If SDSU hires Klink they would have kept Goodbary and Bahl. Larson probably leaves either way and Hadnot a toss up.

SDSU is gonna feel the loss of Klink more than I think people are wanting to think.

I think so too. Petersen will be good but I think Klink being made head coach could've helped a bit more with stability. Maybe he didn't want it. Time to move on I guess.

Based on what? I'm guessing Goodbary leaving had more to do with money and/or Hendo and not the difference between Klink and Petersen.

i mean absolutely ZERO disrespect to Klink!!! appreciate his long and loyal service!! he has been here through a lot of amazing players and years!!

that said, do you have even a tiny bit of evidence to back up your statement? from everything I know, both Pete and Klink are well respected. it seems to me that the losses are much more likely to be connected to Hendo leaving than a dislike of the HC choice

Klink is probably the most well liked coach according to any current or former player I've talked to. I'm not saying Peterson isn't well liked but something must be special about Klink as many players still describe him as their outright favorite. Is what it is at this point.

Whatever the reason, Coach Klink was passed over for the head job at SDSU three times. His tenure with the Jacks began as an assistant with Coach Nagy back in the D-2 era. I appreciate Klink's contributions to the program, but it's time to move on. Coach Petersen appears to be a highly regarded up-and-comer.
              This space for lease.

And a year ago when there were rumors of Hendo leaving, there were reports that the players wanted Pete. I'm sure the players love both of them. Just as Justin Sell sat down with TJ when he left to come up with Hendo as the replacement, I'm sure Sell talked with Hendo to get his thoughts on his replacement. They both would have been good choices. Guessing that head coaching experience may have tipped the scales to Pete. Plus having worked in the JUCO situation where there's constant roster turnover.

That's a chit statement. I am not fam and will vouch for him as a good man. He was a Jackrabbit to the bone, but he could only take so much.

The fact Klink and Petersen were options on former staff is a testament to Nagy's/Otz's/Hendo's and Admin's (not to mention Klink & Petersen's) ability to foster "Jacks culture"

No need to critique one candidate in effort to "elevate" one's preferred candidate

Not sure Klink was an option. Seems to me the hiring process of Peterson was pretty quick after Hendo’s departure. I suspect Sell has some input on staff hiring at least from a succession perspective. It appears he knows early on if there is a hire-able head coach on staff and seems pretty quick to pull the trigger.

Klink has been passed over 3 times … when Nagy left they went external and when Otz/Hendo left they went internal. Everything they say about Klink is true … good guy, loyal, connected, relatable, knowledgeable … but it’s apparent at least to SDSU administrators that he isn’t head coach material for them.

Fair point; I was basing that assessment on folks' assertions here, rather than what Justin Sell believes/knows

Zim was vocal about Sell preferring McDermott disciples, so it's completely plausible Klink was never a viable option for Admin

Tanner Castora is out with a video tonight, and said that Sell told him that deciding between Pete and Klink was the toughest coaching decision that he's had to make.

Klink is a great guy and a true Jackrabbit and deserves nothing but our respect.

AD Sell had a tough call to make, and he made it. That's his job.

I don't know if we'd have kept more guys with Klink or not. I do know he is very well liked. I also know that Pete is well liked.

Kirsch was a former Grad Assistant here under Nagy.

Give Pete some time to fill out the staff. Sometimes some "new blood" is a good thing. When Nagy left, he took all the assistants but Klink. When TJ left, the staff was largely left unchanged... that's VERY rare.

Trust in the higher ups, guys. It's about the players on the floor more than anything, and we have a good number of them coming back. Yeah the incoming recruits hurt, but we can sign other players, there's a bazillion people in the portal.

Remember when TJ came in, he brought in a bunch of transfers: Chris Howell, Sergio El Darwich, AJ Hess, and the legend Michael Orris.

It's not ideal, but it's the landscape we're in. We land ONE good Juco or portal transfer this year (and don't thnk Nagy was averse to Jucos... remember Deandre Parks?), and we could be VERY salty.

Love Klink as a human and a coach. Same with Peterson. I believe Castora when he said Sell mentioned it as the toughest of his career.

Regardless, the decision is made and we have a coach. Sell has made two major revenue sport HC hires in just over 3 months within a span of days of the former leaving. He and Dunn always do what's best and it's amazing how we continue to have success. Honestly with Sell's track record he could hire a pringles can to coach and I'd be onboard. That's our golden goose right there.
