  • Re: CSUBakersfield GDT

I know, I know. Dont blame the refs, yes I blame the Jacks for the loss but here is some stats on the refs that are interesting.

Tony Collaza- this was his third game called in two seasons all in Cali. all of them for CSUB and CSUB is 3-0 this was his first game of the 2012-2013 season. http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/tony-collaza/trends
Eric Morales- this was his first game this season, seven games total in three seasons. his last four games called have all been for CSUB and CSUB won them all. http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/eric-morales
Victor Briscoe- this was his fourth game of the season, all of them for CSUB, in those games CSUB is 3-1. http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/victor-briscoe

It's very interesting when you go through all the stat lines and box scores. especially Briscoe's because he has more games.

by comparison here are the stats for the game at Brookings.

Luke Langer, first game ever at least on the college level. http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/victor-briscoe
Marcus Gossard, second game with the Jacks, eleven games in two seasons, Summit League ref http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/marcus-gossard
Brooks Wells, fifth game this season, two with the Jacks. http://statsheet.com/mcb/referees/brooks-wells
Jim Ferrari, no games listed, replacement ref, replaced Luke Langer in the second half.

Could be devastating to our NCAA seed (assuming that we win the Summit tourney). Where we were projected as a 13, I'm guessing this loss could drop us to 14 or (given SDSU's luck with NCAA seeding) a 14. You can gripe about the officiating, but the officials didn't commit 18 turnovers or give up all of those offensive rebounds. The officials didn't miss 3 of 4 free throws in the second overtime. The Jacks should have won but didn't deserve to win given how poorly they played. 18 turnovers? Disgraceful.

I'm guessing most of the people that are saying it wasn't the refs are the same ones that thought how ridiculous the TD call Seahawks vs Packers was. Can't have it both ways. Rodgers and Packers had a terrible first half that game. That's what lost them the game not the refs call at the end.

            12-21 at the line.

Dare I say our players "choked" at the line?

Not gonna win many games that you shoot that poorly from the line in.

Not blaming the refs, but they did commit some of the turnovers. I remember a play where a CSUB player pushed our player - Tyler called it, Nagy yelled about it and Skippy who was at the game confirmed it - and we got called for a travel - turnover. Like Coach said after the game we lost that one in the first half. We should have been up by 20 at halftime. But the fact that our team lost the game - we lost it - doesn't change that fact that the refs were atrocious and they shouldn't be allowed to ref middle school games.

CSU-B coach might have a point about the Brookings game. Fouls were 20 to 9 in favor of CSU-B in the Brookings game and last night the calls were 19 to 15, SDSU favor. Looks like the total fouls even up towards the end of second overtime. We lost the game, plain and simple. We need to play better in order to win.

Yeah I remember that call, it remove all thoughts of slumber. We could have and should have be up 20 at halftime, but were up only 8 pts. CSU-B shot less than 20 per cent for the first half.

Tyler's call last night indicated there was no contact on the foul call with half a second to go. As he watched the replay, he said it was very, very minimal at best.

Nobody wants to blame the refs, but who makes a call like that with half a second to go? Furthermore, if these refs are basically only reffing Bakersfield games, and the Roadrunners just happen to win at a much higher percentage than they normally do when these guys ref, it at least makes you wonder.

I said it earlier this thread, stop scheduling nonconference teams for two games in the same year. Make the return trip the following year. Hopefully we learned our lesson after getting burned by UND last year and last nights debacle.

I know we missed other chances but let's face it it was a horrible call. We were still in position to win the game until .5 seconds on the clock. The refs obviously made a bad call. That affected the outcome of the game.

Right. The first finger to point is at the players. They obviously weren't ready for this game. They are the first to blame because all it would've taken is one more made free throw, one less turnover, one more stop, etc. etc. to avoid even being in position for the refs to have an affect in the waning seconds of the game.

But, there's something fishy with this officiating crew IMO. Their go-to guys after the team was upset about how the Brookings game was called?

We also need to start cheering for the other projected 13 and 14 seeds, and maybe even 15 seeds, to start losing so that the Jacks can still hope for a 14 if they do win the Summit Tourney.

You are right, of course. Who ever heard of calling a foul away from the rebound with .5 seconds left in the game? Unless you deck a guy, the ref should swallow the whistle at that point.

Easier said then done. Scheduling has always been difficult but has turned into a nightmare since we have been successful.
