Yes, he does foul a little to often, but that is fixable. He is only a true sophomore. He's also pretty dang accurate from 3. He is starting at forward/center till his career is over.
Also, he is part of the reason those guards rebound so well. Watch him specifically on rebounding situations. He boxes his guy out, and doesn't go for the board. That's not an accident. It allows space for the guards to crash the boards.

I would guess Coach Nagy has similar thoughts. It also a big plus to have someone like Daum coming off the bench who is a scorer on the floor in the rotation. The roles that a coach has set for a team should be published so the fans can follow the season and grade the players that way too.

The reference is to Tre Norris (uniform #1) hitting a three at 17:21 in the first half. He momentarily stopped, stared at the SDSU bench, extended his right arm straight above his head, displaying three fingers. The most accurate term I can think of is "taunting". I can recall seeing one other incident of taunting in Frost by a visiting team and that was a guard from NDSU several years ago.

My first reaction was to think that was really a "high school" move. But, I don't think I've seen a high school player do something that stupid in a long time.

Stupid because there's some sort of unwritten rule of nature that a good athlete knows without really thinking about it: do something like what Norris did tonight and it'll bite you in the behind -- in this case, getting your butt kicked.

He is above average at fouling though...
I'm going to have to side with the board members that are calling Ian's play "solid", though I understand your frustration with his fouling issues.

I think Theisen's foul trouble and overall play (since he could be on the floor longer and could get some rhythm) would improve dramatically if he just became more disciplined with his off hand when he is defending and going for rebounds. Too often he is pushing with that arm/hand when it's unnecessary, and refs are not going to miss that action when he does it with so much force and it's around the ball.

This is not good. Done in Vermillion when George got call for traveling I think, Norris did a Harlem shuffle which did not show too much maturity and now this. We may not see him again ever since he is a senior and we may not match up with USD in the tourney, but I more than say that and I will be quickly corrected with an analysis of why we would match up in the first round.

USD is 6-9 to start; Jacks don't look good defensively.

USD leads 16-9; 14:45 left in the half.
This was honestly ridiculous to watch in person. That number 1 for them held a three up for a few seconds standing there made it even worse. Maybe you could say they're confident but they came off like a couple of idiots.

Love it? I don't think so. This was the other "taunting" I recalled from the USD players. I was at the game sitting on the south side so that when Kazperbauer hit his three and turned and walked (took three steps) toward our bench, I could see his face. (When I returned home, I checked the DVR -- this incident is at 15:41 left in the first half). I thought it was really a bush-league move and one that is well beneath what one would expect from a player of his caliber. Of course, the end result of the game was a nice response to the taunt.

Re: GDT: Jackrabbits vs Coyotes The Corn Showdown continues

After the game, I asked one of the SDSU team members for his reaction to the Norris and Kasperbauer taunts. His response was to tell me that Coach Nagy told the team at halftime that if any of the Jacks did that, there'd be severe consequences.

I can't imagine any of Coach Nagy's players over the years taunting like what was demonstrated in Frost today. I have to believe USD Coach Smith will have something to say to his players about taunting. At a minimum, maybe something like the following: "If you're going to taunt the opposing players, then how about winning the game? And, don't be surprised if you get a strong reaction - like an elbow to the face, for example -- because, after all, isn't evoking a strong response the purpose for making the taunt? Look guys, no more taunting. Win like you've been there before."

Dave Boots had players who taunted. Is that a "tradition" that will continue under Coach Smith?

One point missed by being at the game, but later caught while skipping through the first half replay on the DVR: a sign held by one of the SDSU student fans featured prominently on the Midco gamecast said:

                      I AM ED,
                      #FEARME

Had a good laugh over that.

I don't think the conversation would have been that long.

                          "Bench. Now. Stay."

Kind of like when Kansas' Bill Self called out one of his own players for dunking at the end of the KU-K-State game, saying it was a "D*ck move."
                          "I think we'll be OK"

Kasperbauer was probably just celebrating that he'll never have to play in Frost again. 0-4 lifetime. None particularly close.

Someone did; Marshall hit five consecutive shots with Norris as the defender on at least 3 or four of the shots after the Norris' pose. As a former player that was one of the quickest ways to get someone to stop all of the trash talk or antics just go off and Marshall did!! I love trash talking as long as you can back it up!!

Was Norris' still posing after Marshall hit his 3rd trey or was he occupied trying to find a way to stop Marshall? This should be the end of this conversation because we got the last laugh!!

Kasperbauer was guarding Telly for a lot of the game and I was waiting for the Jacks to clear out underneath and let Telly post him up. It would have been enjoyable to watch him get used and abused.
