duddies feel that way. Heck, if enough students show up, you can all stand all the way up to the cinder block wall in the upper deck and there wouldn't be any killjoys behind you at all. Now wouldn't THAT be impressive?

I wish we would do this. Move the band to the other end, reserve about 2 rows behind the visitors bench.

This (the three-row-behind-visitor's-bench) and the noisemakers are Summit League rules.

For NCAA sponsored events (basically the tournament) they also ban artificial noisemakers, but for regular season games, it's basically up to the conferences to set the rules.

Not sure if this has been mentioned. I think they should move the student section to the two areas behind the hoops and extend the seats all the way to the floor. This will give the students great seats for the game but also open up more seats for lower level season tickets.

Pretty sure part of the reason the don't extend to the floor has to do with regulations regarding distance of seats from the end of the court so I don't think that is an option.

Thanks for the feedback. I was curious how many rows are required for the visiting team.

Exactly! Put wild ass students in the ends in the old bleachers. Put elevated chair backs in the south upper deck for reserved seats. That shift would get the reserved, more expensive seating for cash flow and put the intimidation factor(students) where they belong in the face of the visitor.

Disagree. Well, agree about the goodness of students on the lower ends, but disagree about moving them from the south side. Go read the article in the post that started this thread for why . . .

I absolutely disagree with moving the students. WE add to the atmosphere and the seats behind the baskets are not quality seats. SDSU is a college because of students. If there were no students there would be no sports at SDSU. That is a simple fact. You can talk about how much more u pay for season tickets, but the fact is we are the reason for a college.
