    Re: Tennessee State GDT

I really liked the west side and they added to the game - many was the time last year that the whole student section sat and didn't do much. I think the move has been good so far.

Students on the west side did a nice job tonight. They also followed the cheers led by the cheerleaders. Students on the east side were more quiet...no cheerleaders.

RabbitObsessed: You're pretty tough on the band and the fact that the placement of the band is leaving even less space available for students. In my student days, the band members were also students. Has that changed? (Consider that more rhetorical than actual.)

Here is my "girly" moment for the day... not a big fan of the grey uni's, they look like the whites got washed with the blacks... just kind of grungy.

Solid win tonight. Saw some good, saw some bad, but overall saw a team with the ability to make some noise on the national scene.

People have commented that Wolters, Dykstra, and Fiegen have played well so far while Carlson, White, and Prince have had shaky starts, but this seems reasonable that this would happen. The first 3 are essentially playing the same role as last year, while the latter 3 are adjusting their roles to pick up the slack left by the graduation of Griff. I confident they'll settle in sooner rather than later, and when they do, this team will be really scary.

Couldn't agree more. I'm not a huge fan of the black uniforms either. We sat with Bittle last year in Albuquerque and he said he loved them. I guess if the kids like the grey and black uniforms - whatever.

Call me traditional. I like white at home and blue on the road.

Hopefully the students wake up on visitor free throws. You're behind the basket for a reason. Make some noise. Jump around. Do something.

It was good to be back at Frost and enjoy another victory.

I don't blame the band. My roommate is in the pep band, so yes I am aware they are students.

Let's hope Nate doesn't ever have one of those "off games". Wouldn't be pretty.

                    Re: Tennessee State GDT

These first two games are some of the better teams the Jacks will see all year. I see some problems, they need to find someone other then Nate to bring up the ball, and even Nate has struggled from time to time in that area.

The big problem I've seen is the style of play allows for teams to stay in games, which is a product of being a jump shooting team, but I questioned why they didn't run more cuts in the second half like they did in the first. I'm sure some of it was Tennessee St. and their defense but that will have to be fixed, because the Jacks will be favored in most games, and when you keep underdogs in the game bad things happen. Especially on the road.

The black ones are the best jerseys and easily my favorite by far. They are nice and hope they were them against every big road game.

The grey ones actually looked nice as well and I liked them better than yellow jerseys if they had yellow jerseys.

                        My thoughts:

-We can't turn it over like that every night and expect to win. If we played like that on the road, we likely lose.
-We got a lot of calls last night. Not saying they weren't fouls, but we went to the line waaaay more than Tennessee State did.
-The gray unis aren't my favorite, but if the kids like 'em I will be OK.
-Tyler mentioned multiple times the students were rowdy. Jordan said postgame that he liked it. Fans seem to disagree. I like the students on the ends and I think it could make for a really exciting atmosphere come conference play. If students can't find a spot, it might be worth looking into vouchers to sit in the student section, with overflow going to general admission.

Tennessee State is pegged to finish 3rd/4th in the Ohio Valley Conference.

In a 12 team, two division OVC. Murray St. and last year's Atlantic Sun Conference champ, Belmont, picked 1 & 2. TnSt is likely 20 game winning team again this season.

Glad Jacks jumped out to the good start, and forced TSU into a "Hack-a-Shaq" foul fest to try to get back into the game. Fortunately, Jacks' "Shaq" was Prince, and he shot 70% on his 8 FT.

-YUou are correct. Too many turnovers-However many of those were after the press was beaten and the player may not have pulled the ball back out and the turnover was forcing the action when no real need to get into the traffic.
-We also had some questionable blocks that may have been easily called charges. Also, the Tenn St players may have been grabbing at Nate when he was on the way by resulting 10 free throws there. You add those to Taevaunn's 9 FT's late in game and it is not as lopsided as the numbers end.
-Unis, not a concern(but I thought the women's blue and yellow looked good)
-It would be nicer to have more room on the ends for students and student band. Bleachers look as though an older person designed for room rather than efficient for more bodies.

We did turn the ball over to many times in both games this year -- partly do to the athletic teams we played. Both Alabama and Tenn St are far more athletic and deeper than any conference team we will play this year.

Secondly, maybe just my non basketball knowledge observation but it seemed when Jordan Dykstra was out late in the game we really struggled to get the ball up court. He adds that big man that we can simply throw the ball up to at mid court. Plus, he can dribble the ball very well for a big man.

Excellent win last night. Just think if we could have hung on and beat'n Bama? Wins over Bama and Tenn ST would look pretty impressive.
