  • Ball State Interested in Scott Nagy

Terry just tweeted this. They went 15-15 last year and their fired coach made 215K.

No keep it here, I was only reporting twitter feed stuff in there until it was confirmed.

    Here it is

Ball State has expressed interest in Scott Nagy, confirmed by Justin Snell

Most expect Dane Fife to be the leader for the job, and reports are he would take it if offered

Their coach made $215K this year, but reports are that they are prepared to go over $300K for the new coach. Last report I had for Nagy had him at $150K

There have been some rumors, but nothing official on whether Nagy interviewed today for the position.

FWIW the beat writer for Ball State (TV equivalent), Thomas St. Myer, has Dane Fife as leading candidate, but says Bellarmine HC Scott Davenport is 1B according to his Twitter feed.

Nagy mentioned once in St. Myer's tweets--on Mar. 19 (nine days ago) again FWIW (probably not much).
      "I think we'll be OK"

I know is speculative chatter, but based on that Scott Nagy is probably a third choice at best. When he gets on the plane, Indiana bound, I will start worrying.

Here is the argus article on the situation

Says that Ball State hasn't asked for formal permission but that Nagy notified SDSU that they have expressed interest in him

For him being on a plane to start to worry, I'm guessing he is currently in Indianapolis for the NCAA tournament in which IUPUI is hosting

I guess I should start worrying. He said he would respond when his plane landed. Landed where and how? Ball State is not far from Indy, so there is reason to worry.

I don't know why he would be on a plane to Indy, when he'll be in Georgia for the Final next week.

                  Terry Vandrovec ‏@TerryVandrovec 5m
SDSU's @CoachNagy on meeting with Ball State today: "You just keep your options open. That doesn't mean it's a better job."

My guess is that they want Dane Fife, but the rumor is he won't take any job until its 100% that Brad Stevens is staying at Butler, as he wants that job. There is also rumors that he makes in the $200K range at Michigan St. and is the coach in waiting. So some question whether he would take the job.

The one hold up I've heard about Bellarmine HC Scott Davenport is that he might have a fairly large buyout (especially for a D-II school). Just a rumor there.

From what Terry has said on twitter. Coach Nagy did indeed interview for the Ball State job today and is already back in South Dakota. My guess is that they will offer it to Dane Fife whether or not he takes it I don't know.

Would you want to stay at a school if the state's largest newspaper was running pictures of you that looked like this?

Dane Fife has as much chance getting the Butler job as I do. He did nothing at IPFW and if he does get it Nagy(and every other Summit HC) sould go be an assistant at Michigan St as soon as Fife leaves.

Dane Fife did a solid job at IPFW for what he had in terms of facilities and funding, being an assistant for a Tom Izzo gets you on many short list, he is young and hot enough to swin a press conference but not too big to cost big money or bring huge expectations.
