Lower the students on the baseline to floor level so they many can see under the hoops, go back to the hanging hoops and it’s not bad at all sitting there, where it’s up off the floor you can’t see half the court unless on the side so being in the middle is a horrible view. Put the bleachers down and the whole length of the baseline and it improves thing immensely.

So you are saying that having three or four more rows of seats down to floor level on the ends would make a major difference in the number of students who turn out for games ?

But you might be right. Does Justin Sell really care how many season ticket holders SDSU has in 15 years? Deep down, its doubtful. He cares about meeting the budget today, and will likely move on to a better job someday.

This attitude/problem is present at many different levels throughout the university.

It leads to situations like the college buying hundreds of acres of pasture half a county away from campus, then deciding they aren't really going to use it for any purpose even close to the capital it took to buy it. Then the guy who spear-headed that move, and spent all the money, moves on to somewhere else. Does that person really care about the state of the Cow/Calf unit in 15 years? No worries, we'll just raise tuition again next year. Sorry for the rant.
Well i am sure they dont care to much since if they need they can just charge more for student activity fees. SDSU would be in a world of hurt with out that garuntee money charged to every student. Maybe Sell only cares about the bottom line, but I would think he would care about fan experience and for the players too. For growing the brand long term, I am sure Chicoine probably cares about those things. If Sell is trying to build a new football stadium, he needs butts in the seats, thats means students too. So if there are ever future changes at frost, student consideration will need to be taken as much as some on here might not like it.

When i was a student and had the wood bleachers down to the floor, student turn out was better. was the blue bleachers went it, it affected it, so I would think with a little time and a better experience students would turn up more. Atleast then they dont have to worry as much about people yelling at them to sit down from behind as much.

Your comments about Justin Sell and the department don't care how many season tickets are sold (or represented in attendance) is just baloney goon, and I can't help but comment on it. We have gone to Division 1, which requires a tremendous amount more of money for hiring additional coaches, upping coaches salaries, paying more scholarship money than we did before, etc. etc. Sell and his understaffed administrative staff (given what we are trying to accomplish here, and the necessity to add scholarships and coaches and up salaries) have performed marvelously. The indoor practice facility will help all sports, and adds additional resources for students in general. The need to build a football stadium is obvious, and thanks to hard work by the department, we are marking remarkable progress on that. The department is quite aware of the money received in student fees and is certainly interested in what students think...while trying to balance that with their financial needs in regards to season ticket holders and other non-student ticket sales. You are entitled to your opinions on how much better it would have been for student attendance if the department had not moved the students to the end zones, or whether the floor level bleachers would be better, but the rest of us who help fund the department's needs (which I have done for the past 43 years) realize the tremendous on-going needs and appreciate how far Justin Sell has moved SDSU in the few years he has been here.

As far as attendance goes, I am a complainer as well, but realize that a number of factors are included. We had better attendance in D2, because we had Friday and Saturday doubleheaders and out-of-towners got a great bargain coming up for the weekends. Those don't happen any more, and mirror scheduling has certainly not been helpful in that regard. And I would add one final comment: this has been the coldest stretch of winter that I can remember in the last 43 years since I came back home to South Dakota (not the worst winter...for blizzards, more snow, but the coldest stretch from December through February) and I am quite sure that doesn't help attendance. Out-of-towners don't want to hit the roads in bitter cold, and it is easier for everybody (local fans, students) to just decide to stay inside. And one final thought: a flat economy is not helpful either.

So to point out that of the 12k students on campus that they arent filling up their share of space allotted.

Not enough. My discretionary budget for attending sporting events is a bit smaller now after having a baby in November, factor in gas and such going to many basketball games is not as high of a priority as it hand been the last few years since i graduated. And getting season football tickets is all i can budget for now along with all session passes to the summit tourny.

                    1) There are 12,000 students and Brookings has a census 22,000 including the students. I believe the attendance figure of 2100+ Thursday night, included about 300 students and the rest were non-students. And as I said earlier, weather is a factor for out-of-town attendees. And on an earlier point, Fargo has 150,000+ population, which includes 13,000 NDSU students, and their attendance Thursday night was 600 more than we had in Frost. Would I like better attendance? Yes...but I do understand some of the problems and I will still say, it is hard for me to believe we couldn't have 500+ students at a weekday game (as opposed to weekend, when many students leave campus).

Could you point out where I said they dont care how many season tickets are sold? Maybe i missed it. I dont know how you can argue that moving the students was a good move for the students. Thats what I am saying, If those seats were so great behind the basket why didnt all these season ticket holders buy um up? Simple, they are not good seats. Thats amongst many reasons why students IMHO are not turing out for games. So move students so season ticket holders get better seats, increase season ticket sales, but overall attendance is down across the board, not just students arent showing up. So I get tired of people ragging on why couldnt the student do better or show up etc.

I was in Vermillion Saturday for the men's game. The students made the game atmoshpere. They were packed in the bleachers on both ends. Last year at The Barn in Minneapolis for the womens games, the students filled the one end available for the gophers. Fargo has the students behind the team and the band and the old people like me took the bleachers. Bleachers on the end are not the worst seat in the house. I do not buy the argument about the ends. The best answer is not out there yet, but I would guess it will be more than 1 answer.

As much as we love to complain about it here, a lot of schools in the confrence and region would love to have the issues we have, attendance isnt as great as we want it but its better then what many schools deal with.

Yep, and Students do also, so we are making each others point I guess. dont get me wrong Im not taking away from the people that do go and put it as a priority, but how many just knock the students is getting old.
