Spokane is a long ways from South Dakota, its a lot longer ways from Maryland. I anticipate we will have some neutral fans backing the Jacks if SDSU can stay in the game into the second half. Can't have a debacle like IPFW had with San Diego State last night. That was terrible.
If we have an IPFW performance something is wrong. That was horrible. The minute the other SDSU got them down by 10 it was over. You could see it in the body language, the style of play, and the attitude. I took it as, "we had NDSU beat in the SLT, we fell apart and we still haven't gotten over it".

If we can take a lead or keep it close we will have the crowd behind us. I don't expect to see a lot of MD fans in the stands..

Sad performance especially after the comments their coach made after they lost in the SLT. According to their coach whomever they play better watch out because we're kicking behind and taking names!! Not his exact words but my interpretation.

Here is our section of the article.

Entering Selection Sunday, Maryland was dangling at the end of a pole, just waiting for a worthy predator to claim its prize. Instead, the Jackrabbits showed up. As we mentioned in the East preview, if Maryland had faced Chattanooga, our model says there would have been a 52.1 percent chance of an upset. Arkansas-Little Rock would have had a 24.3 percent chance of knocking off the Terps. But our model sees South Dakota State as a schoolyard bully -- a decent team designed to rule a weak conference, rather than challenge bigger programs. Simply put, the Jackrabbits don't take enough risks. They take 3-pointers on 36.2 percent of field goals, which is only slightly above the national average. They force turnovers on just 17.1 percent of possessions. They do their best work on the boards, where 6-9 Mike Daum (15.2 points per game, 6.1 rebounds per game) has them ranked in the top 100 at both ends. And that could prove valuable against a Maryland team that is ranked 160th in offensive rebounding and 152nd in defensive rebounding, despite having Diamond Stoneand Robert Carter inside.
But the real way to beat Maryland is to expose its horrible turnover differential. The Terps cough it up on 19.1 percent of possessions and get it back just 16.5 percent of the time. South Dakota State's conservative defense isn't built to exploit those ball-handling weaknesses, though. So even though Generic Killers (South Dakota State's family) beat Generic Giants (Maryland's family) 32 percent of the time, South Dakota State's weak arsenal keeps this upset percentage low. If the Jackrabbits are able to defy the odds, it will likely require a lot of help from Maryland.
I kind of agree our defense is too conservative to exploit their turning the ball over weakness, but it's too late to change now I would suspect....changes have to be well thought out and practiced, practiced, and more practice. Also, personnel plays a factor and bench depth if you suddenly start playing a defense that wears you out and you have no energy left at the end of the game.It takes all 5 guys playing together to play an aggressive style defense, lots of driving lanes open up when you are flying around the court guarding people way outside of where you normally do.You need quick on their feet defenders, one or two slow ones will mess it all up.Need a very good rim defender,in case anyone slips by,to make them change their mind about driving all the way to the hoop.

Zimmer has a press Periscope session with the Jackrabbit players Marshall, Parks, and Daum right now. Coach nagy to go on shortly.

Not to put the cart before the horse but Cal's leading scorer, Tyrone Wallace, broke his hand in practice yesterday. If SDSU were to win, we would face the winner of #4 Cal and #13 Hawaii. Go RAINBOWS!!!!

When you say go Rainbows, all that comes to mind is Cartman saying how he hates those things....always crawling up his leg etc.

If there's going to be one upset in Spokane tomorrow, I do not want it to be Hawaii over Cal.

I'm okay with Hawaii vs. SDSU in the second round, however.

I'm fired up for this one. We had our hoops tickets bought back in May to go to Spokane. Its an easy one hour flight from here where, with the time change, you land at the same time you took off. It was all the better on Selection Sunday when we learned the Jacks would be playing there.

Spokane is a huge basketball town and if the fans (other than Terp fans) smell an upset the place will be nuts.

Feel free to help the fans start a "Let's go Rabitts" as soon as possible I know I would if I was there.

NCAA Tournament game day. There are a lot of fan bases that would love to have their team taking the floor today. Enjoy it while we have the opportunity.

This is definitely the mindset I'm trying to adopt. If today isn't fun, then it's time to give up sports or readjust the attitude. Only our second trip in the last 5 years, nothing is guaranteed.
