        Re: USD coming to Frost

As the weather is forecasted chilly(-15) with a balmy 8+ WNW breeze, this may be the time for the a few more of the 12,000 students arrive for the game. It is unlikely the season ticket holder crowd will vary too much. If 3800 attended the Oakland game, I would hope for 5000+ show up in the middle of the week on a brutally cold evening for a game with the yotes. Either way, I expect enough noise to remind the yotes this is not a home game in the dome.

We are making the trip up if its not icy. Never mind the 2 hour drive up there during daylight. Its the drive back in the dark knowing we need to be up for work and school that bothers me. A 3 or 4 hour crawl on slippery roads to arrive home after midnight and then get up at 6 am is not at the top of my list of fun things to do.

Jacks should win this game easily on paper. They don't them on paper. USD hasn't won back-to-back games and they haven't lost many either. Jacks have a 26 game home winning streak that the coyotes would LOVE to break. Currently 0.5 game out of conference lead and tied with NDSU.

This is a huge game for the Jackrabbits. All the pressure is on SDSU. USD can come in to Frost loose, nothing to lose, work the inside out game and bomb 3's. I expect Wolters to get roughed up anytime he tries to get to the hoop. They will sag off our shooters and make us beat them on the perimeter. Boots might even come out with the "coyote weave" again. The loss to UNO Saturday may very well have been because they have been game planning for this game all of last week and this week.

It will come down to defensive intensity and a desire to dominate on both ends. That doesn't happen right away, USD will find a way to stick around. Jacks bench is woefully short, some foul trouble or an injury and the dynamic of the game changes considerably. Should be fun.

jackmd you just scared me - probably because much of what you say is chillingly correct. Add in the pressure that the jacks really cannot afford to drop a single game between now and the end of march....... I like what I have been seeing on the floor from the Jacks, they seem to have found their defensive purpose and are playing more cohesively, everyone seems to finally understand their job and their place in the system. Even when they were down in the first half against NDSU they were not playing badly and it never felt like they couldn't come back with a run. Obviously I'd like to see them start a little warmer though. There will be no nights off for the rest of the season. Oakland is the other game that is looming large in my mind
Message for the youth: “Set your goals high and work for them, because if you set your goals where they should be, it’s going to require a lot of hard work. And even if you don’t achieve them, it shows longevity, and it shows commitment. And those are both things you need for the rest of your life,” Tony Fiegen

              Re: USD coming to Frost

My one remaining concern with this team has been the slow starts. They've had many games when they start slow. That even happened against NDSU at home the other night. In the second half they've been tough all year long. When they bring that same intensity from the opening tip, that is when I will feel they've peaked.

I can't think of a better game to do that then the game Thursday.

Us fans need to bring the noise too!

Be excited not fearful. The Jackrabbits have better players and a better coach and are playing on a court where they haven't lost in 26 straight tries. Should be all but a guaranteed W. Nagy will make sure the guys play with a greater sense of urgency than they did in Vermillion.

The scenario I laid out in my previous post is a worst case for SDSU best case for USD one. Highly unlikely all the things that need to come together will come together for the upset to occur.

Pulling my kids out of school early for the trip north. Is that a bad thing?

This trend is definitely frustrating. We've seen it too many times for it to be a coincidence. Fix this, and the path through the Summit should be fairly clear. A fast start against USD (like last year) should be deadly.

The lack of depth is another obvious concern. It has not risen up and bit us yet, but you have to admit that have a very short bench is concerning when the key to the season involves winning 3 games in a span of 4 days. Only 5 players scored against NDSU!

^^^^^^ THIS ^^^^^^^ (Me too, my little guy gets two days off school to come visit Brookings and take in 2 games - Bad parent/Good Jackrabbit - I'll take it!)

They are going to miss CCD tomorrow night as well, doesn't the Summit league realize Wednesday is church night in SD? Truancy officer anyone?

So what are the odds I can talk James into covering my desk shift at the PD and letting me cover the game tomorrow? .... yeah, that's what I thought, too. glad I made it up to Brookings last Saturday or I would be a very VERY sad fan right now. (Instead of just sad)

                              Just food for thought:

                              1st half ppg: 34.7
                              2nd half ppg: 34.9

I just hate it when people bring facts into the story. I would like to call 39-26 at half and 73-60 final. It may not be logical, but I would guess the defense from the Jacks holds down the yotes shoooters.
