Daum is averaging 17.3 ppg in Summit League games. I can't find any league-wide stats for conference games, but that has to put him near the top-5. He's 11th in scoring when all games are considered, and the 10 in front of him are averaging at least 6 more minutes per game. What is the ceiling for a post that can do that as a freshman? You'll often see freshman guards come in and make a big splash but you don't see it often with a big man at this mid-major level. Those kind of guys get picked up by the BCS schools.
Keep in mind that Flack didn't play in a game for like a year and a half, he's still getting used to playing.

Daum didn't play in a game for a year. He's just getting used to playing also. Excuses are like, well you know, everybodys got one.

I don't consider this smack, because it really is serious and funny at the same time.

How does Denver get two guys in the top ten with an offense like that? Could it be they shoot too much when in the ball game so coach doesn't play them as much? Combined, they play about 32 minutes per game which is less than five of the individuals on the list.

On another point, who else is increasingly impressed with Devine play off bench. Kid looks like he is really working hard, and he gives a really good defensive boost inside when he is in, and his offensive moves are better and are showing the polish of a lot of work. I hope he keeps geting serious time.
Theisen is struggling big time right now. Devine has stepped up. Ian better improve his play, on both ends, or Devine will be seeing a lot more time on the court.

Once Daum hit the floor the game immediately flipped in the Jack's favor and the much better team blew out a weak coyote team that shouldn't be a threat.

Daum's offensive skills have tested the defense of the opponents. The 4 and 5 defensive positions have not found a good answer for his abilities. As he refines his own defensive skills, we could see one of those talents on par or better than a Wolters level of talent. If he continues to find his game, the combination of the guard play for SDSU will be the groundwork for a great tournament. The first big test is Thursday in Ft Wayne. Telly and Theisen should be contibutors as well.

Unrelated to this thread, but does anyone have insight as to how Gentry and Dykman have looked in practice.

Can we count on them to be significant contributors next season?

More info on Daum's scoring as a freshman....he is 82 points from setting the freshman points in a season. Matt Caldwell currently has 453 point in 29 games averaging 15.6 points per game in 2006. Daum has 372 points in 26 games with 14.2 pts per game. There are many bright spots for this season and indications or more to come.

Nagy mentioned Gentry on his radio show after one of the Omaha games. They were talking about how fast Patterson is, and Nagy said they hadn't played against another guard that fast all year, with maybe the exception of Gentry in practice.

You wanna compare redshirting to having a bulging disc and a torn meniscus? Okay.

I like Flack's game and aggressive attitude. Would have loved to see him as a Jack.

I have been happy with Connor's contributions. He is a really good kid and you like to see a senior getting in there.

However, let's be honest about his ability. Connor is a presence on the defensive end with his ability to block shots. Outside of that he struggles and never made a ton of progress since his first year. He is a below average passer, gets pushed around by everyone, and his ability to finish around the basket is not good. Yes, he has had a few good dunks and awesome blocks but he gets the ball in positions that he should finish at the rim and due to either not catching the pass well or not having the strength it ends up being a missed shot or a turnover.

We need him to contribute minutes for sure. He was a project. Unfortunately, he hasn't developed as much as everyone had hoped. He's a very bright kid with a good head on his shoulders. His future is bright no matter what he decides to do. He has handled not playing a lot with class and is a good teammate.
