Hang in there Doc, they were not the better team tonight, and that is not an excuse.

This team has serious issues. I await the excuses and ideas that will try to explain away a collapse only explained by one thing, a lack of effort. If you don't play hard all the time you will lose most of the time no matter how much talent you have. Nagy did a crappy job of managing a team that doesn't seem to understand that every game is the most important game of the year.

Some will say "meh" some will use injuries as an excuse I'll not agree. This team is at best the 3rd place team in the Summit and so far from deserving a NCAA bid that it shouldn't even be discussed.

The talent might be there, might. The effort is not even close and I'll take effort over potential every night. Yet again I am disappointed by this team.
        Agreed completely.

No way this team (the way it's playing right now, and all signs seem to be pointing towards continued similar play), will beat either NDSU or WIU.

Upset isn't the right descriptor. Disappointed and jaded might be better. A road game against another mid major when SDSU should compete cannot end the way this one did just like a home game against a new DI team cannot have a result like the UND game just like........jaded seems about right.

There's a problem with this team, has been over the years, and it does seem to point to coaching/motivation. Nagy's learned a lot about coaching since the D-II days but it looks like he's still got some important things to learn (even if it's how to get seemingly simple ideas like "you've got targets on your backs now, gentlemen, so you'll have to play even harder now" into the heads of his players).

When they got three 3 pters in a row, the wheels did fall off, but "schmidt does happen" like the sign in King Lanes in Arlington reads. (King Lanes is owned by a guy named Schmidt). I think they will regroup. I am sure they thought they could compete, Belmont is a great program capable of breaking open a game in a hurry which they did to night, and I would agree our defense and offense did not respond to what was happening. The guys need to regroup.

I was confident getting 11.5, that is why its called gambling. Seriously, who could have anticipated that this team would stink this badly? Won't defend, can't make shots and can't adjust to defensive pressure. Its a recipe for disaster and that disaster has thus far been averted only by some lucky 3 point shots, a team that couldn't make FT's to finish a game, and some wins over DII or lesser teams.

Has much as these guys seemingly overachieved last year they have underachieved this year. Can or should blame be placed or is this just what fans should expect?

At some point you do have to start thinking "this is just who they are." That point is fast approaching.

It certainly makes you wonder. He is the one constant all the years similar to the FB program and Stig. The same issues seem to arise. Its tempered by that little bit of success, that idea that "things could be worse". I realize this is just one game but others must realize a trend arising. This team is barely winning games it should dominate, getting wins when it doesn't deserve them and getting blown out by teams that it should contend with.

I posted this in the CSU-B game thread. Seems appropriate to re-post:

Lost to Wisconsin-Green Bay by 15.

                          SDSU has:
                          Lost to Alabama by 3,
                          Lost to Hofstra by 3,
Lost to #14 Minnesota by 24.

The Hofstra loss was a baaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad loss for SDSU. Hofstra is 3-7 and one of the worst teams in D-I. Green Bay is a middle-of-the-pack team this year so far.

NDSU has been playing exceptionally good defense, they've only given up 60 points twice. SDSU has only given up less than 60 points twice. SDSU's defense is bad.

On paper, NDSU looks to me like the better team at this point in the season. I think any objective look based only on this year's results would have to favor the Bison right now to win the Summit.

Of course, it isn't even Christmas yet. We shall see.

Jacks need to show up and win in Missoula, because the trips to Belmont and New Mexico are going to be much taller tasks than beating the Grizzlies. If the Jacks go 2-1 on this road trip, it will be a good sign (but only if it continues into the first three road Summit League games). 0-3 is a distinct possibility, though, even if the Jacks figure out how to play with intensity on both ends of the court for the full forty minutes.

I was bowling tonight, so I missed the entire game. I am glad I did. To come full circle on this right now....the odds of us winning the Summit are worse than the odds of winning Powerball.

I have this horrible kids song that has been playing through my head since about 9 mins left in the game... The wheels on the bus go round and round... feels like we got stuck in park and Belmont hit Turbo Drive.

I was thinking that same thing. Often complaints about this team are rebutted by someone who says, "but we are 8-3.....". The truth is that we could easily have six or seven losses and some of them to really bad teams (UND especially sticks out). The not-Wolters have generally not been competing at a level befitting a conference championship team and (frankly) Wolters has looked like he's more likely to end up in Europe than on an NBA team since the end of the NY road trip. As I posted earlier, he has not hit 20 points or 10 assists in a DI game since November 17. That's concerning.

I hope these guys get the mental part of their game straightened out so we all don't spend the next decade wondering, "what if?".

Yes there is plenty of season yet and this was probably a top-50 opponent but a pattern is definitely emerging.
