So far, so good.
The South Dakota State University men’s basketball team closed out its preseason schedule with an 88-72 win over Dakota State at Frost Arena Sunday night, giving the Jackrabbits a 2-0 exhibition record.
Dakota State tied the score at two-all early in the game, but SDSU went on a 10-0 run and the score was never close again.
The Jacks shot 50 percent (36-for-72 ) from the field, and had five players (including a quartet of freshmen) score in double figures led by freshman Kai Williams, who recorded a double-double with 17 points and 11 rebounds. Williams awed the crowd early in the first half, as he caught an alley-oop pass from point guard Mackenzie Casey and flushed home a two-handed dunk.
Freshman Thomas Bassett also recorded a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and redshirt freshman Mark Engen just missed a double-double with 13 points and nine rebounds.
South Dakota State head coach Scott Nagy said he saw some improvement in his post players from SDSU’s first exhibition game on Oct. 31.
“They shot the ball well and rebounded the ball a lot better than they did the last game, and that’s what I was most pleased with,” Nagy said.
“They did not rebound the ball at all (in our game) against Southwest Minnesota State.”
SDSU Freshman Cam Hornby scored 11 points in the win, and sophomore Matt Cadwell finished with 10 points. . . . (read more)
