    Re: Summit League Standings

    Thursday, January 29th Games

    Western Illinois 56 @ UMKC 51
    IPFW 70 @ SDSU 76
    Oakland 71 @ NDSU 81
    IUPUI 79 @ SUU 65

Can someone correct me if I am wrong on the tiebreaker please?

With the four way tie, I put Southern Utah ahead because of their win over Oakland.

I put SDSU and IUPUI ahead of Western Illinois because of their wins over Centenary.

Out of those, I took the head to head win by SDSU to put them in 6th and IUPUI in 7th.

Western Illinois lost to both of those teams so they come in 8th.

    If wrong, let me know.

Right now the important thing is no matter how the tie-breakers work we are in the top eight. If there are ties at the end of the season after everybody has played everybody twice the tie-breakers will be easier to calculate.

Six wins and you are in. But Jacks have a legitimate chance at nine and a fifth seed. Win tomorrow night and that is very possible.
Time to expect more than just getting by.

My expectations or rather hope was that they would more that squeak into the tourney. Not quite there yet but very possible.

Tiebreakers will still be important for seeding, but I think we all just want to be there.

Pomeroy currently predicts a 7-11 or 8-10 league finish, with Oakland and/or Centenary being close enough to go either way.

There are a lot of fascinating numbers on that page . . . his analysis might warrant a thread of its own.

                Games for Thursday, February 5th

So its looking like ORU and NDSU for 1 and 2 seed. WIU, IPFW and UMKC battling for the 8th spot. Everybody else in the running for the #3 seed but at risk to miss the tourney with a bad losing streak. I don't see WIU or UMKC making much of a run but I could be wrong. I think IPFW is a better team than either of them but I'm basing a lot of that on scores and little of that on proven fact.

I expect Oakland to finish strong, they have a talented and deep team. We have the schedule balanced against us so a 3 seed is a stretch. A win in Indiana on Thursday would be HUGE. I'll be fishing up at the Lake of the Woods so I'm going to need to phone call to find out the score.

I'm thinking we could get a number 6 seed thus avoiding NDSU until the finals.

Personally, I'd rather see NDSU in the Summit tournament before Oakland or ORU. I think we match up much better with the Bison and those other two teams scare me more.

I want SDSU to get a 4 or 5 seed and have a good opportunity to win a game and play the Bison in the second round. Can you imagine the Bison faithful if SDSU beat them out of the Summit Tourney!?

I don't care what seed we are! Let's just get in and go from there. Nobody including NDSU will want to play us in the tournament if we continue improving! Who knows what could happen with a "home court" atmoshpere in Sioux Falls.

I'm looking forward to getting that road gorilla off our back this week!

Win tomorrow will all but get the Jacks in the tourney, assuming they can win 1-2 more games. It would give us a 3 game advantage over WIU with the head to head tie breaker.

Lose tomorrow and... well maybe they should just win.

Looks like IPFW is going to beat Oral Roberts. That makes tonights game against Western even bigger. A loss puts us in a 3 way tie for that last spot, a win and depending on what IUPUI does, could put us in a tie for 4th place.
