It should not be as close as 12 points at halftime.  It should be more like 20, at least.

(/reality check, but perhaps a little greedy)
Correct, especially to close the half, instead they make a 9-2 run and go into the locker room with their heads up, ready to compete in the second half. It comes down to on court leadership and intensity. We can find that, I am sure of it.

Eight turnovers vs. six for DSU. I cringe to see us with more turnovers than an NAIA team.

16-34, 47% isn't bad for field goal shooting. But DSU is 13-31, 41.9%. Our defense should be better than that, IMHO.

They're 3-6 from 3 point land. That's going to kill us again this year unless we can get a handle on how to defend against the 3.

Rebounds are 28-11 Jacks, so no complaints there.

Plenty for Nagy and the coaching staff to work on, I'd say.

(For perspective for those of you who in years past have attended Frost Arena games, I'm the guy who always shouted "There Goes The Shutout!!!" when the opposing team would score their first point. Some nights I was louder than others. It's really a tradition I'd love to see continued - - - how about it, Bluehatman?)

Eleven Jacks available to play tonight. That's better than nine, which is all we had against Southwest Minnesota. Assuming Callahan recovers from his broken hand in a month, we'll have 12. Is that enough? Maybe Brandon and Bilitz will become available. Hope so.

Bassett and Yackley pounding the boards. DSU still getting some open looks and knocking down the 3's. 13 point lead. Loney has 3 fouls.

Haven't heard Casey's name much - did something happen with him?

As long as we can keep the front line guys healthy, I think that will be enough. Brandon and Bilitz will add some much-needed depth but I have a good feeling about these guys--they just seem to me like more of a complete team somehow than what we've seen the past couple of years.

We'll see how they do against D-I competition, but I like how we've got a bunch of people, instead of just Cadwell, who really look to score this year.

59-43, things are pretty well in hand. Remember what our women did at this point? 15-0 run sounds good to me. There are the first 4. Bassett with 12 pts, 20 pt lead. Push it up.

Just something to think about for those who might be worked up by the point spread of our Ex. games  .  .  .  Louisville beat Georgetown College by 2, and Kansas State needed 3 OT to knock off Washburn.

He's been in for eight minutes so far. 0-1 with an assist and . . . 4 turnovers? That's probably why he's not playing much, I'd say.

The Jacks are a very young team, with alot of guys seeing their first college basketball action.  It will take them a little to gel, but I think they will do alright this year.

He's done better. Let's assume a bad night and look for better things in the regular season.

ah, I didn't reallize you could get individual stats except the "quick stats." That sure is a telling statistic.

3-pointer here, 3-pointer there, always seems like no matter who we are playing the 3's come easy for the opponent. Defend the arc and make them beat you with off the dribble. That would be my preference.

Of course, NDSU beat Wisconsin last year by packing it in and watching them miss repeatedly from outside. I think once you have a lead you need to shut the outside shot down.

They hit another one, that kid has 6 3's. If I'm guarding him he doesn't get another shot off. (maybe 10 years ago)

                              Need to guard the three.

                              77-64 Jacks.

We'll all need to re-calibrate our expectations. In the D-II days, we'd fatten up on the non-conference schedule and come into conference play with 10 wins or more. If that happens now that we're in D-I, we've got a shot at the Dance, baby!!! (Our non-conference schedule is guaranteed to be much more difficult than our in-conference schedule).

This year, if we make it to January with fewer than ten losses (i.e. 6-9) we will have done very, very well. 3-12 on Dec. 31 would be disappointing, but nothing to panic about. (Well, maybe a panic a little . . . ) I'm personally hoping for at least five wins by New Year's.

The schedule gets significantly softer after New Year's Day. We need to play at least .500 ball this season in 2007. The extent to which we go over .500 in the 15 games after New Year's will determine what we can expect from this team next year. If we finish .500 for the season, we're in very good shape for next year, I think.
