Point Guard was not the issue last night.

I don't think it was either, many more issues since we had as many as three or four freshman on the floor at one time.

I think I heard that this was supposed to be a really deep team but it hasn't shown that yet. I do know that we are only 2 games in and they will get better but as of now they look like a 4 or 5 person team. You have Bittle and Larson that are constants. From the two game sample Flatten looks like the other constant. The other players that played good in one of the two games are Zach H. and Parks.

Reed looked really good in an exhibition game but he's struggled to start the season. Conner could be a force but so far he has had a problem with fouls. Of course, Zach might have played better last night if he didn't get into foul trouble. I think he has 9 could in 2 games. When you get 2 early and have to sit on the bench (as a senior leader) that shortens the bench even more. The rest of the bench hasn't played much to be a factor, yet.

Missing Marshall now maybe cost us 2 games but I'm sure it will help us later this year and probably over the next 3 years. If he was playing now, we would have our standard 6 man rotation and some of the younger players probably wouldn't get much playing time. Hopefully they can start to get comfortable playing more time and when Marshall joins the team they are better suited to come in and play some quality minutes.

I would rather haveMarshall playing now because 3 constants are better than 2 and two wins are much better than none but there are some positives to starting the season the way it has.

The Jacks are deep. They played 9 guys against Idaho. Marshall could bring the options to 10.

I think they will be deep and they will need to be deep. Right now I like way the Larson is competing. I liked the way Parks played and as a 2 he's going to be good. Bittle forced too much last night but you can't argue with how hard he plays. Reed is a shooter and I'd like to see us spot him up more. Great stroke. Flatten appears to have some flair and some nice upside too. Conner and Ian spend too much time 20 feet from the basket setting those aforementioned picks and our rebounding suffers and very few post looks except for Cody. I'd love to see more high/low action. Zach's foul trouble isn't a concern for me, he'll be fine. Broman was spotted up once last night for a 3 right before Bittle charged but I love those type of kickouts. That's what Andres does well.

All that said, we gave up 81 points to a team who probably won't average 65 in the Big Sky. Sure they made some shots late but everyone does.

The team is pretty deep in concerns with physical talent, but very raw in terms of basketball skill (at least knowing how to use it and when) and game IQ. The only way to remedy this is to put them on the court so they can learn. I'd be more concerned if the team had physical limitation to becoming good, but I just don't see that as the case.

So far, defense and rebounding have been the biggest issues. This is because we're a step slow, not in foot speed, but rather realizing what needs to be done. Once it becomes more natural and the young players adjust to the speed of them game, I think we'll see some dramatic improvement in these areas.

Huh? What? Our starting PG had 1 assist last night and we had 6 total. PG play is our biggest issue right now on the offensive end.

Okay than look at Parks work in it entirety on the offensive end! 6-9 shooting from the field and 4-5 at the line along with 7 defensive rebounds, 1 steal and just 2 turnovers in team leading 37 minutes. That is a hell of a game. 6 total assists is an indictment on the entire team not just one player.

That is because we have a SG playing the point. Once conference season starts and we have a true point guard this team will be impressive.

We don't know that. Potential is only that. That was a bad loss, excuses aside.

This^^^^^. We've all heard how 'great' some players were gonna be in the past that didn't exactly pan out. Now granted, Marshall has a much better resume than all of those, but still...let's tap the brakes on Marshall until he actually hits the court.

I know this is off-topic, but I'm not sure if there's a better place to ask, so I'll post it here and you guys can yell at me if I'm wrong to do that.

I've now read through a couple of your game day threads. I see tons of names of who will or won't be good, who should be playing more and who shouldn't, who will make a huge impact when he arrives (Marshall), etc.

The only name I feel like I haven't seen on ANY threads besides the recruiting thread from his recruiting class is Doyle. What's the deal with him? Has anyone heard anything about him? Has he played at all this year? Will he play at all?

I just remember him being fairly well-recruited out of HS in Minnesota, but, like I said, I don't know if I've seen his name on this forum since he committed/signed a couple of years ago.

Doyle played some in Brazil and the first exhibition game, but hasn't seen any since. He was a project coming into his college career and is only a red shirt freshman this year, so it's not unexpected that he hasn't seen any meaningful minutes at this point in his career.

I would guess next year will be more of his make-or-break year, as it'll be his third year in the program and he won't have a senior, all conference post eating up minutes in front of him.

GOJACK.COM still has Logan Doyle on the roster. Which would indicate he is still practicing, but probably riding the pine. He has got the size to play inside. Hard to say what is going on here.
