  • Re: 2008-09 Recruits

If you'd like to see White and Fiegen in action, they are playing Flandreau Indian School Friday night for the District 5A championship at Frost Arena. Game time is 6:30, barring some freak snowstorm!

Our 2009 Madison recruits (White and Fiegen) are headed to the state tournament:

Madison holds off Chargers in '3A' final
      Dave Martin • damartin@argusleader.com • March 5, 2008

Madison earned a measure of revenge against Sioux Falls Christian for an earlier defeat, and in the process won a trip to the Class A boys state tournament with a 53-41 victory in the Region 3A finals at the Elmen Center on Tuesday night.

It came down to superior firepower and an outstanding defensive effort by the Bulldogs (17-6).

Madison came out strong and battled to a 23-21 edge at halftime, and they increased it to a 10-point lead by the end of the third quarter. They then held the Chargers (16-7) at bay for the rest of the game.

      ......

The Chargers did have a slight edge in rebounds, 31 to 26, with Brady Velgersdyk and Nathan Ten Napel each hauling in six. For Madison, Tony Fiegen had 11.

The Bulldogs had good success taking the ball inside, with Fiegen and Chad White each leading the way with 12 points.

As they should be in my opinion. Any team with two legit D1 recruits should be just shy of dominating class 'A' basketball in SD. I'm actually a little surprised Madison hasn't had more success this year....even though I realize White hasn't been at full strength. I hope they have some success next weekend in Sioux Falls. We should all be able to get a good look at them as the 'A' tourney is being broadcasted I believe.

Anthony Davis was named 1st team Region XI this year. He finished the year averaging 14.1 ppg, 6.1 rpg, and 1.6 bpg. I hope this young man can add an inside threat that can score and defend.

Looks like James Rader ended the season playing really well and put up some great numbers this year.

            http://www.maxpreps.com/FanPages/Pla...07-08/Colorado

Averaged 18.0 pts, 9.1 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 1.7 blocks per game with 55% FG, 79% FT, and 41% 3P.

Another article with a pick of James here.

You can watch them play against Jared Vlastuin (sp?) from Lennox in the first round of the state playoffs Thursday night 7pm Central time on Public TV or at SDPTV.org.

I can't remember where Vlastuin is going but I thought it was to a Mo Valley school.

I believe Vlastuin is going to Drake. Davis and Radar look like very good recruits for the Jacks.

Jared Vlastiun is going to Drake. Same place as Amber Wollschlager from Milbank.

All games from all 3 tourneys are video streamed at www.sdpb.org . SD Public Television will broadcast all 12 games from the State A. They started doing that a couple of years ago.

Did anybody watch Madison play tonight? Fiegen had had an amazing game. The last play...WOW. Hauling in a long in-bounds pass with 2 seconds remaining, finding the backdoor cut, and hitting him in stride for the win. The kid can play and perform under pressure.

Agree 100%, Fiegen looked great facing the hoop. If he can develop some moves with his back to the basket he'll be even better. I felt bad when he missed the first FT when it was tied, but he hit the second and assisted on the winning play. Chad White is pretty darn good with the ball as well. Both are going to get bigger, stronger and better. I can't wait to see them in Jackrabbit unis.

I watched it on TV. Was very impressed with Fiegen, biggest surprise was his ball handling skills and his long range shot. I never knew he could stroke it like that, I think he had 3 three's and looked good shooting them. He and Fiegen are exactly the type of players that SDSU is going to need, 6'5" to 6'8" players who are athletic, can play multiple positions, and are threats from inside and out. Think Drake, Butler, Creighton, etc.

Both guys need to hit the weight room, but as juniors have plenty of time to do that yet before they get to SDSU.

You look at our roster in two years and who we'll have for depth at the 3-5 positions and we're looking at Tony Fiegen, Chad White, James Rader, Josh Cassaday, Griffan Callahan, Anthony Cordova, Clint Sargent, Kai Williams, and Mark Engen. Every one of those players is 6'4 to 6'10 and they can all shoot the three. If we can find a solid post to play the true 5 position (Anthony Davis?), I think we could have a pretty potent offense with the three ball being our strength rather than our downfall.

Fiegen had a heck of a game. He took over when Lennox started to pull away and he willed them to the win. White also had a good game with some foul trouble.

Madison won, scored at the buzzer. Agree with the posts I've read...Tony was awesome tonight. He is improving rapidly!

If you click on the that score, it then has Madison winning 66-64 with the box score from the game.
