He can go past most with EITHER hand and his head up. If we had a little more versatile big guys Nate would be even more potent. I think they are on their way.

I think that we have only seen the tip of the iceberg when it comes to Nate's talent. Right now he is more of a "creator" in the offense. With guys like Clint, Kai, and crew he doesn't really need to be a scorer. Right now he is getting a good majority of his points from the line mixed in with the occasional three or drive.

When he matures a little more and maybe becomes more of a leader on this team, then we will see just how good he can be. IMO, if he continues to evolve his game like he has been, we will be talking about him in some rarified Jackrabbit air.

First thing I thought when I saw him play was that he didn't look nearly quick enough to be a D1 point guard and that he had a low release point on his shot. But man can he break people down off the dribble. His crossover is nasty and he definitely is faster than he looks. And he somehow gets his shot off too. I love watching him play. He's probably my favorite player besides Kai.

          Re: Nate Wolters...

I will have to finally get my 2 cents in. Watching the NDSU game I thought Nate seemed like the best defensive player we had. standing out on top guarding man to man needs a little attention but get him move around and you never know how its going to knock the ball lose or get a steal.

Needs to work on the Offense a bit, but as a freshman he is not afraid to take shots and make plays. Some worked and some didn’t. For NDSU Zastrow was only good shooting a deep 3. Wolters was very good trying to drive, and fast breaks and such. When I thought others were to afraid to take the shot, even though they should have been Nate was not.

Also Feigen must feel awful about missing that free throw but he should not blame himself. He was put in a difficult situation and did ok, loved seeing his disappointment on the side line, now let me explain. Other players on the team now and years past would have just given up and hung their heads. Tony was mad at him self and I see that as a positive sign for the future. He will not accept mediocrity.

I like what I saw from Wolters and the future is looking brighter every day.

Wolters' defense on Saturday was tremendous. And the fact that Fiegen was mad at himself when he missed that free throw (he slammed the chair during the timeout) just makes me like him even more. We need that kind of fire.

Exactly, NDSU has some good freshman but so do we, I like how competitive this rivalry is, just wish we were more on the winning end. Wolters missed a few shots and I feel made a few mistakes but he I felt had the best game. The only play i felt he was not good on but its not just him, the whole team was, the 3 Zastrow hit. he could have slid over to content the shot but was just turning their heads to watch him shoot. Sargent shooting is great as usual but Wolters has a lot to look forward to for his career. The seniors righted the ship, if righted is a word. The underclassman are now in position to take from a winning program to a top mid major and top confrence contender now.

                Re: Nate Wolters...

Wolters did have a good game defensively. Actually the team as a whole got a lot of steals. The one thing this year that you didn't see in the past was players staying out of foul trouble in the first half. How many times in the past years did we have 1 or 2 of our main players sitting on the bench with 2 and sometimes 3 fouls in the first half? It happened a lot. The guys are getting in better defensive positions this year. With this much talent on the team, how did they only score 5 field goals in the first half? That is what really lost the game (and I'm actually surprised the Jacks were in the game with that stat).
Over? Did you say "over"? Nothing is over until we decide it is! Was it over when the Germans bombed Pearl Harbor? Hell no!--Bluto--

                  Re: Nate Wolters...

He is a bit green, but man I was impressed in my first game I've seen. Next year, he may be that leader of a point guard that SDSU hasn't had since the transition.

There were a few bad decisions, but overall his performance compensated for it. He was always around they ball and had many nice steals. I was more dissapointed in decisions by the veterans on drives and forced shots.

On a weird totally unrelated note, did anyone else notice that NDSU did not take any shots from the left side? Even at the end they passed up open looks, the only one I remember was a late 3.

"Wolters is very good and would be a good player in the Summit League. Different strengths than Felt. Wolters an ideal big strong PG with good athleticism and Felt can flat out stroke it but can't create his own at the DI level yet. Either one of these two would be a very good get for the Jacks. Don't think either player could be considered a "fall-back" guy."

"It really doesn't make much difference who is recruiting him. If the SDSU staff thinks he can help them win games, then hopefully they get him. It is this "who else is recruiting him?" mentality that has hurt the Jacks in their recruiting over the past few years.

This part of the country is the least saturated DI area outside of the desert SW so the fact that there will be less DI recruiting attention on many kids in this area is something the Jacks need to take advantage of. If the Wolters kid played on the East Coast, he would be inundated with Mid Major offers.

The bottom line is that there is less competition for the legit DI kids in this part of the country, so rather than going out and finding kids to recruit based solely on who else is recruiting them, find DI kids who can help you win games from this area and recruit them. Doesn't mean they don't recruit nationally, it means don't forget about your back yard.

Serious question, could an All-Star team from many DII leagues compete for a Summit League championship? In my humble opinion, yes, without question. SDSU is doing the right thing by recruiting Wolters and hopefully they get him."

I'm tooting my own horn because I'm right about 14% of the time (at most). The above posts were posted by me regarding Nate Wolters on the aforementioned dates.

                        Re: Nate Wolters...

I like Nate and he will be a star at SDSU but he sure has struggled shooting against NDSU. He was 3-10 @NDSU and 2-15 @SDSU. Hitting 5-25 isn't that good. He has had other games where he's shot better but not against them.
I really overlook some of the shooting numbers because of the other things he brings to the table. These numbers aren't exact but they are about what I can remember.
                        5 steals
                        6 rebounds
                        2 turnovers(only)
                        ? blocks
                        His defense is solid, too.

When the "Hoosiers" video came on toward the end of the IUPUI game tonight, it rang true to me that Nate Wolters, IS "Jimmy Chitwood". He is such a pure shooter and a natural talent. Should be fun for the next 3 years if we can put some athletes around him and get some help in the paint.

I don't know if you can label him as a pure shooter. He has a great set shot when he spots up but I don't think he is in Clint's category yet as a pure shooter.

But that isn't to take anything away from Nate. He is clearly awesome. I was impressed with his dribble penetration tonight and his tough D. What a talent.

Maybe more a natural talent. But watching him, he seems so effortless in doing "that thing he does". He has lapses on occassion, but you can't argue that physically he is dead on, Jimmy Chitwood. (haircut and all! and that's not a slam - just an observation!) Go Hoosiers - Go Jacks!!!
