So you guys are against getting some players from the innercity (i.e., African-American players)? Or are you against someone who is finding it difficult to support SDSU?

Why would anyone be against recruiting in the inner city( i.e. African-American players)? Coach Nagy always has and always will recruit the best players for his program and most importantly the best student-athletes for SDSU as an academic institution. Now, if that ever changes, that's where his job would be in jeopardy. IMO

Don't get me wrong, the past few years have been tough for the SDSU Men's Basketball team and fans. But, it wasn't unexpected, considering the move to D-1 and the bad luck the team has had. But if you can't take some down-times with good-times you're not a true SDSU athletics fan IMHO.

SDSU got Palarca a kid that put up damn good numbers in the LA metro area.... We got Cassady who played in the Denver Metro Area.... We got Cordova who played in Sioux Falls but is from SoCal.... The thing about SDSU is when you get a recruit like a local recruit like Chad White you have to take the risk early.... With SDSU being the only real D-I school you have to not only recruit big you have to grab the locals when they are here thats how you maintain local support when your teams aren't challenging for national titles every year.

Its not my business where Coach Nagy and his staff recruit players from. I expect them to use their judgement to find the best players for our program with the understanding that SDSU is a university first, Jackrabbit athletics only succeeds when our student-athletes succeed. If anyone here is suggestion we not recruit students on the basis of race, religion, etc.. please let me know. I hope your suggestion is in jest or our of ignorance.

My problem is with the attitude of an individual who wants to pick and choose when to be a "fan". How do you even draw your conclusion from what was posted?

Names please.......would seem to me that these good players from Omaha would be playing for some summer program but I don't recall seeing anyone on the Crusaders or the Bison rosters this summer that would bump White or Fiegen out of scholarships. Also, why wouldn't these high caliber athletes be recruited by Creighton or Nebraska.....sounds like you are stretching a bit here. Furthermore I really don't consider kids from a town the size of Omaha intercity.......that also is a stretch. Not like they have a hardcore lifestyle. Bottom line, if the kids could play SDSU would be recruiting them but they aren't.....that should tell you something.

Just because a kid can dunk in an alley doesn't mean he can play D-I ball.

In state, inner city, out of state, out of country. It doesn't matter, DakotaShooter. If you know some good student-athletes, suggest that they check out SDSU. Especially if they're 6-9.

Let me clarify: There was a post about SDSU needing to recruit more innercity players (in this case a few kids from Omaha). The poster went on to say he was finding it harder to support SDSU. The next two posts told him he should not support SDSU anymore. I assumed it was because he/she was being a fair weather fan but wanted to make sure. I'll also be honest I wanted to see how people would react to the post. As the high school coach of one of the "innercity recruits" I wanted to test the climate.

C-house, Im also a high school coach and I guess I would never use one of these fan boards to "judge the climate" at a school recruiting one of my athletes. First of all, you never know who posters really are. The person who made the comment about "inner city" may be someone just trying to give mis information. Second, the way you judge a climate is to talk to the coaches directly. They are the ones who define the climate for your athletes and who will define the students college experience not the folks who post on this fan board (most of whom have been out of college for years and years and some of whom never went to SDSU).

Final comment, I found the original reference to "inner city" to be totally out of line and inappropriate.

Well c-house, I don't want to speak for everyone, but this is my position on recruiting. I have trust in Nagy and the staff to bring in good quality student-athletes. They can be local recruits, out-of-state recruits, inter-city recruits, heck even International Students (Kia Williams). I will support the athlete when they put on the SDSU jersey.

I think the other posters where stating that if you can't support the product that is being recruited, then you need to stop supporting SDSU.

Note Mrs. Williams, I changed the description to International Student. Sorry if this offended you or your family. Peace.

Hobo-D - Of course I am only taking the board for what it is. However, it does add to the a small amount to a big picture. I am personally a big fan of the coaching staff. Coach Nagy and Cunningham have my respect and support. I know they do a fine job - don't read more into my post then there is. As you stated I responded to a post about "innercity" kids because I was also concerned like you with the terminology and tone.
